Background / History

Previous Life and Transmigration

Before arriving in Azeroth, Al was a seventy-year-old biology professor at a Project 985 university. His expertise led the university president to rehire him after each of three retirements. He was also an avid World of Warcraft player who died suddenly at his keyboard after disregarding medical warnings against staying up late 1.

He transmigrated into a young high elf belonging to Belovar Saronar’s family. Familiarity with Warcraft’s future initially frightened rather than reassured him: the coming wars and catastrophes made survival his immediate concern. Dissecting a mana spring lynx revealed how his system rewarded biological research, giving him a practical route toward becoming powerful enough to influence events 1.

Research and Reform in Quel’Thalas

Al’s mana wyrm research attracted Belovar’s attention and revealed that teaching could generate rewards from his students. His subsequent inventions impressed the Silvermoon Council and Anasterian, who appointed him an honorary councilor when he was seven. Three years later, he had become a fifth-circle mage and accepted a short teaching appointment at Falthrien Academy after previously rejecting its invitation four times 1 2 4.

At Whispering Pond, Al presented Ayou breeding as a public economic project. He offered ordinary people the knowledge needed to raise the animals, while reserving leather purchases for the Salona Family and alchemical equipment sales for the Sunstrider royal family. His cooking demonstration challenged elven disgust toward pork, while a Flamestrike test showcased the hide’s magical resistance 7 8.

Over the following five years, Ayou husbandry enriched commoners and supplied inexpensive magic-resistant equipment to the royal family. Al also donated Franky’s construction blueprints and helped develop the Arcane Guardian and Arcane Annihilator. His activities extended to the frontier, where he aided the Farstriders against Troll incursions and captured Akil’zon alive 9.

Reports celebrated his survival of thirty-six assassination attempts, although Kaynell later admitted exaggerating reports of such attacks 9 38.

Sargeras and Aluneth

During the confrontation between Aegwynn and Sargeras, Al was struck by Finger of Death and lost the lower half of his body. He escaped through Cross-Realm Teleportation, unknowingly taking Aluneth with him. Belovar’s protective robe was destroyed in the encounter 10 11.

Al cut away at the damaged wound until Limb Regeneration activated and restored his missing body. He then claimed a teaching reward from Sargeras’s avatar, enduring a near-fatal arcane overload rather than allowing Aluneth to take part of the energy 11 12.

After recovering, Al used his new Telekinesis and Mystic Eyes of Death Perception to capture and defeat Aluneth. The silenced staff transformed into Freedom’s Protector 12.

Un’Goro Crater and the Titan Ruins

In Un’Goro Crater, Al collected specimens with Hemet and established a bio-alchemy workshop at Marshal’s Refuge. His Jinkela potion made Bloodpetals docile and enabled them to release valuable spellcasting gas safely, creating substantial demand among the camp’s adventurers 14 15 16.

Hemet’s account of losing his companions to Mosh changed Al’s attitude toward the world’s inhabitants. He committed to helping his friend seek revenge, and their investigation led to Titan crystals, a stone guardian, and Nablya. Before entering dormancy, Nablya entrusted her remaining crystals to Al and urged him to protect the world 18 19 20 23.

Al later defeated a flame lord on Fire Plume Ridge and explored a Titan forge. When his body approached collapse, Khaz’goroth intervened, incorporated the crystals’ powers into him, and imposed a seal to prevent excessively rapid growth. Al awoke unaware of the full intervention, discovering only the missing crystals and a hammer marking on his back 27 29 30.

Using his new earth power, Al awakened Hemet’s ancestral strength. When Hemet subsequently exhausted his life fighting Mosh, Al revived him with a Titan-forged core and almost all his available divine earth power. He later used Mosh’s remains and a self-recharging crystal as the basis for Type Zero 30 31 32 33.

Dalaran Symposium and Tournament

Kael’thas invited Al to a Dalaran academic symposium. Belovar explained that political interests surrounding Bloodpetals and the Jinkela formulas lay behind the event, but encouraged Al to attend without submitting to those interests 34 36.

Upon arrival, Al discovered advertisements bearing his portrait and a large following he had not knowingly organized. Hundreds of black-robed mages knelt and called him “Godfather,” while Antonidas interpreted the display as evidence of a carefully cultivated power base 41 42.

