Mo Beiyuan trembled, unable to speak, his eyes rimmed red.
But true qi had already gathered in Yun Rui's hands again, striking straight toward Mo Beiyuan's chest.
Qing Yi stepped forward to shield him with his body.
Mo Beiyuan raised a hand and swept Qing Yi aside, turned to evade Yun Rui's attack, then swiftly stepped forward and sealed Yun Rui's acupoints.
He looked at Yun Rui's furious little face.
Nervousness filled Mo Beiyuan's blue eyes, and his voice held caution and irrepressible joy. "You... child, what's your name? Where's your mother?"
Yun Rui gave a soft huff and turned his head away, his eyes full of frustration.
He had miscalculated.
That faithless man had outwitted him.
Now he was done for!
Mo Beiyuan's hands had never once trembled when holding a sword, yet now, as he raised a hand to touch Yun Rui's face, it shook uncontrollably.
"Don't touch me, you faithless man! Let me go! We'll fight again!"
Mo Beiyuan's blue eyes glistened with tears and joy as he covered them with his palm.
A low laugh escaped him, and with reddened eyes, he pulled Yun Rui tightly into his arms.
"Child, Daddy came too late. I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
Yun Rui's eyes were filled with mockery. A faithless man putting on an act of deep devotion?
All the hidden guards in the residence fell silent, faint tears glimmering in their eyes. Their prince's household finally had an heir!
Mo Beiyuan carried Yun Rui into the courtyard. Looking at the child, who still resembled an angry little bun, his lips slowly curved into a delighted smile.
"Be good, baby. Daddy will unseal your acupoints. Daddy won't hurt you."
Qing Yi and the hidden guards in the trees all twitched at the corners of their eyes and shuddered. Was this still their prince?
Where had His Highness learned such a cloying word as "baby"?
Mo Beiyuan unsealed Yun Rui's acupoints.
Looking at Mo Beiyuan's reddened blue eyes, Yun Rui felt that things seemed a little different from what he had expected.
"Baby, what's your name? Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
Conflicting feelings flashed through Yun Rui's violet eyes. He regretted what he had done today; it really had been too immature.
His gaze swept casually over the courtyard and the trees, and a disdainful scoff came from his childish voice.
"You'd better let me leave now. Otherwise, if my mother comes looking for me, all those hidden guards in your trees and on your roof, and you too, will die!"
Everyone was shocked. Mo Beiyuan raised his brows, surprise flashing across his face before admiration and amusement surfaced in his eyes.
"You're outstanding."
Counting from that encounter, he was not even four yet.
Such a young child had considerable martial skills, and his keen powers of observation were excellent as well. Clearly, whoever had trained him was extraordinary.
He thought of that violet-eyed woman. Over the years, he had often seen those violet eyes clearly in his dreams, yet he could never make out her full face. Would she come?
Before he could gather his thoughts,
a powerful force blasted the main gate open.
Mo Beiyuan hurriedly shielded Yun Rui behind him and looked toward the hole in the gate, somehow feeling that it looked familiar.
His gaze shifted to the woman striding through the entrance. She wore white robes on which pale lotuses shimmered faintly. Before he could see her features clearly, her cool, slightly angry voice rang out.
"You dared to take my son? You're courting death!"
A powerful force shot out from her. The hidden guards in the trees had no chance to dodge before they were swept off the branches and slammed hard into the ground.
A dagger gleamed coldly in Yun Manman's hand before she hurled it straight at a hidden guard on the roof who was about to strike.
Mo Beiyuan immediately leaped into the air and caught the flying dagger, his brows furrowing slightly. What an overbearing force.
Yun Manman shot forward, and the lotus between her fingers instantly flew out.
Thinking it was some kind of concealed weapon, Mo Beiyuan unleashed his internal energy to block it, only to discover that it scattered.
Yun Manman was already upon him. Both their hands carried tremendous force, and in the blink of an eye, they had exchanged dozens of moves.
Everyone in the prince's residence watched in shock.
