Background / History
Before His Summoning
Xiang Yu is introduced as a late-Qin politician and military strategist, the grandson of Chu general Xiang Yan. Although unsuccessful in his early studies of writing and swordsmanship, he aspired to overthrow Qin. In 209 BCE, he followed Xiang Liang in raising troops at Kuaiji in response to Chen Sheng and Wu Guang’s uprising 179.
During the campaign to relieve Zhao, Xiang Yu killed Song Yi after the commander halted the army at Anyang. He then led the relief of Julu, breaking the cooking pots and sinking the boats before defeating Qin’s main army. After accepting Zhang Han’s surrender, he buried 200,000 Qin soldiers alive and entered Guanzhong. He failed to kill Liu Bang at the Hongmen Banquet, then massacred Xianyang, killed Qin king Ziying, burned the palaces, and seized their treasures 179.
In 206 BCE, he divided territories among the lords and proclaimed himself Hegemon-King of Western Chu, ruling from Pengcheng. Internal conflicts and poor strategic decisions undermined his early victories against Liu Bang. Eventually surrounded at Gaixia, he broke out to the Wu River and killed himself 179.
Summoning into Ye Changge’s Service
Ye Changge summons Xiang Yu at First City and immediately appoints him grand marshal of the three armies, charging him with expanding human territory. Xiang Yu accepts and takes command of 100,000 White Horse Volunteers. Ye Changge regards his arrival as a decisive advantage for the Human Race’s campaigns along the Immortal Road 179.
Appearance
Xiang Yu arrives through a spatial rift wearing a black coat decorated with fur pompoms and carrying the Heaven-Breaking War Halberd. Despite his overwhelming presence, the narration describes the coat as looking comical when he stands before the White Horse Volunteers 179.
- Build: Later described as towering, with the presence of an unshakable mountain 677.
- Overlord Bloodline manifestation: Golden flames envelop his body when he unleashes the bloodline fully 1140.
- Overlord Armor: Appears when he partially awakens the Overlord Divine Body 789.
- Cauldron combat manifestation: During his talisman-enhanced battle, he has blood-red eyes, blood-colored astral winds, and a cauldron blazing with blood-gold patterns 1635.
Personality
Xiang Yu is proud, confrontational, and eager to face powerful opponents. He routinely mocks enemies and treats dangerous battles as opportunities to surpass himself. Even while struggling against two veteran Origin Gods, he refuses his allies’ help and insists that the fight belongs to him 615 782 783.
His arrogance is paired with fierce commitment to the Human Race. He rejects the idea that humans should submit to other races and believes that, as an army commander, he cannot fall or expose weakness before the enemy. His victory speeches emphasize conquest for his soldiers’ glory and homeland 524 525 615.
He can also adapt rather than relying solely on force. When direct clashes fail against Liu Yun Tian and Bai Shan, he changes his footwork and attack angles, wears down their defenses, and exploits a brief opening. His treatment of defeated enemies varies: he rejects the Eighth City lord’s surrender, but later offers to spare a Demon Race woman if she puts down her weapon 188 640 783.
Abilities & Skills
Overlord’s Power and Innate Seals
Xiang Yu possesses Overlord’s Power restrained by seals present in his body from birth. Breaking the second seal dramatically increases his ability to fight above his cultivation realm 194.
- Offense: Channels the power into halberd strikes, palm imprints, and cauldron attacks 616 1635.
- Defense: Forms a golden shield against the Devil Qilin’s Sword Qi 621.
- Limitation: His power does not erase every realm disparity. Feng Haotian’s twenty-third-level Wind Momentum injures him before the second seal breaks 194.
Overlord Bloodline and Divine Body
The Overlord Bloodline supports his exceptional combat strength, while the Overlord Divine Body grows stronger through continued fighting. Ye Changge identifies the constitution as one of the strongest in the heavens and especially suited to life-risking combat 187 789.
- Bloodline release: Reinforces major attacks, including his clash with the White Stone Race’s tenth elder 616.
- Overlord Armor: Manifests through a partial awakening of the Divine Body 789.
- Explosion resistance: Together with the army soul of ten million soldiers, the armor allows him to withstand Liu Qi’s self-detonation 789.
- Limitation: The awakening against Liu Qi releases only a tiny fraction of the constitution’s might 789.
