Nezha's Lotus Root Incarnation was reshaped by Tathagata after his conflict with his father, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King Li Jing. Although the physical grievance was resolved, resentment remained within him; Li Jing's pagoda served as a restraint and reminder of the Buddha's intervention 123.

The residual resentment later manifests physically after Nezha is duplicated through Grand Supreme Elder Lao's furnace. One manifestation protects Li Jing and claims to have let go of the past, while the other embodies Nezha's hatred and seeks to kill him 123. Zhuang Yan frames the split as an opportunity for Nezha to overcome his mental barriers, then captures and refines the evil manifestation 123 124.
