Background / History

Childhood and escape from Ohara

Robin was ostracized as a child because of her Devil Fruit, with other children calling her a monster and refusing to associate with her. Following Ohara’s destruction, she escaped by small boat and encountered Kali Dill floating at sea, saving his life 1 2.

Their association made Dill a wanted accomplice. For the next two and a half years, they fled from island to island, pursued more often by World Government agents than Marines. Their wanted status initially made even buying food difficult, but Dill’s hypnosis work kept them fed 1 2.

Robin inherited Ohara’s will and set her sights on the Poneglyphs. Although she wanted the World Government overthrown for destroying her homeland, fear of its power—and particularly the Buster Call—remained with her 6 10.

Black Fire and Cologne Island

When the Bullet Family arranged to capture Robin alive and exchange her for favor with the Marines, Dill chose to establish a foothold rather than flee immediately. Robin helped ambush Black Fire’s leaders, firing twenty guns through summoned arms and wounding Boren during the warehouse battle 1 2 4.

After Dill took control of Black Fire, Robin assumed responsibility for its administration. She curbed the gang’s abuse of civilians, reorganized protection payments as taxes, and handled the expanding network of utilities, port operations, businesses, shipyards, and hot springs. Despite holding a doctorate in history rather than having experience managing towns, she accepted the work to help Dill 6.

Robin directed Black Fire from a concealed office, issuing instructions in Gunpowder’s name while publicly presenting herself as his secretary. After Bege’s recruitment, she and Dill left among at least ten departing ships. A fabricated report portrayed the Devil Child as having been defeated and Black Fire as the island’s new Public Security Bureau 7 10.

Hina’s arrival and the Control-Control Fruit king

During a sea cow attack, Robin helped Dill and Hina reach a lifeboat, then used a chart and compass to locate an island. Hina joined them during the escape, making Robin the youngest of their three-person group 12.

On the island, Robin’s reconnaissance exposed two hunters arguing over a bear. One hunter pierced her summoned arms, causing enough pain to dissolve both her own disguise and Dill’s 12 13.

The group was later captured by a king whose Control-Control Fruit could command people named Dill. Robin attempted to blind the soldiers and disrupt their Den Den Mushi, but surrendered when Dill was threatened. She was confined in a water-filled barrel to suppress her strength 16.

When their guards left, Hina drained Robin’s barrel, allowing the two to free one another. Robin scouted the castle with summoned eyes, located Dill, and formed a rope of arms to help pull him to the second floor before their escape 19.

The Poneglyph and the forest tribe

A book about nearby islands described a tribe guarding an unusual stone. Robin and Dill immediately recognized the possibility of a Poneglyph and arranged passage toward the unnamed island 22 24.

After Sally agreed to grant access, Robin reached the monument nearly three years after the Ohara Incident. She translated its inscription, memorized it, and supervised the creation of a paper rubbing without removing the stone 27 28.

Robin subsequently identified apples as the remedy for the tribe’s muscle-dissolving illness by consulting a book bought at the previous port. Her discovery allowed Dill to arrange an apple shipment from Cologne Island. During their stay, she also taught the children about the importance of mothers 31 32.

Vlad’s restoration and the North Blue

Robin accompanied the group to Mist Island and Thriller Bark while they aided the fugitive prince Wolf Vlad. Her disguises allowed all six travelers to pass a harbor search without soldiers recognizing him 36 37.

She investigated the cemetery’s reported ghosts with Hina, Gunpowder, and Boren, then helped Dill watch for Perona using eyes grown on a tree. After Perona joined them, Robin helped bathe her, took her shopping with Hina, and read vampire stories to both girls 38 40 41 43.

Following Vlad’s restoration, Robin celebrated her third New Year’s Eve with Dill in a lavish dining room, wearing an expensive coat and sharing a cake prepared to suit her preference for less sweetness. Bege later escorted the group across the Red Line. Over the following half-year, Robin traveled through the North Blue with Dill, Hina, and Perona while Dill searched for a submarine 48 50.