Halberd Arts
Xiang Yu uses several named Overlord halberd techniques and battle arts. His Overlord Battle Art is later described as universe-grade, mastered through years of life-and-death combat 1027.
| Art / Technique | Demonstrated use |
|---|---|
| Overlord’s Eighteen Halberd Strikes | Its first strike manifests an Overlord Dragon that fights Feng Haotian’s tornado to a stalemate 194. |
| Hegemon Sheds His Armor | Uses a sudden change of position to pierce the Fire Qilin’s defenses and strike its vitals 524. |
| Overlord Splits the Heavens | Cracks the Fire Qilin manifested by the Qilin Five Elements Array 524. |
| Heaven-Breaking Halberd Strike | Concentrates his strength against the tenth elder’s petrification-infused fist 617. |
| Overlord Breaks the Army | Shatters the Devil Qilin’s shield and badly wounds him 621. |
| Overlord Battle Art, second–fourth forms | Breaks vines, destroys a summoned forest, and damages the green-clad Tree Clan warrior’s protective barrier 757. |
| Overlord Raging Waves | Delivers a descending blow against Liu Yun Tian and Bai Shan 783. |
| Overlord Eight Forms, third form | Produces numerous halberd shadows to expose an opening in two opponents’ defenses 783. |
| Overlord Eight Forms, fourth form: Break the Wind and Rend the Sky | Launches a fast, rending attack against Liu Yun Tian 784. |
| Overlord Eight Forms, seventh form | Overpowers Liu Yun Tian and Bai Shan 784. |
| Overlord Returns to Heaven | Final form of the Overlord Eight Forms; turns the halberd into a gigantic golden dragon carrying his strength and conviction 784. |
| Unified fusion of the Overlord Eight Forms | Pierces the golden ancient tree at the forest core 786. |
| Heaven-Revolving strike | Kills two black figures during the battle before the Human Emperor Universe 993. |
| Overlord Halberd Art, second form: Forward | Summons a golden Overlord phantom that sends a giant “Forward” character toward the King of Qiongqi’s sword 1027. |
Overlord Origin and God-Defying Art
After becoming an Origin God, Xiang Yu uses Overlord Origin for protection and offense. He also employs the God-Defying Art to counter opponents with higher cultivation 777 782.
- Origin defenses: Creates a black shield against Bai Shu and a golden, armor-like covering against Liu Yun Tian 777 782.
- Cultivation suppression: While pushing the God-Defying Art to its limit, suppresses Liu Yun Tian’s presence to Origin God first-layer peak 782.
- Limitation: Veteran Origin Gods retain vast, pure reserves of Origin, making them difficult to overcome even under suppression 783.
Spatial Techniques and Battlefield Judgment
Xiang Yu combines an understanding of the Law of Space with precise identification of weaknesses 524 615.
- Evades gravity-based restraints and tears apart an Indestructible Fifth Layer elder’s Gravity Cage using spatial power and lightning 615.
- Finds the flaw in the Qilin Five Elements Array and destroys its manifested Fire Qilin through the heart 524.
- Detects a brief fluctuation in the connection between a Tree Clan ancestor and his golden tree, then targets it with a soul-infused halberd attack 785.
Army Soul and Command
Xiang Yu leads forces ranging from his initial 100,000 White Horse Volunteers to a hundred-million-strong invasion army 179 610.
- Draws upon the army soul of ten million troops to reinforce his attacks 290.
- Combines the Black Armor Army’s battle intent with his Overlord Bloodline against the White Stone Race’s tenth elder 616.
- Limitation: When his army is routed during the Xuanwu campaign, its ability to support further fighting collapses 290.
Cauldron Techniques and Close Combat
In the Extreme Ice conflict, Xiang Yu fights with an enormous cauldron and excels at close-range combat 1633 1635.
- Cauldron Suppresses Heaven and Earth: Produces a vast purple cauldron and a purple-gold barrier of domineering runes 1633.
- Overlord Suppresses the World: Extinguishes Xiao Tiance’s extinction cold flame 1635.
- Ten Thousand Cauldrons Return to One: Breaks Heaven-Imprisoning Ice and strikes Xiao Tiance hard enough to damage his invincible origin 1636.
- Hegemon Emperor Fist: Counters a close-range ambush; he also crushes an ice blade barehanded and follows with a powerful kick 1635.