Antonidas used the symposium to challenge the Quel’dorei and press Al to share his research, offering Kirin Tor membership in exchange. During the tournament preparations, Al welcomed the injured and humiliated Kaynell onto his team. After Kaynell’s 2v2 match, Al praised his courage, ordered him to rest, and arranged for a priest to treat him 43 44 46 50.

Appearance

  • Youthful build: Initially a chubby, short-legged elf child; at ten, he is described as short and stocky beside the three-meter-tall Franky 1 2.
  • Golden hair and pale skin: His youthful face is repeatedly described as delicately handsome, with smooth, pale skin 11 12 29.
  • Changed eyes: Originally emerald-eyed; after reaching 40% brain development, his eyes become crystalline blue with occasional pale-violet glimmers 12.
  • Laboratory clothing: Wears an exaggerated white mage robe resembling a lab coat 2.
  • Trained physique: His torn robe exposes firm muscles developed through years of training under Salorian 29.
  • Hammer marking: Bears a pale-green Hammer of Khaz’goroth tattoo on his back following the Titan forge incident 29 30.

Personality

Al approaches magic and monsters with a professor’s investigative habits. He records experiments, dissects specimens, and becomes openly enthusiastic about creatures others find filthy or dangerous. His delight in a tar beast king leads him straight into a tar pit without concern for the grime 1 14.

His irreverence frequently undercuts his scholarly image. He teases his grandfather, mentally assigns mocking nicknames to powerful figures, and complains when random rewards give a mage more physical strength. His treatment of Hemet can also be careless: one low-altitude flight leaves the dwarf’s head repeatedly striking the terrain 1 9 18.

Beneath that behavior, Al is determined to avert Quel’Thalas’s tragic future. He respects educators such as Faselyn and treats Dath’Remar’s legacy with unusual solemnity. His economic projects combine public instruction with carefully retained commercial advantages 4 5 7.

Hemet’s grief forces Al to stop viewing Azeroth as a game populated by minor characters. Their friendship brings out genuine compassion, later reflected in his desperation to revive Hemet and his support for Kaynell after humiliation and injury 19 32 46 50.

Abilities & Skills

Monster Compendium and Teaching Rewards

Al’s system turns biological investigation into personal advancement and teaching resources 1.

  • Activating creature entries can grant attributes, skills, brain development, technical knowledge, and consumable teaching material 1 11.
  • Teaching permits a draw for a student’s skill or 10% of a random primary attribute 1.
  • Large audiences greatly expand the pool of eligible targets, but commoners’ combined rewards can be less valuable than a powerful individual’s 9.
  • Sudden attribute gains can overload his body, as demonstrated after the Ayou lecture and the Sargeras reward 9 12.

Hyperthymesia

A legendary memory ability that precisely reproduces everything experienced through Al’s five senses inside a memory palace 2.

  • Stores highly detailed, retrievable three-dimensional sensory records 2.
  • Accelerates research and study; he estimates mastering an advanced abjuration textbook in under half a month 3.
  • Allows extensive analysis while very little external time passes 3.
  • Develops into freely usable bullet time, though successful evasion still depends on his body keeping pace 27.
  • Cannot record events while he is unconscious 30.

Spellcasting

Al combines arcane, fire, frost, spatial, and control magic rather than relying on a single school 3 8 12.

  • Combat and defense: Uses Frost Nova, Polymorph, Blink, Ice Block, Blizzard, Pyroblast, and Arcane Blast; his Blizzard covers a five-hundred-meter radius during an assassin attack 3 12.
  • Spell amplification: Combines Rune of Power, Arcane Power, Icy Veins, and the Skull of Hex before attacking Aluneth 12.
  • Spatial and temporal magic: Uses Cross-Realm Teleportation for long-distance travel and Alter Time during the Ayou leather demonstration 8 10.
  • Crowd control: Employs Charm Person, Silence Field, elemental binding, and a sound-based spell capable of causing severe injury at full strength 7 14 16.
  • Coordinate dependence: An attempted teleport to Ratchet instead takes him to Razorfen; he cannot determine whether his skill or the ancient coordinates caused the error 20.

Telekinesis

Unlocked at 40% brain development, Telekinesis responds like an additional hand without Mage Hand’s casting delay 12 14.

