Power Progression
Zhou Qing
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Second Level — Ice Heart | 1 | Reached before his original Heavenly Tribulation. His Heartforce talent attracted Ancestor God Fantian, who accepted him as a disciple. |
| Third Level — Ruler Realm | 1 | Attained during several chaos cycles of imprisonment in the seventeenth World Prison, as his determination to survive strengthened his Dao-heart. |
| Fourth Level — Mortal World | 15 | Receiving more than six hundred years of simulated memories rekindled his original pursuit of the Great Dao, freedom, and strength. |
| Fifth Level — Trueheart | 98 | Escaping the World Prison’s chains resolved his deepest obsession, allowing his Heartforce to return to its true state. |
Zhou Qing’s Royal-Family Simulation
These attainments belong to a separate simulated life, not a regression of Zhou Qing’s existing Heartforce 41 45.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Level — Initiation | 41 | Cultivated a Heartforce method while studying destruction, then cleared the Tower of Samsara’s first level. |
| Second Level — Iceheart | 41 | Cleared the tower’s second level twenty years later, before preparing for his Heavenly Tribulation. |
Levels and Advancement
| Level | Name | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| First | Initiation | The introductory level; described by Fantian as attainable by most geniuses 15. |
| Second | Ice Heart / Iceheart | Also considered relatively accessible to geniuses. Corresponds to clearing the Tower of Samsara’s second level 15 41. |
| Third | Mastery / Ruler Realm | The point where advancement becomes sharply more difficult. Called “Ruler Realm” when Zhou Qing’s imprisonment-era breakthrough is described, and “Mastery” in Fantian’s explanation 1 15. |
| Fourth | Mortal World / Mortal Dust Realm | Associated with original aspiration. Zhou Qing reaches it by recovering the purpose that imprisonment had displaced with a fixation on survival 15 30. |
| Fifth | Trueheart | Requires facing one’s own heart and resolving a deeply buried obsession 98. |
- Cultivation rank does not determine Heartforce rank. Hou Yi reached the fifth stage while still an Empyrean God, whereas many True Gods and Dao Ancestors remained at the second stage after immense spans of time 26.
- Talent is decisive. Zhou Qing’s rapid advancement is considered plausible because of his exceptional Dao-heart and performance in the Golden Light Cave’s Heart-Questioning Trial 26.
- Endurance and breakthroughs are not identical. Several chaos cycles of imprisonment strengthened Zhou Qing enough to reach the third level, but his loss of original aspiration prevented him from reaching the fourth 1 15.
Abilities & Skills
Combat Enhancement
Heartforce can empower physical attacks without an immediately obvious outward sign 25.
- Fourth-level Heartforce raises Zhou Qing’s claw techniques to the pinnacle of Empyrean God and True Immortal power, allowing him to break Bai Qi’s Godslayer attack 25.
- Consecutive Heartforce-enhanced claw strikes exhaust Bai Qi’s divine power and kill him while Dark World prevents his escape 26.
- Its concealed nature makes it difficult to identify: ordinary Dao Ancestors cannot recognize Zhou Qing’s fourth-stage Heartforce, while Dao Father Carefree recognizes it through his own attainment at that stage 26.
Illusions and Soul-Bewitchment
The Heart Sutra contains separate methods for Heartforce illusions and soul-bewitchment 21.
- Combat disruption: An illusion makes a green-robed prisoner dizzy and lightheaded, reducing his strength by a further fifty percent after Darkworld Descent has already suppressed him. He subsequently loses control of his defensive sand 33.
- Influencing cooperation: Zhou Qing bewitches Gongsun Bai into permitting a memory search, then sends Heartforce into his Celestial Immortal golden core to examine his memories 33.
- Unusual targets: Heartforce illusions affect Snowfiend despite Zhou Qing’s concern that its abnormal nature might make it immune 47.
- Combined suppression: Dark World and a Heartforce illusion together leave Purgatory God able to exert only sixty percent of his strength 51.
Heartforce Enslavement
Heartforce Enslavement alters a target’s thinking and compels submission to the practitioner 16.
- Zhou Qing exploits an obvious flaw in Celestial Immortal Chixin’s Dao-heart. Chixin cannot resist his fourth-level Heartforce and immediately acknowledges him as master 16.
- Zhou Qing also enslaves Shaoyan Chou, obtains his treasures, and later orders him and his seventeen clones to commit suicide 16 17.
- At the fifth level, Heart God General uses enslavement to control more than a hundred True Gods and Dao Ancestors across the Three Realms 56.
Perception and Investigation
Heartforce supports large-area observation, examination of techniques, and specialized mental investigation 29 62 103.
- Spatial searching: Combined with Zhou Qing’s spatial attainments, it locates Skyburner Venomwind caves hidden deep in the void 29.
- Wide-area surveillance: Zhou Qing’s Heartforce covers the Netherworld and immediately detects disturbances caused by incoming enemies tearing through space and time 76.
