Background / History
Conflict with Ye Nan
Wu Chen belonged to a powerful Jiangcheng family whose influence exceeded that of the local Ye Family. As one of Jiangcheng Middle School’s top talents, he attracted students who flattered him. He openly pursued Wang Lingxi, but she consistently ignored him 8 9 11.
After returning from seclusion, Wu Chen intended to confront Ye Nan for drunkenly pinning Wang Lingxi against a wall. Ye Nan instead sought him out beneath a red maple tree and proposed settling their dispute privately in the combat room 8 9.
Wu Chen expected an easy victory, but his punch failed to move or injure Ye Nan. Ye Nan then sent him flying with a restrained counterpunch. Shocked by the difference in strength, Wu Chen asked how powerful Ye Nan really was; Ye Nan told him to wait for the college entrance exam and requested that he keep their fight secret 9.
Reconciliation and the Alchemy Lecture
Wu Chen considered using his family’s influence to retaliate, but decided that befriending Ye Nan would better serve the Wu Family’s future. He concealed his defeat by telling the waiting students that they had merely chatted in the combat room 10.
Five days later, he publicly invited Ye Nan to an alchemy lecture, surprising classmates who expected another confrontation. He accompanied Ye Nan to third-grade alchemist Wang Pei’s practical demonstration the following day 10 11.
Afterward, Wu Chen explained that a Medicinal Fire Pill cost roughly 100,000 and required alchemy talent to be useful. Despite recognizing Ye Nan’s martial potential, he assumed that such talent meant Ye Nan would achieve little in alchemy 12.
Connecting Ye Nan with the Wu Family
When Zhang Yueshan delivered an exceptional Blood Battle Pill to Wu Kun, Wu Chen recognized the name of its maker as his schoolmate. He learned that Ye Nan possessed remarkable alchemy skills as well as martial strength, overturning his earlier assumption 22 23.
Wu Chen told his family about their combat-room encounter and identified Ye Nan as a member of the Jiangcheng Ye Family. At Wu Kun’s request, he invited Ye Nan to their residence and personally escorted him there. The visit led Wu Kun to approve a partnership contract with the Ye Family’s company 23 24.
College Entrance Exam
Wu Chen scored 2,670 combat power, earning City Lord Sun Wu’s approval and delighting his family. He was poised to become the first Wu Family member admitted to Longqing University 28.
His satisfaction gave way to shock when Wang Lingxi revealed approximately 30,000 combat power and the Junior Martial Master realm. He had pursued her believing their strength gap was manageable. Although he already expected an extraordinary result from Ye Nan, he was still stunned when Ye Nan’s reading reached 60,000 28 29.
Appearance
- A young man approximately Ye Nan’s age, described as fairly good-looking. His confidence in his appearance contributed to his belief that he had a chance with Wang Lingxi 22 29.
Personality
Initially proud and confrontational, Wu Chen treated Ye Nan as an inferior and interpreted his actions toward Wang Lingxi as a challenge. Ye Nan’s refusal to back down angered him enough to attack 9.
His response to defeat was pragmatic rather than vindictive. He abandoned retaliation after recognizing Ye Nan’s potential, reasoning that a good relationship could benefit his family. He also honored Ye Nan’s request for secrecy when questioned by other students, although he later recounted the fight to his family after learning about Ye Nan’s alchemy achievements 10 23.
