Background / History

Immortal Burial Valley

Su Yao introduces herself to Lin Wudao while traveling to Immortal Burial Valley, where she has been ordered by her master to recover a fragment of the Star Spirit-Guiding Formation Diagram. She identifies the Tianxuan Star Coffin as a likely lead and warns that the valley’s three fallen True Immortals have left behind a dangerous formation 15.

Working with Lin Wudao, she restrains a tomb-guarding Yin soldier and burns it with her whip’s flames. At the Tianxuan Star Coffin, she binds the guardian phantom’s wrist, allowing Lin Wudao to destroy its star disc and recover the second diagram fragment. The pair then confront Youmingzi’s Nine Nether Soul-Devouring Formation; Su Yao burns its resentful spirits and transforms her whip into a golden dragon to attack its chains 15 16.

When an ancient immortal corpse breaks free, her direct attacks fail to damage it. She instead restrains its arm, giving Lin Wudao the opening needed to press the formation diagram against its brow. After the battle, she stands between Lin Wudao and Tianxuzi, who demands the corpse’s memories. Back at Jade Void Palace, True Person Baixuan assigns her to guard Lin Wudao while he studies those memories 17 18.

Defense of Jade Void Palace

Su Yao intervenes when Yellow Springs Demon Sect death warriors ambush Lin Wudao. During the ensuing crisis, she binds the Fallen Immortal Ancient Demon’s arms with golden chains while the Holy Maiden suppresses its Demon Qi, enabling Lin Wudao to destroy its core 19.

As the conflict escalates, she fights the Yellow Springs Demon Sect and uses her blood to strengthen her whip against the enormous hand of the Demon-Sealing Abyss’s master. Lin Wudao cuts the whip free before sacrificing himself to restore the abyss’s seal. Believing him lost, Su Yao mourns him while holding the Chaos Sword he left behind 20 21 22.

Reports of a familiar figure within the Star Palace’s light prompt her to rush north. She reunites with Lin Wudao and joins him and the Holy Maiden against the returning Devil Master of High Antiquity 22 23.

Ancient Witch Clan Pursuit

Su Yao remains behind to reinforce the formation while Lin Wudao and the Holy Maiden investigate the theft of the Secret Canon of High Antiquity Restrictions. She later accompanies Lin Wudao in pursuing Ancient Witch Clan clues to an ancient battlefield, where they encounter twelve witch-poisoned tomb-guarding puppets 24 25.

The clan leader’s Nine Nether Dark Baleful Intent Formation injures her and takes control of her body through her whip, forcing her to attack Lin Wudao. During a brief lapse in its control, she urges him to use the Star Spirit-Guiding Formation Diagram. Lin Wudao eventually destroys the formation, freeing her and obtaining a Star Palace key fragment 26.

At Immortal Burial Valley, Su Yao uses a devil-suppressing jade talisman to help them advance through attacking deathly arms. When Lin Wudao breaks the shamans’ ritual sphere, she retrieves the sect-guarding treasures from their altar. She subsequently gives him an immortal-corpse chain fragment, which he uses to temporarily seal the abyss and trap the Devil Master 27 28.

Defeat of the Devil Master

After fighting the Ancient Witch Clan’s remnants alongside the Holy Maiden, Su Yao joins the attack on the Devil Master. She rescues Lin Wudao from a descending claw and accompanies him into the earth veins to sever the enemy’s connection to the Nether Demon Crystal 29 30.

Underground, she cuts one of the crystal’s nine blood-red chains. After Lin Wudao destroys the crystal and the Devil Master’s body, she catches the escaping remnant soul with her whip, allowing Lin Wudao to devour it 30.

Star Palace Trial

Su Yao refuses Lin Wudao’s offer to avoid the dangerous journey into the Star Palace. She and the Holy Maiden accompany him through its starlight defenses and witness records revealing the Ancient Witch Clan’s efforts to seize the palace through the Devil Master’s resurrection 31.

During the Illusory and Real Bewildering Formation trial, she tries to rouse Lin Wudao from his visions. Once he counters the formation, she binds the stellar chains while her companions attack, helping the group pass the trial. She remains beside him as he opens the bronze gate to the second level 32.

Personality

Su Yao is protective and outspoken when her companions or sect are threatened. She confronts Tianxuzi rather than surrender Lin Wudao to his demands, then guards Lin Wudao’s cultivation chamber day and night under Baixuan’s orders 18.

Her attachment to Lin Wudao is especially evident after his apparent sacrifice: she weeps at his disappearance, mourns with his sword in hand, and immediately pursues news of his survival. Later, she insists on sharing the dangers of the Star Palace rather than letting him go without her 21 22 31.

She also remains observant under pressure, identifying cursed guardians, corrosive mist, witch poison, and hostile formations before warning Lin Wudao of their effects 15 16 25 26.
