Background / History

Rise on Dorito

Ragnar emerged in Dorito’s spore-contaminated mushroom swamps after a meteorite brought Ork spores to the agri-world in M41.997. Shorter and much heavier than other newly emerged Boyz, he was mocked as a “fatball,” “bottomless pit,” and “useless eating machine” 239.

His standing changed during a battle against a human patrol. Tucking his limbs into his body, he rolled downhill and smashed through the soldiers while his fat absorbed their fire. This victory earned him the tribe’s respect and eventually its leadership. He expanded his territory and occupied an abandoned human farm, where plentiful food accelerated his growth 239.

Ragnar’s discovery of menzi transformed his campaigns. Empowered by the Orks’ collective Waaagh!, the food strengthened his followers and accelerated their regeneration. Although a red Knight gravely wounded him and forced a retreat, the Knight subsequently disappeared. Ragnar recovered, resumed his offensive half a year later, and conquered Dorito’s remaining human fortresses. The account describes him as the most powerful Ork warlord in the Calixis Sector 239.

Rule and the Fall of Carl II

Rather than immediately expanding after taking Dorito, Ragnar spent time consolidating his strength. He maintained authority over multiple clans and used the fiercely loyal psyker Sith as his second-in-command and military overseer on Carl II, where Sith served as a counterweight to Chandler 219 282.

Before Carl II fell, Sith sent Ragnar a psychic warning to beware the Hokage Clan. Ragnar dismissed it publicly but privately ordered an investigation 250. When Toothy arrived on Dorito claiming to represent Blood Axe survivors, Ragnar recognized that the visitors were concealing their identity. He nevertheless retained them because their report was mostly true and they might prove useful 269 270.

Ragnar then mustered a vast fleet and departed for Carl II. His initial assault coordinated several clans: Goffs absorbed defensive fire, Deathskulls and Bad Moons bombarded asteroid fortresses, and Evil Sunz and Blood Axes exploited the resulting breach 270 285.

Battle Aboard the *Gemstone*

The arrival of Dominic’s fleet disrupted Ragnar’s offensive. Despite outnumbering the humans by more than five to one, his ships struggled against their sustained firepower and use of Carl II as cover 287. Ragnar bargained with the Stew God for greater power, ultimately surrendering one-third of his supreme stew 290 301.

Ragnar led his wrecking ball brigade into the Gemstone, surviving nerve gas, Melta Bombs, and heavy defensive fire. His empowered transformation allowed him to overwhelm the Ventria Guard and Sisters of Silence, fight the Custodian Renix, and destroy Stormblade tanks 297 300 301 302 306.

Driven into a frenzy by the attack on his flagship, the Anna, Ragnar focused on killing Dominic. He tore through the noble’s guards, bit off his left arm, and disabled his armor 307 308. Ralfa’s Annihilation Spirit Box also failed to finish him 310 313 315.

Lynn and Rena finally intercepted Ragnar. They overwhelmed him in close combat, immobilized him with Neural Lances, and annihilated his body. The entire confrontation lasted no more than fifteen seconds 314 315.

Resurrection and Retreat

Before his destruction was complete, Ragnar begged the Stew God for rescue, offering his remaining supreme stew, fleet, planet, and possessions. The entity accepted and secretly carried away the last fragment of his soul 319.

Ragnar emerged from his cauldron aboard the Flatbread Meat Roll. His return reunited the fleet’s scattered Waaagh! Fields, but the encounter with Lynn and Rena had terrified him. Despite having hundreds of warships and tens of millions of Boyz nearby, he immediately ordered a full retreat 320.

The defeat cost him a third of his fleet and badly damaged his prestige. During the return journey, his forces encountered three Blight Arks and fought their plague-ridden occupants 327. Back on Dorito, Ragnar found his mushroom fields and Squig farms devastated by walking corpses. Learning that Toothy had contained the outbreak, he summoned the Gretchin and later appointed him chief adviser 330 335.

Fall of Dorito and Death

Ragnar entrusted Toothy with troops, vehicles, and aircraft to help defend Dorito. Toothy’s confidence in the planet’s defenses initially impressed him, but Dominic’s fleet broke through and bombarded Cauldron City, starports, workshops, and food-producing areas 335 338.

The bombardment nearly killed Ragnar, destroyed his command room, and severed an arm. Although he regenerated, subsequent attacks and the failure of the Carl II raid left him unable to protect what remained of his holdings 340 342.

After Toothy escaped imprisonment and began rallying dissatisfied Orks, Ragnar resolved to kill him personally. Lynn exploited this challenge to Ragnar’s authority, arranging a public duel at Horseshoe Mountain Valley. Despite warnings of an ambush, Ragnar marched into the valley with five million troops 346 347 348.

The Imperial Fleet saturated the valley with fire. Ragnar’s throne-cauldron was destroyed, and the bombardment inflicted damage faster than he could regenerate. His appeals to the Stew God went unanswered. Dominic later recalled the operation as the strike that killed Ragnar 349 397.

Appearance

  • Characteristic build: An exceptionally round Ork with a huge belly hanging toward his knees. At his established size, he was roughly as wide as he was tall, with fat bulging beneath his armor 239 270.
  • Face: Yellowed tusks and a frequently greasy mouth and chin 270.
  • Empowered form: His excess fat burned away, leaving a muscular body with crimson skin, rising steam, and improvised metal gauntlets formed from melted armor 300 301.
  • Abdominal mouth: Developed an enormous second mouth on his belly, capable of feeding independently and drawing in corpses 305.
  • After rebirth: Initially had reddish-brown skin that cooled to green and emitted a cooked-meat aroma. During later recovery, his skin became sickly waxy yellow 320 327.

