Background / History
Ancient Rivalry with the Lin Clan
The Wang Clan’s feud with the Lin Clan dates back to ancient times. It opposes the Lin Clan’s return to supremacy: the other orthodoxies had struggled to displace the Lin Clan as Archaic’s foremost imperial clan and did not want it ruling over them again 18 21.
Its alliance with the Luo Clan initially helped make retaliation against the Lin Clan seem manageable. Observers cited the Wang Clan’s backing when arguing that the Luo Clan need not fear killing the Lin Clan’s imperial scion, Lin Fan 9.
Lin Fan’s Recovery and Tribulation
Quasi-Emperor Wang Kun considered killing Lin Fan but abandoned the immediate risk after discovering the Immortal-Exterminating Curse corroding his cultivation. Believing Lin Fan crippled, he publicly exposed the curse and later mocked the possibility of removing it 10 11.
When a terrifying tribulation appeared over the Lin Clan, Wang Kun initially believed someone was becoming a Great Emperor. He called for an ancestor to emerge and opposed the breakthrough, citing an earlier incident in which the Lin Clan had injured a Wang Clan Great Emperor 16.
The tribulation instead belonged to Lin Fan. Wang Kun belittled his single core marking by comparing him with Wang Teng’s nine, only to watch Lin Fan produce ten. He then resolved to kill Lin Fan despite the rule prohibiting the older generation from attacking juniors 17 18.
During the tribulation, an unnamed Wang Clan Sage King feigned sorrow over Lin Fan’s apparent death. Ji Ningshuang froze and shattered him, destroying both body and soul. Wang Kun and Wang Jichang did not dare protest 20.
Assassination Attempt and Forced Gifts
Great Emperor Chiyan regarded Lin Fan as a future obstacle to Wang Teng’s path to immortality. After Wang Kun privately proposed a plan, Chiyan led Wang Clan experts and allied factions toward the Lin Clan under the pretext of offering congratulations 21 22.
Their delegation obstructed Lin Dong and Ji Ningshuang while a hidden Late Great Emperor deathsworn attacked Lin Fan. The Lin Clan’s Immortal Annihilation Formation intercepted the strike and killed the assassin. Lin Dong suspected the Wang Clan but could not establish the deathsworn’s origins; subsequent narration identifies the assassin as a Wang Clan loss 22 23 24.
Lin Fan then demanded the delegation’s congratulatory gifts, backed by the Lin Clan’s experts and formation. Wang Kun offered a Sacred Heart Fruit, which Lin Fan publicly rejected as inadequate. Chiyan surrendered two jin of black flame emperor stone before the delegation could leave 23 24.
Ancestor Virtue secretly followed the departing group. After sealing off the area, he ambushed and killed Chiyan. Reports of Chiyan’s disappearance enraged the Wang Clan and prompted several Great Emperors to leave seclusion, but the clan lacked evidence with which to accuse the Lin Clan openly 27 31.
Renewed Cooperation with the Luo Clan
Great Emperor Hongyun visited the Luo Clan to arrange another attempt on Lin Fan. He proposed using the younger generation and the Drunken Immortal Pavilion to test whether Lin Fan had a Dao protector, then attacking jointly if he did not. The Luo ancestors agreed to cooperate, and the parties settled on further undisclosed plans 30.
At the pavilion, Lin Fan killed Wang Song after being mocked by the imperial-clan prodigies. Wang Kunlong demanded that the pavilion master punish Lin Fan, but the master instead injured Kunlong for challenging his authority. The Wang Clan youths departed with threats to attack Lin Fan inside the Primordial Chaos Realm 34.
Primordial Chaos Realm Defeat
Inside the secret realm, Wang Bo challenged Lin Fan with his newly strengthened Gilded Sacred Body. Lin Fan defeated him with one punch, absorbed his physique’s origin, and killed him 35 36.
While receiving a White Tiger inheritance, Wang Kunlong supplied Wang Xun with the Blazing Fire Four-Directions Formation. He ordered Xun to join the Luo and Feng Clan prodigies in killing Lin Fan—or at least trapping him until Kunlong arrived. Their concealed ambush failed: Lin Fan absorbed its flames and subsequently killed the attackers 38 39 40 42.
Wang Kunlong and Luo Tianci also hunted Ji Kun, both because of his association with Lin Fan and for his Chaos Origin. Lin Fan intervened and confronted them. Although both opponents had reached the Purple Mansion Realm, they died fighting him while he remained in the Spirit Sea Realm 43 45 46 50.
Outside the realm, Hongyun and the Luo elders celebrated Lin Fan’s presumed death before receiving the opposite news: Lin Fan had survived, while every Wang and Luo Clan disciple sent into the realm had died 50.