Appearance

  • Everyday clothing: Wears a white top and khaki pants during the group’s stay on the island ruled by the Control-Control Fruit king 15.
  • Concealment: Uses a mask and height-increasing shoes while working for Black Fire, supplementing her Devil Fruit disguises 7.
  • Later clothing: Wears an expensive coat during the group’s third New Year’s Eve together 48.

Personality

Robin is composed under pressure and accustomed to public hostility. While Hina is distressed by being paraded through the streets as a prisoner, Robin remains calm after years of being branded the Devil Child. Her loyalty to Dill is equally firm: she advises Hina to surrender if it might save her life, but intends to remain with him herself 16.

Her dry humor often targets Dill’s habits and low bounty. She teases him for needing newspapers read aloud, challenges his criticism of her shooting, and jokingly warns Hina that an unpaid restaurant bill might lead to the chef chopping them up 2 4 21 22.

Her scholarly reserve gives way to open excitement around Poneglyphs. She becomes visibly impatient to reach the tribe’s stone, then carefully preserves its inscription through memory and a rubbing. She also shows concern for others, including the people left aboard a commandeered ship and Hina when she feels excluded from the group 22 23 27 28.

Abilities & Skills

Flower-Flower Fruit

Robin can sprout body parts on tangible objects within sight. These parts transmit sensations back to her, enabling both remote observation and coordinated physical work 1.

  • Surveillance: Grows eyes and ears to observe distant conversations, inspect the castle, and monitor Perona’s arrival 12 19 40.
  • Rescue and transport: Links arms into climbable ropes, rows with additional arms, and secures herself and Hina while Dill carries them 12 19 20.
  • Restraint escape: Uses summoned hands to undo Hina’s chains after the water suppressing her own strength is drained 19.
  • Physical intervention: Pushes Dill away with her ability when he repeatedly asks her for meat through telepathy 47.

Facial Disguises

Robin attaches additional flesh to faces to alter their appearance. Dill introduced this application, and the group uses it extensively to evade recognition 1 25.

  • Maintains disguises for herself and her companions, including all six travelers entering Thriller Bark with Vlad 25 37.
  • Receives a tactile signal when Dill taps his forehead three times, telling her to remove his disguise 1.
  • Cannot maintain disguises indefinitely; during their earlier travels, this restricted how long she and Dill could safely remain outside 34.
  • Severe pain can interrupt the effect, as shown when a hunter pierces her summoned arms 13.

Combat

Robin fights through multiple summoned limbs and weapons, but her young body limits her effectiveness against stronger adults 4 16.

  • Multi-weapon gunfire: Fires twenty guns simultaneously during the Black Fire ambush, striking Boren five times without inflicting fatal wounds 4.
  • Vulnerable-point attacks: Under Dill’s instruction, targets enemies’ eyes because her joint locks are not yet effective against adults 16.
  • Shared pain and recoil: Feels the recoil of every gun she fires through summoned hands and the pain inflicted on her created limbs 4 13 16.
  • Water weakness: Loses strength when most of her body is submerged. Her experiments confirm that fresh water, baths, hot springs, and swimming pools also weaken ability users 5 16.

Historical Research and Literacy

Robin holds a doctorate in history and can decipher the Ancient Script used on Poneglyphs 6 28.

  • Translates, memorizes, and makes rubbings of inscriptions 28.
  • Uses reference books to investigate local customs and identify the remedy for the tribe’s illness 22 31.
  • Reads newspapers to Dill and explains political institutions such as the Shichibukai to Hina 2 32.
  • Navigation: Calculates the group’s position using a nautical chart and compass, then keeps their lifeboat on course toward land 12.
  • Lookout work: Uses a telescope from the ship’s lookout to locate the unnamed island 25.
  • Administration: Directs Black Fire’s reforms and manages its expanding commercial responsibilities while keeping her identity concealed 6 7.

Relationships

  • Kali Dill — Traveling partner whose life she saved after escaping Ohara. Their trust develops through years of flight; although Robin says she follows his lead, Dill explicitly considers them partners rather than superior and subordinate. He does not use hypnosis to alter their relationship 1 2 12 28 50.
  • Hina — Companion and friend. Robin navigates their escape together, personally includes her in the discussion of Poneglyphs, and cooperates with her to escape captivity 12 19 23.
