Arc 19The Chessboard of Karazhan

Jiang Jie and his companions explored Karazhan, witnessed Aegwynn’s battle with Sargeras, and were drawn into a First War chessboard where Jiang Jie fought Grom and Orgrim. After the chessboard collapsed, Jiang Jie left Karazhan to answer Queen Calia’s call about the Syndicate’s attacks on Hillsbrad.

  • Sargeras sent a demon armed with Andonisus to attack Jiang Jie, Anveena, and Med’an, but Aegwynn struck down Sargeras’s avatar and restored the Chicken Leg Staff’s shaft from its fragments.
  • Jiang Jie offered Med’an the staff and led the group deeper into Karazhan, where they fought Spell Shades, Ethereals, and Netherspite before entering Medivh’s First War chessboard.
  • The chessboard placed Jiang Jie in Lothar’s role during the Orc siege of Stormwind, and he chose to leave the city’s defense to seek Orgrim while Reginald protected Prince Varian.
  • Jiang Jie’s disguised group infiltrated Orgrim’s camp, where Gul’dan exposed them and Grom fought Jiang Jie in Mak’gora, and Jiang Jie regained his Chi when his original body arrived and defeated Grom without killing him.
  • Jiang Jie challenged Orgrim, but Garona intervened and killed Orgrim as Gul’dan killed Kilrogg and claimed the Warchief’s authority, and Jiang Jie and his companions destroyed the chessboard’s spell nodes and escaped its collapse.
  • Aegwynn reclaimed the Chicken Leg Staff for Med’an and promised to pursue Kel’Thuzad, while Jiang Jie collected Medivh’s chest and left Karazhan after Queen Calia summoned him to confront the Syndicate’s attacks on Hillsbrad.

Meryl used the Song of Aegwynn and a powerful spell to find Medivh’s vision of Aegwynn’s battle with Sargeras, bringing the group to a dangerous, lifelike Northrend scene. Jiang Jie saw demons hunting dragons and discovered Aegwynn standing nearby, as the vision’s events began to unfold.

  • Meryl cast a spell to locate Medivh’s vision of Aegwynn fighting Sargeras, using the Song of Aegwynn as its medium.

At the same time, the Chicken Leg Staff fragments Jiang Jie carried resonated with Atiesh, and Sargeras summoned a demon armed with the legendary swords Andonisus to attack Jiang Jie and his companions.

  • Aegwynn began an unprecedented spell to fight Sargeras’s avatar, but Aluneth shut herself away and refused to help.

  • Anveena joined Jiang Jie, who defeated the incomplete Atiesh with Strom’kar, but the two divine swords vanished with the demon.
  • Aegwynn struck Sargeras’s avatar with the Chicken Leg Staff, causing it to fall, and then used magic to reassemble the staff’s forty-one fragments.

Meanwhile, Jiang Jie and his companions weighed how to confront Orgrim’s elite Orc camp and feared Medivh’s plan had gone wrong.

  • A white-haired woman evaded Dalaran’s magical surveillance, broke into Karazhan, and passed through its defenses without resistance.
  • She restored Karazhan’s rooms and library as she climbed, then found the Shade of Sargeras in a hidden library and prepared to destroy its contingency.
