Background / History
Dugu Baitian is the Heavenly Emperor’s third son. Across nine lifetimes, he repeatedly emerged undefeated, surpassed the limits of his previous incarnations, and walked the Six-Break Path several times. The Heavenly Secrets Pavilion ranked him first among peerless prodigies who had never become emperors 10 22 26 27 30.
His earlier victories included killing the Golden Peng Emperor while only at the seventh level of the Saint Realm. By his ninth lifetime, he had gathered nine lifetimes’ Dao fruits into one body. He stood close to both a fully developed Chaos Physique and an emperor’s Dao fruit, but relinquished that opportunity 26 27 31.
During the middle of the Chaotic Ancient Era, he confronted the newly ascended Heaven-Swallowing Python Emperor as an eighth-level Saint King. The emperor failed to defeat him over half a month and ultimately fled beyond the present world. The Blind Daoist, who witnessed the battle, explicitly confirmed that Dugu Baitian’s Chaos Physique had not reached full development 30 31.
When the World Road appeared in the present age, Dugu Baitian awakened in the ruined small world once called Heavenly Pole. He traced its past and investigated the destruction of Heavenly Court remnants, but stopped when the investigation approached emperor-level karma. The small world’s ability to conceal him had prevented detection; continuing would have destroyed his body. He then took control of his second-life body and departed to seek worthy opponents 10.
Appearance
Dugu Baitian appears as a young man in golden or golden-yellow robes, with golden eyes and an imperial bearing 22 25 46 48.
- Deep-set eyes: Remain fixed on his destination as he crosses the Lost Sea of Light 22.
- Sword carried on his back: Visible while he waits above the tenth checkpoint 25.
- Natural Dao charm: Accompanies his movements even when he releases no discernible aura 25.
- Emperor-like gait: Described as striding with the gait of a dragon and the pace of a tiger 48.
Personality
Dugu Baitian’s confidence rests on repeated victories rather than a desire for public recognition. He ignores opportunities in the Lost Sea of Light, leaves the possessions of slain enemies uncollected, and walks away from the Heaven-Ascending Tower without looking at his first-place ranking 13 22 48.
His central frustration is the absence of worthy rivals. Earlier generations’ strongest prodigies disappointed him, leaving him without friends or opponents on his cultivation path. Fu Yuan’s complete tenth-grade bloodline excites him precisely because it promises a satisfying battle. He likewise openly acknowledges Luo Feng as a terrifying opponent after their draw 22 23 48.
He distinguishes between opponents he wishes to face again and enemies tied to old grudges. He allows Huo Lingxiao to recover during their duel and later spares him, proposing another battle after the Sun Holy Body reaches full development. Against the Golden-Winged Great Peng lineage, however, he rejects surrender, kills the Little Peng Emperor, and threatens the surviving ancestor with extermination 26 28 29.
Abilities & Skills
Chaos Physique and Bodily Refinement
His Chaos Physique supports combat far beyond his cultivation level, including a confrontation with a reigning emperor before the physique reached full development 28 31.
- Every bone has been refined to the standard of a Dao bone; his blood is described as divine, his meridians as spiritually endowed, and his internal organs as flawless 32.
- His seven orifices have reached the acquired, or Houtian, extreme. They approach—but do not equal—innate constitutions such as Double Pupils and the Heavenly Eye 32.
- His accumulated Dao fruits and bodily refinement enable him to overwhelm other supreme physiques without relying on higher cultivation 25 32.
Swordsmanship
Dugu Baitian uses tyrannical sword intent and Sword Qi to dismantle complex techniques with direct attacks 25 27.
- Casually kills more than ten Blood Demon Mountain prodigies within ten breaths 13.
- Repeatedly cleaves apart Huo Lingxiao’s suns and Golden Crow manifestations 25 26.
- Breaks the Sun Holy Body’s Nirvana Spirit Body and wears down its life essence 27 28.
Multiple Selves
He divides himself into independently fighting selves, each following a different Dao rather than merely repeating the same fighting style 27.
- Initially manifests four selves to confront Huo Lingxiao, Su He, Zhou Jingyun, and the Little Peng Emperor simultaneously 27.
- One self emphasizes blood Qi, another Dao principles and Chaos Qi, and another transforms into a Kunpeng 27.
- The completed battle reveals nine selves fighting on nine battlefields; all nine opposing imperial scions are defeated 29.