Personality

Ragnar was more calculating than his appearance suggested. Lynn regarded him as both powerful and highly intelligent, noting his use of tactics, clan unity, and patient preparation. He exchanged information with Blood Axe kommando bosses and willingly learned anything that might make him stronger 282 287.

He could also recognize useful talent across Ork social boundaries. He elevated the ostracized Sith and later praised Toothy’s intelligence over that of his larger Warbosses, appointing a Gretchin as chief adviser 219 334 335.

His confidence concealed deep insecurity. Childhood ridicule left him intensely protective of his reputation, and he found public defeat almost intolerable. This vulnerability allowed both the Stew God and Toothy to provoke him into reckless decisions 289 347 348.

Food—especially his treasured supreme stew—was his greatest passion outside warfare. He reacted violently to insults against it, abused servants who failed to provide enough, and treated the supreme stew as something as precious as his life. Faced with actual annihilation, however, he surrendered every possession to survive 239 289 290 319.

Abilities & Skills

Human Bullet Tank

Ragnar’s earliest signature attack used his unusual physique as a living projectile 239.

  • Tucked his limbs inward and rolled downhill at high speed.
  • Crushed soldiers and weapons through sheer impact.
  • Relied on thick fat to withstand ordinary laser fire and bullets.

Menzi Enhancement

Waaagh!-empowered menzi provided a major advantage to Ragnar’s armies 239 282.

  • Temporarily doubled an Ork’s strength, speed, and reflexes.
  • Greatly accelerated healing, including regrowth of severed hands and feet.
  • Remained effective for only three days.

Stew God’s Power

Ragnar obtained supernatural strength and protection through bargains with the entity inhabiting his cauldron 289 301.

  • Strength: Flattened a Stormblade turret and shattered depleted Storm Shields with his fists 306.
  • Speed: Moved with afterimages and surpassed Renix in raw speed and strength, though her experience helped her hold her own 301 302.
  • Durability: Power Halberds left only shallow white marks on his transformed skin 301.
  • Resistance to suppression: The Sisters of Silence could not suppress his borrowed power, which did not appear to be ordinary Psychic Power or Ork Waaagh! energy 301.
  • Limits: He could still be wounded by powerful attacks and was decisively outmatched by Lynn and Rena 306 314.

Devouring and Regeneration

Ragnar’s abdominal mouth allowed him to consume both organic matter and metal to recover from injuries 305.

  • Drew corpses toward itself with suction.
  • Repaired severe wounds after consuming Stormblade wreckage.
  • Produced metallic-looking skin resistant to bolts and missiles 305 306.
  • Regrew damaged organs, limbs, and his spine 305 314 342.
  • Could not heal quickly enough to survive sustained saturation bombardment 349.

Claims that Ragnar permanently grew stronger by eating defeated bosses circulated among his Boyz, but Lynn explicitly treated those reports as unreliable 282.

Waaagh! Leadership

Ragnar’s presence held together a large, multi-clan military force 285 320.

  • His apparent death shattered the fleet’s Waaagh! Field and triggered widespread chaos 319.
  • His rebirth drew the scattered fields back together around the Flatbread Meat Roll 320.
  • His authority was sufficient to compel the clans to abandon a major war and retreat 321.
  • Defeat weakened both his field and his political standing, leaving subordinates increasingly resentful 327 346.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Throne of Gluttony — An adamantium cooking pot over ten meters across, mounted on a heavy four-legged mech. Gretchin attendants fed Ragnar from its contents; it also served as his means of communicating with the Stew God 270 289.
  • Supreme stew / ultimate stew — His most prized food, prepared from rare Ork ingredients and the flesh of powerful enemies. Used as payment for the Stew God’s assistance 289 290 319.
  • Anna — A tentacled, pot-like flagship powered by menzi rather than a conventional reactor. Ragnar took particular pride in it, and its threatened destruction drove him into a frenzy 285 307.
  • Power Axe — Used to split open a Stormblade’s driving compartment during the boarding action aboard the Gemstone 300.
  • Improvised metal gauntlets — Formed when melted armor solidified around his hands during his transformation 301.

Relationships

  • Sith — Second-in-command and devoted military overseer. Ragnar discovered his psychic talent and promoted him; Sith’s final warning alerted Ragnar to the Hokage Clan 219 227 250.
  • Chandler — Powerful subordinate and potential rival. Ragnar retained Sith on Carl II partly as a check against him 219.
  • Stew God — Secret patron and bargaining partner. Granted power and rescued Ragnar’s soul, but demanded increasingly costly payments and did not answer his final plea 289 290 319 349.
  • Toothy — Initially a suspicious refugee, later Ragnar’s chief adviser. Secretly served Lynn and ultimately lured Ragnar into the fatal Horseshoe Mountain Valley trap 270 335 348.
  • Lynn — Principal enemy and architect of his final defeat. Together with Rena, destroyed Ragnar’s original body; later arranged the bombardment that killed him 314 315 348 397.
  • Rena — Overwhelmed Ragnar physically and helped annihilate his body. After rebirth, he regarded her and Lynn as nightmares he never wanted to face again 314 315 320.
  • Dominic — Imperial naval opponent. Ragnar bit off his left arm and nearly killed him; Dominic subsequently led the assault on Dorito 308 338.
  • Ralfa and Renix — Imperial defenders who fought to prevent him from reaching Dominic aboard the Gemstone 301 302 303.
