Personality

Su Youchuan cultivates the image of a mild, courteous gentleman. His apparent warmth conceals a calculating attitude toward others: he assumes Shang Shujue’s devotion is permanent and regards access to the Shang Family’s influence as something he can obtain whenever needed 11. Nuomi describes him as intelligent and explains that his upbringing repeatedly emphasized preserving the Su Family’s public dignity 104.

His romantic attachments are possessive and contradictory. Although he initially declares lifelong devotion to Hu Yichen, he develops feelings for Zhang Zhichen and later becomes fixated on Shang Shujue. He considers himself entitled to reject or manipulate Shang, but cannot accept Shang withdrawing his affection 11 29 83. After their confrontation at the training camp, he explicitly describes Shang’s independence and sharp tongue as qualities that make him want to conquer him 88.

Rejection and wounded pride can provoke violent retaliation, including attacks on his own associates 88 105. The text also describes recurring episodes requiring medication to stabilize his mood; Lin Xu offers him medicine labeled for bipolar disorder and manic symptoms 88 89.

Background / History

Childhood and family

Su Youchuan lost his mother as a child after his biological father’s infidelity. His father neglected him, and his family treated him as a source of income. Nuomi also describes a prolonged period in which he struggled with gender identity and the direction of his romantic feelings 104.

His relationship with his father, Su Hua, remains hostile. When Su Hua slaps him and demands that he resolve the Songhui Aristocratic Family’s lawyer’s letter, Su Youchuan catches his cane, condemns him over his mother, and forces him out of the estate 29.

Shang Shujue’s pursuit and withdrawal

The original Shang Shujue pursues Su Youchuan for nearly three years. Their circle becomes accustomed to using Su Youchuan’s name to secure Shang’s cooperation, while Su Youchuan accepts gifts without reciprocating his affection 8 11 83.

Su Youchuan initially claims that Hu Yichen is the only person he will ever love. Zhang Zhichen nevertheless cared for him during a low period, and Su later recognizes that he has fallen for Zhang 11 83.

When Shang blocks him and grows close to Song Yanqing, Su Youchuan attempts to locate him through Yang Shaoying. He then orders an edited photograph and an insinuating social-media post accusing Shang of pestering him and two-timing, triggering widespread online abuse 26. Song Yanqing’s response brings pressure on the Su Family, but Su Youchuan chooses further retaliation rather than reconciliation 29.

Retaliation and the training-camp visit

Unable to target the Shang Family safely after its business partnership with Song Yanqing and increased hacker protection, Su Youchuan turns toward other targets. He proposes placing Yang Shaoying’s younger male cousin at Song Yanqing’s sister’s college 49.

He also seeks Bai Zhiyi as a substitute for Zhang Zhichen. He brings Lin Yuyan to the training camp under the pretext of arranging an opportunity for a talented artist, intending to use a proposed group to gain access to Bai 82 88. Yu Yang recognizes the coercion behind his courteous manner and the bank card he offers 82.

Shang interrupts the meeting and rejects Su Youchuan’s suggestion that they try a relationship. Song Yanqing then arrives and openly acts close to Shang 85. Afterward, Su Youchuan attacks Lin Xu and Lin Yuyan, furious over Lin Yuyan’s interest in Shang and Shang’s closeness to Song 88 89.

Rival Children of Fortune

When evidence exposes Han Dong, Lin Xu, Li Yun'ao, and Yang Shaoying, Su Youchuan secures their release with the Ren Family’s help. Nuomi reveals that the World Consciousness created that family to support him and that only one of the rival Children of Fortune—Su Youchuan or Shang Shujue—can remain 96.

During a restaurant confrontation, Su Youchuan approaches complete “blackening.” Nuomi warns that this could bring worldwide calamity, so Shang changes tactics and performs wounded vulnerability instead of continuing to provoke him 103. His Blackening Points disappear, while his Favorability toward Shang rises to 69 104.

After Han Dong admits that he has liked Shang for years, Su Youchuan attacks him in the parking lot. The fight leaves Lin Xu unconscious and brings the group to the police station 105.

Breakdown and loss of fortune

Unable to contact Shang, Su Youchuan spends his evenings drinking and rereading old messages 120. His growing remorse and emotional breakdown coincide with the World Consciousness attempting to bind his emotions to the world’s weather and use his dream to create a new world 121.

Shang spends all his available points to reverse and freeze time, reaches Su Youchuan’s home, and destroys the World Consciousness fragment conducting the ritual. The link breaks, and Su Youchuan loses consciousness 121.

Nian Chen subsequently takes him into the Land of Obsession. By the time Mo Heng returns to the real world more than a month later, Su Youchuan’s fortune has passed to Shang, and those formerly sheltered by it face ruin 124. His former associates later have their memories of him erased or altered 129.

Land of Obsession and final return

Nian Chen confines Su Youchuan, subjects him to coercive intimacy, and feeds him blood to transform him into a demon. Mo Heng instructs Nian Chen to prevent his return to the original world 124.

Su Youchuan secretly cultivates to escape, planning to obtain a map and return home. Nian Chen discovers his intentions, places an undetectable tracking mark on him, and secretly strengthens his demonic energy 147.

After Su Youchuan becomes a demon, Ren Daiqi warns Shang that he may eventually cross the world’s boundary. Shang has Nuomi conceal the world’s coordinates, making it absent from the illustrated map of the three thousand worlds 164 165.

Su Youchuan nevertheless reaches the space outside the world in time to watch Shang and Song Yanqing’s wedding. He asks Ren Daiqi whether Shang is happy, receives confirmation, and returns to the Land of Obsession with Nian Chen without entering 166.