- Studying inheritances: He uses Heartforce to examine and memorize World God Beixiu’s mountain-sized collection of techniques 62.
- Detecting enslavement: Fifth-stage Heartforce, paired with an investigative secret art, reveals abnormalities in more than sixty Nuwa Faction major powers—even when they attend his ceremony through avatars 103.
Heart Demon Resistance
Heartforce cultivation strengthens the Dao-heart and improves resistance to Heart Demon Tribulations 41 42.
- With fourth-level Mortal Dust Realm Heartforce, Zhou Qing experiences his Empyrean God Heart Demon Tribulation as another life; its world develops according to his plans 30.
- In the Nine Directions Chaos Kingdom’s established system of inheritances and protective treasures, second-level Heartforce is generally sufficient for an Empyrean God or first-class Celestial Immortal Heart Demon Tribulation 42.
- Heartforce does not guarantee safety in every tribulation. Ji Ning nearly succumbs to the extraordinarily lifelike Heart Demon world of his Second-Class Celestial Immortal Tribulation despite possessing third-level Heartforce 99.
Training and Inheritances
Heartforce Arts
| Art | Origin | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Heart Sutra | A Heartforce legacy discovered by Fantian during his travels through chaos; later the Maha Sect’s supreme art | Contains soul-bewitchment, illusions, enslavement, and combat methods that reduce Heartforce consumption. Zhou Qing values it above the World Prison’s seven great arts 21 26 41. |
| Seeking the Dao | Created by Daoist Sanqing | Leads directly to fourth-level Heartforce. Zhou Qing selects it to provide a plausible origin for his existing attainment 21. |
| Royal-family simulation method | Nine Directions Chaos Kingdom | Used by Zhou Qing’s simulated self to temper his Dao-heart; Zhou Qing judges it far inferior to the Heart Sutra 41 45. |
Tower of Samsara
- A wondrous treasure refined by Chaos Immortal Biyun under the King of Nine Directions. Its five increasingly realistic samsara trials correspond to Heartforce’s five levels 41.
- Clearing a floor demonstrates the corresponding attainment: the first indicates basic Heartforce mastery, the second Iceheart, and the fifth Trueheart 41.
- Fantian advanced from fourth- to fifth-level Heartforce during a tower trial earned through military service 41.
- Access is restricted. Even as a peak Ancestor God, Fantian could not secure Zhou Qing a place before his original tribulation because the kingdom’s upper ranks had already reserved the slots 41.
Other Dao-Heart Trials
- Golden Light Cave’s Heart-Questioning Trial: Subjects challengers to Endless Reincarnation, ending when their Dao-heart can endure no more. Zhou Qing withstands more than 1,800 reincarnations, strengthening his foundation against heart demons 12 14.
- Tribulation support: Demon-Expelling Incense, Spirit-Awakening Pills, and Soul-Calming Jade supplement Heartforce rather than replace it. Zhou Qing uses all three alongside second-level Heartforce during his original tribulation 42.
Limitations
- Finite reserves: Unlike Primordial Powers drawn from the Chaos Universe, Heartforce is exhaustible. Zhou Qing normally approaches depletion after roughly a dozen full-power attacks; the Heart Sutra’s combat methods approximately double that number 26 35.
- No pill-based replenishment advantage: Magic power can be quickly restored with immortal pills, whereas Heartforce lacks that convenience 57.
- Not always the strongest medium for illusions: With the same third-level Power of Illusion enhancement, Zhou Qing’s Dao Ancestor-comparable magic power produces stronger, longer-lasting illusions than his fourth-level Heartforce 57.
- Powerful targets resist manipulation: His Heartforce, illusions, and suppression methods are almost useless against the World Prison’s True God and first-tier True Immortal prisoners at that point 34.
- Investigation carries risk: At the fourth stage, Zhou Qing postpones searching major powers for Elder Yuan’s control because he fears both failure and alerting the enemy. He proceeds only after reaching the fifth stage 103.
Notable Practitioners
| Practitioner | Documented Attainment | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Zhou Qing | Fifth level — Trueheart | Combines Heartforce-enhanced combat, illusions, enslavement, and investigation; reaches Trueheart after escaping imprisonment 98 103. |
| Ancestor God Fantian | Fifth level | Peak Ancestor God specializing in Heartforce, founder of the Maha Sect, and Zhou Qing’s teacher in the Heart Sutra 1 21 41. |
| Heart God General / Elder Yuan | Fifth level | Peak Ancestor God who secretly enslaves more than a hundred Three Realms major powers 56. |
| Hou Yi | Fifth level while an Empyrean God | Demonstrates that Heartforce attainment can far exceed what cultivation rank alone might suggest 26. |
| Dao Father Carefree | Fourth level | Recognizes Zhou Qing’s Heartforce during the battle with Bai Qi 26. |
| Ji Ning | Third level | Possesses this attainment by his Second Primaltwin’s Second-Class Celestial Immortal Tribulation, which he survives only narrowly 99. |
