Heavenly Ladders

• Manifestation: Hundreds of millions of golden stairways descend across the Three Thousand Worlds when the road becomes real. Two appear among Great Luo’s Three Hundred Stars 10 11.
• Entrance route: Fu Yuan’s staircase has 99,999 steps, ending above the clouds in boundless golden light. The entrance is a teleportation array spanning the Three Thousand Worlds 12.
• Transportation: Fu Yuan’s group waits nine days before the array activates. Teleportation separates him from his companions 12.
• Entry realm: Admission is restricted to Profound Understanding cultivators, also described in the entry passages as Profound Opening cultivators. Some older cultivators sever their realms to qualify; disguising a higher cultivation generally results in expulsion 11.
• Protection: Those climbing the ladders are protected against outside attacks. An Ancient Sage who tried to kill an enemy’s descendant through this protection died immediately from backlash 11.

Internal Conditions

• Exceptional presences: Despite the stated restrictions, Fu Yuan encounters the Ancient Saint known as the Blind Daoist inside the road. The eminent monk Wufo also enters and approaches the Heaven-Ascending Tower 30 31 47.

Layout

The route contains eighteen checkpoints, each serving to eliminate weaker contestants before the true Emperor Road beyond the eighteenth 12.

• Terminology: The tenth pass is also called the beginning of the “true World Road,” distinguishing its unified battlefield from the earlier parallel trials 32.
• Celestial features: Fu Yuan observes a black sun emitting white light and a white crescent moon illuminating the darkness 12 13.
• Increasing danger: The eighteen trials become more dangerous the farther contestants advance 22.

Available Resources

• Cultivation treasures: Bloodline-strengthening medicines, heavenly scriptures, incomplete supreme arts, and broken Dao weapons occur throughout the road 11.
• Early-pass finds: Fu Yuan detects a low-grade spiritual treasure called the Grand Cloud Whip, a Mystical Passage Pill, and a fragmentary Vajra Sutra page in the first pass 13.
• Fifth-pass resources: Dao Comprehension Tea and the Lone Lamp Pavilion’s bloodline- and physique-tempering spiritual fire 14.
• Later-pass resources: Rare metals, medicinal herbs, strange stones, and Soul Heavenly Gold become increasingly frequent and valuable from the tenth trial onward 32.

History

Ancient Origins

Surviving records connect the World Road to the height of the Immortal Dao epoch, when an immortal road appeared at a gathering of ten thousand immortals and scions competed to honor the Immortal Venerable. Much of that history later vanished, leaving only fragments 12.

The road reappeared during the Divine Dao epoch. A Heavenly Venerable attempted to force entry in search of immortal remnants but withdrew for unknown reasons. In the Emperor Dao epoch, the Heavenly Emperor entered and remained for several years; surviving accounts do not describe what he found 12.

Records treated the Heavenly Emperor’s subsequent disappearance as a possible ominous death. Later supreme experts instead linked the road to his departure for distant lands and claimed that another emperor had suffered a fatal calamity because of it 12 24.

Current Manifestation

A phantom of the World Road appeared one hundred years before its full manifestation. When it finally became real, rainbow light crossed the Three Thousand Worlds and golden stairways descended, drawing present-day talents, ancient imperial offspring, and awakened geniuses into the contest 10.

The Mandate of Heaven makes the road especially coveted: since ancient times, almost everyone who obtained it and survived afterward became an emperor 10.

Hidden Powers and Abnormalities

Beings Within the Road

• Immortal survivors: Some inhabitants were once immortal servants who escaped the Immortal Domain’s destruction by hiding within the World Road 21.
• Death of an Immortal King: Their leader sent an incarnation outside to investigate the ruined Immortal Domain. It was instantly destroyed, and his main body perished as well 21.
• Unidentified authority: A hidden being recognizes the Turtle Emperor’s heart-guarding shell, kills its bearer, and seizes it. The being can cut the local Heavenly Ladders off from outside observation 11.
• Fear of a greater presence: During Fu Yuan’s mysterious encounter beyond the Lone Lamp Pavilion, powerful beings on the ancient road are frozen and forced to prostrate themselves 21.

The Spirit Profound Palace Incident

The old palace master of Spirit Profound Palace used a mystic turtle shell to conceal his peak Venerable cultivation. He survived a heavenly saber strike and stepped onto the road, but an unknown power began erasing him. The shell briefly resisted before a great hand crushed him into blood mist 11.

The master of the broken Tribulation Sword attacked the hidden being, causing a clash whose shockwaves destroyed star regions. An emperor intervened and persuaded the sword’s master to withdraw because it was “not yet time” 11.

Disappearing Sites and Corrupting Opportunities

• Earlier failures: During the preceding opening, opportunity sites in several trials vanished. Zhuge Xiao and Zhuge Yi regard the Lone Lamp Pavilion’s disappearance as further evidence that something is wrong 22.
• Soul-flower transformation: Fu Yuan’s discovery in Flower Soul Valley leads him to question whether those who leave the World Road remain the same beings who entered it 25.
• Outside schemes: Supreme experts claim that a powerful figure has negotiated an agreement with the road’s monsters. They plan to force entry after the contest ends 24.
