Life with the Bai Family

Huo Yuzhou received financial support from the Bai family for eight years. Nan Qing, then the family’s young master, had encouraged Father Bai to sponsor him. The sponsorship did not protect Huo Yuzhou from mistreatment: he worked for the family, while its members ignored Nan Qing’s open bullying 11 56.

Nan Qing’s mission-driven harassment included forcing him to eat leftovers, hitting him, stepping on his hands, humiliating him, and sabotaging his projects. Despite this, Huo Yuzhou regularly bought him water, carried his bag, collected him to take him home, and comforted him during tantrums 4 11 13.

Huo Yuzhou later explained that he had noticed the contradictions in Nan Qing’s behavior. A genuinely malicious child, he reasoned, would not secretly bring medicine for his injuries, leave study materials beneath his pillow, or arrange the dismissal of servants who hurt him 147.

After coming of age, Huo Yuzhou left the Bai family and built his fortune through his own judgment and ability. During college, he sought investment for a project developed with his roommates. Nan Qing continued causing trouble during this period, including spilling coffee on him and ruining a laptop during his final defense 11 47.

He eventually established a powerful business empire in S City and continued supporting the Bai family’s business. He later described himself as the richest man in the city 55 130.

Fate in the Original Storyline

In the original plot described to Nan Qing, Bai Ruanruan became Huo Yuzhou’s “white moonlight.” Bai repeatedly encouraged his hopes while maintaining his relationship with Xi Juan, drawing Huo Yuzhou into a prolonged rivalry with the favored protagonist. That storyline ended in betrayal and despair, costing Huo Yuzhou his business empire and much of his life 16.

This projected fate differs from the unfolding story: Huo Yuzhou has loved Nan Qing for years, rejects Bai Ruanruan’s advances, and ultimately marries Nan Qing 23 83 152.