  • Captures creatures and retrieves the fleeing Aluneth 12 14.
  • Controls a greatsword precisely enough to carve a workshop into a rock face 15.
  • Slows the falling Type Zero enough to prevent a worse disaster, but the effort exhausts him and does not prevent building damage 34.

Mystic Eyes of Death Perception

These eyes reveal weaknesses in living beings, inorganic objects, and supernatural entities; the ability is described as potentially applicable even to gods 12.

  • Identifies a vulnerable gem on Aluneth’s shaft 12.
  • Allows Al to direct repeated Arcane Blasts at that weakness until Aluneth falls silent 12.

Regeneration and Physical Abilities

Repeated attribute draws give Al a physique far beyond that of an ordinary mage, while enhanced Troll Regeneration enables recovery from catastrophic injury 9 11.

  • Regrows his entire lower body after Sargeras’s attack 11.
  • The regeneration leaves him temporarily unable to move; a pill restores his strength afterward 11.
  • Uses High-Level Stealth, obtained from Sanguinar, during his capture of Akil’zon 9 11.
  • Uses Super Smell, acquired through Ayou research, to distinguish scents and locate a cave 20.

Partial Elementalization

A self-developed technique derived from research into summoning water elementals 27.

  • Converts part of his body into water or ice elements 27.
  • Uses an elementalized arm to extract a flame lord’s core 27.
  • Later suffers dangerous simultaneous water-and-fire elementalization, requiring Khaz’goroth’s intervention to prevent bodily collapse 29.

Divine Earth Power

Khaz’goroth’s power gives Al control over earth and an affinity for studying Titan-forged creations 30.

  • Reshapes terrain, sinks ground, and raises an earthen wall three or four meters high 30.
  • Awakens Hemet’s earthen ancestry, enabling a stone-skinned giant form and Avatar 30.
  • Recovers naturally after expenditure 30.
  • Can revive Hemet when combined with a Titan-forged core, though doing so consumes nearly all Al’s available earth power 32.
  • Remains restricted by a seal on his earth divinity 30.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Freedom’s Protector — Legendary staff formed after Aluneth’s defeat. Its demonstrated affixes include instant mass slow, Power Infusion, and Multicast 12 21.
  • Belovar’s Blessing — A protective robe given by his grandfather before his journey. Destroyed during the Sargeras encounter 11.
  • Sunscorch — Dagger used to cut into his damaged wound before Limb Regeneration activates 11.

Relationships

  • Belovar Saronar — Grandfather, protector, and one of Al’s principal teaching-reward sources. Encourages his research and urges him to face Dalaran’s politics on his own terms 1 9 11 36.
  • Anasterian Sunstrider — Royal patron and repeated student. Appoints Al an honorary councilor and promises that Quel’Thalas will support him, including reserving the future council speakership for him 2 9.
  • Hemet — First close friend and follower in Azeroth; regarded by Al as both subordinate and brother. Their shared pursuit of Mosh culminates in Hemet’s death and Al’s successful effort to revive him 19 30 32.
  • Kael’thas Sunstrider — Student and admirer who embraces Al’s published socialist ideals, invites him to Dalaran, and helps organize his reception there 25 34 39 42.
  • Kaynell Sunfire — Formerly seeks Al’s favor through publicity; later becomes a committed follower. Al gives him a place on the tournament team and recognizes his courage after the 2v2 match 4 38 46 50.
  • Salorian Dawnseeker — Physical trainer and teaching-reward source. Al’s muscular development is attributed to years of training under him 9 29.
  • Nablya — Titan Keeper who entrusts Al with her remaining crystals and the hope that he will help protect the world 23.
  • Khaz’goroth — Intervenes to save Al from bodily collapse, grants divine power, and seals part of that power to restrain his growth 29 30.
  • Aluneth — Initially follows Al out of curiosity, then attempts to take his overflowing arcane energy. Al defeats it and receives Freedom’s Protector from its transformed staff 10 11 12.
  • Antonidas — Political and academic rival who seeks access to Al’s research and mistakenly interprets his unexpected following as deliberate maneuvering 41 42 44.
  • Brotherhood of Al — Followers who regard him as their spiritual mentor. The organization forms while Al is away in Kalimdor, and its public devotion surprises him in Dalaran 26 41 42.