Nine Dao Mountain
A suppression technique that transforms his great hand into a nine-colored divine mountain. Each color represents a Great Dao, with all nine combining into one attack 29.
- Historically associated with the saying, “Nine Dao Mountain suppressed the Golden Peng Emperor” 29.
- Overwhelms the Little Peng Emperor’s ancestral Saint heart feather, which operates at seventh-level Nirvana power under the World Road’s restrictions 29.
- Its recognizable form exposes his connection to the Heavenly Court and Chaos Saint Emperor 29.
Bloodline Spirit
His bloodline spirit manifests as a golden dragon and phoenix carrying an imperial Dao sword; it embodies both his bloodline and his Dao 23.
- The sword displays nine dazzling colors, with a unique tenth color forming at its tip 23.
- Its instinctive fear alerts him to the superiority of Fu Yuan’s newly completed tenth-grade bloodline 23.
Dao Mastery
The Blind Daoist considers his understanding of the Dao comparable to an emperor’s and states that he can create imperial techniques 31.
- Has reached the Saint Realm in several lifetimes and repeatedly followed the Six-Break Path 23 30.
- Uses open, straightforward techniques against Su He. Although Double Pupils can perceive those techniques, Su He still cannot reliably counter them 28.
- Can trace past events, but remains vulnerable to the consequences of emperor-level karma 10.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sword — Carried on his back at the tenth checkpoint; no weapon name or grade is provided 25.
Relationships
- Heavenly Emperor — Father. Dugu Baitian is his third son and an heir of the Heavenly Court he founded 10 23 29.
- Fu Yuan — Prospective rival. Dugu Baitian senses his complete tenth-grade bloodline and declares that he will await him at the tenth trial. Fu Yuan later seeks information about Dugu Baitian’s historical emperor battle 23 31.
- Luo Feng — Acknowledged equal in their recorded encounter. Their battle ends without a winner because settling it would require a fight to the death 48.
- Huo Lingxiao — Defeated opponent whom he spares in anticipation of a rematch against the fully developed Sun Holy Body 28.
- Golden-Winged Great Peng lineage — Longstanding enemies of the Heavenly Court. Dugu Baitian claims to have killed the surviving ancestor’s three elder brothers and threatens to destroy the lineage after leaving the World Road 28 29.
- Ao Jue — Publicly challenges him after hearing of the tenth-checkpoint victory 31.
- Jian Wushuang — Searches for him to determine the strongest sword cultivator 31.
- Mo Tao — Seeks to hunt him, attempts to recruit Fu Yuan into an alliance against him, and later expresses a desire to devour him 31 39 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early World Road
- Third pass: Blood Demon Mountain prodigies attempt to seize his celestite. He annihilates them, gives his name, and leaves observers speculating about his Dugu imperial ancestry 13.
- Lost Sea of Light: Ignores opportunities while advancing toward the eighth trial. He destroys attacking Nirvana beasts and the seventh-layer Nirvana black flood dragon ruling their waters 22.
- Fu Yuan’s bloodline breakthrough: Initially suspects an eleventh-layer cultivation breakthrough, then recognizes a complete tenth-grade bloodline and issues his invitation to the tenth trial 23.
Battle Against Nine Imperial Scions
- Begins by confronting Huo Lingxiao at the tenth-checkpoint gateway, then expands the battle as more imperial scions arrive 25 27.
- Defeats all nine opponents through his multiple selves. Eight survive; the Little Peng Emperor is killed after surrendering and invoking an ancestral protective feather 29.
- His revealed identity transforms the victory into a sensation across the Tenth Pass, with Xuanyuzi and Zhuge Wudao identifying him as the historical Chaos Saint Emperor 30.
Luo Feng and the Heaven-Ascending Tower
- Encounters Luo Feng in a secret realm and fights across a hundred thousand li, destroying mountain peaks and leaving immense craters. Xuanyuzi’s account establishes that this was a genuine struggle, unlike his overwhelming checkpoint victory 46.
- Takes first place on the Heaven-Ascending Tower’s Golden Ranking, then confirms that his battle with Luo Feng ended in a draw 48.
- Luo Feng subsequently ranks third. Su He cautions that the tower prohibits weapons, formations, and talismans, so placement does not conclusively determine the outcome of a real battle 48.