Someone could actually last this long against His Highness.
She even seemed to be gaining the upper hand.
And she was a woman!!!
Spotting Yun Rui, Yun Manman unleashed another blast of true qi, then swiftly flew toward him and gathered him into her arms.
Admiration filled Yun Rui's eyes. Mother was amazing! No wonder she was his pride!
Admiration in his blue eyes, Mo Beiyuan slowly landed on the ground and looked at those violet eyes before him, so familiar from his dreams.
Those familiar violet eyes were like a shattered river of stars, holding a touch of indifference and languor. Her beauty was morning clouds reflected on snow, her crimson lips catching the sun; her skin was luminous as ice, her exquisite grace unmatched. She was as otherworldly as a fairy from the nine heavens, yet made one want to draw closer all the more.
Mo Beiyuan suddenly clenched his hands, feeling his heart pound in his throat. Was this the person he dreamed of day and night?
She had appeared in his dreams for five years. He knew that during those years, he had developed different feelings for her.
He had never given up searching for her, but there had been no news at all. No matter what he did, he could not find her.
Now that she stood before him in the flesh, he felt his heart race beyond his control.
After all these years, she had long since made her home in his heart.
Once, he had been a young general of dazzling talent. Now, he was the Prince of the Northern Garrison, commanding five hundred thousand soldiers of the Black Flame Army.
He was the presence on the battlefield whose very name struck terror into other nations.
Yet before this woman,
for the first time,
he felt somewhat unsure of himself.
He spent his years fighting on battlefields, his hands covered in blood, while she possessed beauty that could topple cities, otherworldly grace, and peerless martial skills. Could someone like him truly draw close to her?
Only after looking Yun Rui over and finding him uninjured did Yun Manman raise her eyes toward the man who had exchanged blows with her.
He wore a moon-white robe, a belt patterned with four-clawed dragons outlining his lean, powerful waist. With swordlike brows and star-bright eyes, he was heroic, noble, and effortlessly graceful. His lake-blue eyes held complex emotions Yun Manman could not understand.
Yun Manman could not help raising her brows. His martial skills were excellent. Those blue eyes, that similar face-no wonder they had driven the levelheaded Yun Rui to leave on impulse.
It seemed Heaven was going to stir up trouble for her again!
"Yun Rui, come home with Mother."
With that, Yun Manman took Yun Rui's hand and made to leave.
Mo Beiyuan stepped in front of Yun Manman with a nervous expression, blocking her path.
Yun Manman raised her indifferent, distant violet eyes, her voice cold and detached.
"Move."
Mo Beiyuan clenched his hands tightly at his sides. Looking at the coldness and distance in those violet eyes, he momentarily did not know how to begin.
But Yun Manman had already run out of patience.
"What do you want?"
Then Yun Manman heard an aggrieved, accusing voice complain,
"You're going to just walk away again?"
Yun Manman was slightly taken aback, her eyes full of confusion.
What was he talking about?
Did they know each other that well?
Mo Beiyuan coughed lightly. Since being forceful would not work, he would take another path. He raised his blue eyes, filling them with hurt, his voice still aggrieved and accusing.
"You were the one who forced yourself on me back then. After having me, you left without a word and gave birth to our child without telling me. Don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
Yun Rui's violet eyes widened in shock. This... after all that, his mother was the faithless one!
Yun Rui grew a little flustered. Had he done something bad?
He had pushed his faithless mother right in front of her victim. Would Mother beat him to death?
Qing Yi blinked and shifted his stiff body. This... was this the woman from that cave back then?
And who was this man in white?
His Highness would never say such things. Had someone possessed him?
Mo Beiyuan's expression gradually softened as he looked gently at Yun Rui's ever-changing expression, his eyes filled with undisguised joy and delight.
Yun Manman frowned slightly, displeasure on her face. She stepped forward to shield Yun Rui behind her, her violet eyes icy as she said in earnest,
"If you dare set your sights on my child, I won't mind killing you right now!"
