Background

Ye Yao awakens on Douluo Continent with his soul divided among the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise. Each body can move independently: when he tests the Azure Dragon’s tail, the other bodies do not need to follow its movements 1.

The Four Sacred Beasts System requires each body to become a Soul Ring for a powerful Soul Master, allowing Ye Yao to retaliate through the sacred beast’s soul and possess the absorber. The Azure Dragon is particularly suited to Soul Masters with beast Martial Souls. Greater strength and attribute compatibility in the host increase the mission rewards 1.

Appearance

• Body: An enormous, slender, serpentine dragon covered in azure scales, with four clawed limbs 12 32.
• Head: A crocodile-like mouth, long whiskers, backward-extending horns, and golden eyes with slit pupils. Its horns are described as golden during its physical appearance above Qingchuan Mountain Range 12 32.
• Scale size: A single scale is nearly as large as a person 32.
• Stature: Its coiled body resembles an azure mountain; after landing, its raised head reaches five hundred meters above the ground 32.
• Presence: Its azure-and-gold head appears sacred, and even Golden Crocodile Douluo experiences fear rooted in his bloodline upon seeing its full form 33.

Personality

The Azure Dragon’s actions express Ye Yao’s calculated approach to the system’s possession mission. Rather than simply escaping the hunters, he removes weaker candidates and deliberately gives stronger Soul Masters an opportunity to kill him. He specifically wants to avoid having his Soul Ring claimed by an unremarkable Soul Master or a member of either imperial family 32 33.

He is ruthless in selecting those candidates. His manipulation of the forest forces weaker hunters to flee and kills others, yet he subsequently remains almost motionless while the surviving forces injure him. This apparent passivity is intentional, although it leaves experienced opponents suspicious 32 33.

The Azure Dragon governs vitality and possesses wood-attribute power, allowing it to control surrounding vegetation 12 16.

Lightning is one of the Azure Dragon’s governing powers and an offensive ability identified by the Heavenly Screen 12 16.

• Its lightning attribute makes its Soul Ring especially attractive to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan 12 19.
• No specific lightning technique is demonstrated in the supplied battle passages.

Physique, Scales, and Claws

The Azure Dragon possesses a powerful physique, highly defensive scales, and claws suited to close combat 12.

• Requires all four beasts to gather and complete a fusion 16.
• The completed fusion is stated to surpass God Level 16.
• This is a conditional collective power, not a demonstrated individual advancement of the Azure Dragon 16.

Soul Ring and Reverse Possession

The Azure Dragon’s Soul Ring is both a coveted reward for hunters and the means by which Ye Yao intends to obtain a host 1 19.

• Can replace an existing Soul Ring, so an absorber does not need an empty slot 18 19.
• Remains dangerous to absorb: insufficient strength can cause the absorber’s death 19.
• Collecting all four Holy Beast Soul Rings may reproduce their fusion power and allow the collector to surpass God Level 18.

Heavenly Screen Revelation

The Heavenly Screen reveals the Azure Dragon last among the ten greatest Soul Beasts, announcing it as first place while clarifying that the four highest positions have no internal order. Its accessible river habitat and lightning abilities immediately attract Yu Yuanzhen, whose clan has just withdrawn from fighting the White Tiger 12.

The revelation of the Four Holy Beasts’ fusion and replaceable Soul Rings greatly increases the stakes. Because Qingchuan Mountain Range can be reached overland without crossing the sea, entering a volcano, or breaking Spirit Hall’s blockade, the Azure Dragon becomes the most accessible target for the wider Soul Master population 16 18 19 20.

Search of Qingchuan Mountain Range

The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, both empires, the Lower Four Sects, Spirit Hall, and unaffiliated hunters converge on the mountains. Branching rivers and dense forests complicate the search, while competing groups fight over routes and withhold clues from one another 21 25.

Nearly ten thousand Soul Masters eventually gather without finding the dragon. After rainfall passes, the mountains remain unnaturally dark. Yu Yuanzhen senses Soul Power overhead, and Golden Crocodile Douluo recognizes that the supposed cloud cover consists of the Azure Dragon’s scales 30 31.

Descent and Mass Assault

Ye Yao first uses the forest to remove weaker hunters from contention. He then descends, causing further deaths through the impact and resulting terrain collapse. Between flight, plant attacks, and the landing chaos, nearly half the gathered Soul Masters are no longer present when he settles on the ground 32.

Rather than retaliating, he lets the survivors bombard him in hopes that a strong candidate will claim his Soul Ring. Initial attacks barely scratch his defenses, but repeated volleys break increasing numbers of scales. Yu Yuanzhen eventually joins the assault, while Golden Crocodile Douluo continues waiting for an advantage. The documented battle ends with the Azure Dragon heavily injured but still alive, its lack of resistance troubling the more experienced attackers 33.
