Background and History

Origins and Survival

The Ice Dragon King was the youngest of the Dragon God’s nine children, privately calling the Dragon God “Dad” and being treated like a daughter. Much of that long life was spent cultivating under the Dragon God’s support 55 56.

After death, the Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King survived as dragon souls associated with the bones beneath the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Their perception remained powerful, but they could not leave the well before becoming attached to Xuan Ming 55 92.

Choosing Xuan Ming

The two dragon souls took up residence in the twin Black Dragons on Xuan Ming’s back. The Ice Dragon King initially presented their situation as a heavenly inheritance awaiting a fated successor. Concern over Xuan Ming’s relentless cultivation soon led to more direct involvement: the two kings used ice and fire power to temper his soul 55 56.

After hearing about his difficult childhood, the Ice Dragon King wanted him to use a familial form of address. Xuan Ming refused “Mom” but eventually accepted “Big Sister,” establishing the bond that defined their relationship for much of the story 55 56.

That bond nearly broke during their journey through the Star Dou Great Forest. Xuan Ming suspected that affection was being used to conceal a scheme. The Ice Dragon King admitted hoping to help him become a god so that he would later assist the dragons, and acknowledged saving Ah Rou and Xiao Wu partly as prospective Soul Rings for him. Xuan Ming agreed to help on the condition that the deception stop 58 59.

Securing the Dragon Clan’s Future

The Ice Dragon King deliberately revealed dragon power during the confrontation with Bibi Dong to test the Divine Realm’s response. The stated reasoning was that discovery early in Xuan Ming’s development was safer than having the dragon souls exposed only when he approached godhood 59.

Later, the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings defended their choice of successor before the Silver Dragon King and Di Tian. The Ice Dragon King’s immediate objective was for Xuan Ming to help the Silver Dragon King obtain the Golden Dragon King’s power, rather than demand that he solve the Soul Beast Clan’s entire predicament alone. With their remaining consciousness expected to disappear within a thousand years, waiting indefinitely was not an option 156.

The Ice Dragon King also proposed a possible romantic bond between Xuan Ming and the Silver Dragon King as a safeguard aligning their interests. This was presented as an option, not a demand that the Silver Dragon King force herself to feel affection 156.

Sacrifice and Resurrection

While Xuan Ming absorbed the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King’s Soul Ring, both Dragon Kings poured their bone energy into his forming Torso Soul Bone and burned their soul essences. Their sacrifice completed the Million-Year Abyss Dragon Emperor Torso Bone and transformed his Black Dragon Martial Soul. The Ice Dragon King embraced him as the remaining presence faded, explaining that the sacrifice was meant to finish paving his path 252.

Reviving the Ice Dragon King subsequently became one of Xuan Ming’s reasons for pursuing power beyond an ordinary First-Level God. He ultimately fulfilled that goal together with Gu Yuena: their combined powers restored both Dragon Kings and elevated them directly to the God King Realm 319 320 329.

Life After Resurrection

After returning, the Ice Dragon King took Xuan Ming away from a gathering of newly ascended goddesses so he could rest, leaving Gu Yuena to manage the confrontation. Subsequent conversations addressed Qian Renxue’s attachment to him, the consequences of having children, and his reluctance to accept a formal Godhood despite already serving as the Divine Realm’s central authority 331 332 333 347.

The relationship with Xuan Ming eventually became explicitly romantic. The Ice Dragon King confessed a desire to be accepted as his lover rather than remain permanently outside that part of his life as an elder sister. Xuan Ming agreed, while insisting that intimacy involve only two people at a time 362 363.

Appearance

  • Dragon soul: Usually appears privately as a phantom dragon and otherwise resides within Xuan Ming’s right-hand Black Dragon, whose eyes become ice blue under the soul’s influence 57.
  • Possession manifestation: Initially forms an ice-crystal dragon dozens of meters long, then adopts a figure over two meters tall, covered in ice crystals and obscured by frosty mist 57.
  • Resurrected human form: Described with icy skin, jade-like bones, exquisite beauty, and the majesty of a God King 329.
  • Distinguishing features: Ice-blue eyes with slit pupils; a cold, noble bearing; a magnificent icy-blue gown in later appearances 331 362.

Personality

The Ice Dragon King combines formidable pride with conspicuous childishness around trusted companions. Di Tian regards this first-generation Dragon King as exceptionally hot-tempered and proud, while the Fire Dragon King repeatedly mocks the insistence on being called “Big Sister.” Anger and embarrassment frequently cause cold Qi to spread into the surroundings 56 57 154.

Affection is highly selective. The Ice Dragon King is playful, talkative, and protective toward Xuan Ming, but openly admits to being cold toward almost everyone else. That protectiveness does not extend to universal compassion: despite rescuing Ah Rou and Xiao Wu, the Ice Dragon King accepts predation as beastkind’s governing rule and feels no particular pity for them 60 64.

Scheming and sincerity coexist in the relationship with Xuan Ming. The Ice Dragon King initially concealed political motives, later aggravated his injuries to test other people’s concern, and often interfered in his romantic difficulties. Nevertheless, the eventual sacrifice demonstrates a willingness to bear the cost of the path chosen for him 59 84 252.

The Ice Dragon King places particular trust in Xuan Ming’s stubborn principles. His refusal to submit merely for profit is treated as a reason to believe that he will honor his promises even after becoming too powerful to control 60 156.

Abilities and Skills

Ice and Water Control

The Ice Dragon King is also the Water Dragon King. Even after death, control over water elements is described as rivaled only by a true God Level being 64 232.

