Klein and his allies thwarted Amon’s attack on Böklund Street while Emlyn’s pursuit of the Rose School of Thought led to a gathering and a Sanguine plan. Xio and Fors tracked Shermane as her life changed, ending with Viscount Stratford trapping Trissy and Klein secretly following Qonas Kilgor.

• Emlyn paid Ian to investigate outsiders from the Star Plateau and Paz Valley, while Cattleya recruited Sharif for the Future and saw that his spirit body had become conjoined twins.
• Klein posed as Dawn Dantès at a card game with Amyrius Rieveldt and Qonas Kilgor, won with four twos, and asked Qonas to find him a hunting manor.
• Emlyn lured Ernes Boyar to Harvest Church, where Ernes volunteered to stay for a month, while Klein and Audrey reviewed the operation and Klein noticed Amon approaching Böklund Street.
• Amon parasitized Hibbert’s family and servants, but Klein, Leonard, Pallez, and Will Auceptin disrupted him and removed his Worms of Time, and Audrey calmed the victims and arranged further care.
• Emlyn sacrificed most of his operation’s spoils to Mr. Fool and presented the remaining loot to the Tarot Club, while Bernadette met Klein and spoke of Roselle’s missing ninth mausoleum and a prophecy.
• Klein made charms and bullets using Worms of Time, while Leonard returned to Tingen, Cattleya secretly advanced to Sequence 4, and Derrick advanced to Sequence 5.
• Audrey received the Dreamwalker formula from Herabergen Rambis and joined Klein on a visit to the foundation, where they met Melissa Moretti, and Klein then asked Patrick Bryan to report before following a ritual order.
• Xio and Fors followed the cloaked woman and discovered she was Shermane, who had become a Witch and might be pregnant, and Trissy later bound Shermane in a warehouse, but Viscount Stratford trapped Trissy as Katarina Pelle appeared.
• Klein secretly followed Qonas Kilgor after Qonas left Megro Manor for the southern bank of the Tussock River.

Klein and his allies uncovered Viscount Stratford’s connection to King George III and captured Qonas Kilgor, whose testimony pointed to underground ruins and the king’s plans. As the investigation remained unresolved, Xio and Fors pursued their leads while Klein prepared to help Sharron and the Sanguine confront the Rose School of Thought.

• Fors and Xio rescued Shermane from Viscount Stratford, but she asked Xio to kill her before she lost control, and Stratford later revealed that Mason Diel had discovered the king’s secret and been executed.
• Klein ambushed Qonas Kilgor with Arianna’s help and learned that George III had ordered him to deliver materials to Number 1 Ruins beneath the Tussock River.
• Arianna and three archbishops investigated the ruins, where Prince Grove denied responsibility for the Great Smog and blamed the Demoness Sect, and Klein suspected the ruins might have been fabricated.
• Klein identified the verdigris cross as the Sequence 4 Unshadowed Crucifix, whose vision of a black-robed man ended with a powerful attack on Klein above the gray fog.
• At the Tarot Club, Klein revealed the king’s collusion with the Demoness Sect and Psychology Alchemists, while members shared leads on Herabergen Rambis, the second Blasphemy Slate, and other investigations.
• Sharron and Maric asked Klein to observe their operation with the Sanguine, who planned to trace the Rose School of Thought’s leadership and seize a sacred relic, and Klein agreed under conditions.
• Klein arranged for Danitz and Anderson to seek Vice Admiral Ailment and pursue Anderson’s advancement, while Trissy offered to cooperate against Katarina and then recoiled at Gehrman’s unsettling messenger.
• Xio told a Military Intelligence officer about Stratford but concealed her visit to the warehouse, and afterward she revealed that she had left out that detail to draw Gehrman Sparrow into the investigation.

Audrey and Klein survived Herabergen Rambis’s attempt to manipulate the Tarot Club, then Klein turned to Groselle’s Travels to investigate the past through dreams. The group entered the Sea of Collective Subconscious and found the ancient city of Liveseyd in a deep-sea pit.

• Audrey recognized Herabergen Rambis’s hypnosis, recovered her memories by praying to Mr. Fool, and warned the Tarot Club that he had ordered her to hypnotize Xio and Fors.
• Audrey used the Fate Siphon charm to gain control of Herabergen, but he discovered her deception and attacked before Gehrman Sparrow arrived to fight him.
• Klein made Herabergen his Marionette, learned that George III was pursuing power through the Blood Emperor’s ruins, and then let Arianna remove the mental imprint from Herabergen’s characteristic.
• Klein gave Audrey the Dreamwalker potion, and she joined Klein and Leonard to enter Groselle’s Travels and explore the dreams of Snowman, Mobett, Siatas, Longzel, and Groselle.
• Through the dreams, the group learned about the Angel Kings, the ancient races, the Zoroast and Abraham families, and routes to the Giant King’s Court, while Audrey obtained the Judge and Punisher Knight potion formulas.
• Klein, Audrey, and Leonard descended into the Sea of Collective Subconscious, weakened a giant phantom’s influence, and followed Klein’s divination to a deep-sea pit containing Liveseyd.

Klein’s explorations exposed a sealed presence beneath Ankewelt’s palace, while war erupted and he learned that George III was pursuing the Black Emperor’s apotheosis. Klein enlisted Bernadette to oppose the king and began preparing to target Katarina as the story turned toward Afternoon Town and a secluded island.

• Klein, Audrey, and Leonard explored Ankewelt’s palace, where murals traced the book’s history and a bronze door concealed a terrifying presence that drove them back above the gray fog.
• Klein warned Arrodes and the Evernight Church about the underground seal, while Fors received the Traveler formula and ingredients from Dorian and encountered Botis in Backlund.
• Derrick exchanged the Staff of Life for the Unshadowed Crucifix, and Klein used the Staff before limiting its exposure after it transformed his garden and unsettled his household.
• Klein recognized Medici inside Patrick’s summoned Spirit Guide, then saw Feysac airships bomb Backlund as Loen declared war.
• Klein confronted Medici, learned Zaratul had come to Backlund, and discovered that George III’s reforms were connected to the king’s plan to pursue the Black Emperor pathway.
• Klein hid in the East Borough, warned Sharron and Maric about Zaratul, and staged uncanny attacks on Yegor Einhorn’s fleet before abandoning the ship as a bizarre legend.
• Klein met Bernadette and explained George III’s plan to replace the original Black Emperor, and Bernadette agreed to help stop him while they exchanged ways to contact each other.
• Derrick left the City of Silver for Afternoon Town with the Unshadowed Crucifix, while Xio arranged money for her Judge characteristic and Danitz told Anderson about a secluded island.