  • Produces freezing dragon breath, ice walls, icicle barrages, and ice prisons 55 57 58.
  • Uses water to sense the surroundings, support movement through a waterfall, and expose a concealed entrance 64.
  • Envelops the crown prince’s residence in a Demigod Level Ice Domain, instantly freezing Snake Lance Douluo and Porcupinefish Douluo 153.
  • After resurrection, uses God King-level Ultimate Ice Divine Power 331.
  • Is assigned battlefield crowd control alongside Bo Saixi, using the Extreme Cold Domain to restrict enemies 377.

Dragon Soul Possession

The dragon soul can enter Xuan Ming’s body and take control, allowing the Ice Dragon King to fight through him 57.

  • Full possession: Manifests a transformed combat body and briefly releases level ninety-nine power during the forest battle 57 58.
  • Partial possession: Transfers bodily control and a true dragon’s presence without changing Xuan Ming’s appearance; the early version can bluff opponents but cannot sustain an actual fight 61.
  • Consent: Although forcibly taking control—and potentially permanently taking the body—is described as possible, the Ice Dragon King disdains doing so and asks permission 57.
  • Early recovery cost: A full-strength possession requires at least a year of recovery outside the well, or about three months within it 60.
  • Later limitation: Carrying the dragon bones removes the geographical restriction, but Demigod Level output still consumes substantial energy and can leave Xuan Ming weakened 155 218.

Soul Resonance and Mental Intervention

A portion of the Ice Dragon King’s soul is fused with Xuan Ming, creating a route into his mental world 175.

  • Sends Gu Yuena into that world after Shi Nian’s Nightmare leaves him unresponsive 175.
  • Links dragon souls with the Silver Dragon King to share witnessed experiences 156.
  • Confines the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s spiritual form inside a chamber constructed from ultimate ice laws within Xuan Ming’s Sea of Consciousness 249.

Cultivation Guidance and Energy Infusion

The Ice Dragon King supplies cultivation knowledge and helps Xuan Ming make use of otherwise inaccessible divine remnants 61 67.

  • Works with the Fire Dragon King to temper his soul through alternating ice and fire power 56.
  • Teaches water and ice control, forming the basis of his Ice Domain 84.
  • Helps seal dragon-bone power into his Black Dragons and condense a Soul Core 127.
  • Helps upgrade the Wisdom Skull with dragon-bone energy, sharply increasing mental power and perception 190.
  • Identifies the importance of lightning origin power and urges him to attempt absorbing it after obtaining the Thundering Hell Vine’s Soul Ring 136.

Ancient Knowledge and Perception

  • Remembers sensing a powerful Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox sacrifice hundreds of thousands of years earlier; this memory leads to Dugu Bo’s discovery of the Nine-Tailed Fox Heart Lotus 92.
  • Explains the Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox’s abilities and its clan’s ancient conflict with the dragons 140.
  • Advises Xuan Ming on divine inheritances, faith-based godhood, and the function of Godhoods as connections to the Divine Realm Core 60 190 347.
  • Has acknowledged limits: cannot initially solve the Blood Spear’s uncontrolled devouring, and does not immediately understand Xuan Ming’s complex fusion of attributes 75 127.

Associated Relics and Territory

  • Dragon bones — The principal reservoir of surviving divine power. Later sealed into Xuan Ming, where they gather heaven and earth origin power and enable mobile Demigod Level combat 55 127 155.
  • Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well — Shared domain of the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings. The Ice Dragon King claims ownership of its immortal herbs and regards Dugu Bo as merely their gardener 77.
  • Ice and Fire Dragon Origin Head Crown — Xuan Ming’s associated ice-and-fire relic, carrying dragon-soul pressure and powers including ultimate cold. It is not equipment personally worn by the Ice Dragon King 195 217.
  • Million-Year Abyss Dragon Emperor Torso Bone — Created for Xuan Ming through the two kings’ dragon-bone energy and soul-essence sacrifice 252.

Relationships

  • Xuan Ming — Chosen successor, adopted younger brother, and eventual lover. Their bond survives a confrontation over concealed motives, the Ice Dragon King’s sacrifice, and resurrection 56 59 252 329 362.
  • Dragon God — Parent and early supporter; privately addressed as “Dad” 55 56.
  • Fire Dragon King — Fellow surviving Dragon King and partner in guiding Xuan Ming. Their cooperation is accompanied by frequent bickering and teasing 56 57 190 252.
  • Gu Yuena / Silver Dragon King — Central figure in the plan to restore the Dragon Clan’s prospects; later helps resurrect the Ice Dragon King 156 329.
  • Di Tian — Addresses the Ice Dragon King as an aunt. Resists the demand to call Xuan Ming “Uncle,” but agrees to train him after reviewing the Dragon Kings’ experiences 154 156 157.
  • Bibi Dong — Initially opposed in battle and distrusted because of her divine inheritance. Later receives explanations of Xuan Ming’s behavior and protection during the Spirit City confrontation 57 58 60 113 218.
  • Qian Renxue — Rebuked for mistreating Xuan Ming, then advised about her unresolved attachment to him. Later accuses the Ice Dragon King of covering for him unconditionally 153 332 334 373.
  • Zi JI — Younger dragon whose bloodline purity earns the Ice Dragon King’s respect; later a close companion who accompanies the visit to Xuan Ming in the mortal world 155 358 362.
  • Ah Rou and Xiao Wu — Rescued from Bibi Dong’s hunting party, though the rescue also serves plans for Xuan Ming’s future Soul Rings 57 58 59.
  • Sky Dream Ice Silkworm — A fellow presence in Xuan Ming’s Sea of Consciousness, swiftly silenced when his behavior annoys the Ice Dragon King 249.
