| Acquired — nine-star reward | 21 | Fu Yuan obtains Double Pupils by checking in at Solitude Pavilion Summit (True). His first special check-in also triggers a second nine-star reward, the Immortal Bone. |
| Activation completed | 22 | Double Pupils and the Immortal Bone finish activating. During their activation, Fu Yuan advances through the eighth and ninth layers of Mystical Passage and breaks into the tenth. Possessing these alongside the Myriad Tribulations Indestructible Physique, he also attains a complete tenth-grade bloodline. |
History
The earliest recorded bearer was Chong Er, the Human Emperor of the Mythical Era. At the peak of the Saint Emperor realm, he fought a Great Emperor. After becoming a Great Emperor himself, he killed that opponent, making him one of the few recorded figures to have slain a Great Emperor. Double Pupils consequently carried a reputation for invincibility, with innate bearers said to have swept aside their peers without defeat 19.
During the World Road trials, the white-robed bearer later identified as Su He examined the Lone Lamp Pavilion’s ancient formation. He perceived its black lotus and Divine Fire but could not determine the special medium required to activate it. When Fu Yuan’s tenth-grade bloodline emerged, Su He sensed the extraordinary presence and remained confident that Double Pupils would remain undefeated in the present age 20 23 26.
That reputation did not prevent Su He’s defeat by Dugu Baitian at the tenth trial. Su He could see through his opponent’s techniques, yet could not withstand them. He later placed thirty-eighth on the Heaven-Ascending Tower’s Golden Ranking; observers continued to acknowledge his strength despite the earlier loss 28 47.
Appearance
- Paired pupils: Each eye contains two pupils, visibly identifying an unconcealed bearer 22 28.
- Fu Yuan’s manifestation: His golden eyes contain flowing chaos Qi and display imagery resembling the birth and dissolution of small worlds 22.
- Runic activity: Mysterious runes intertwine within Fu Yuan’s eyes when he examines concealed phenomena 32 35.
- Concealment: Fu Yuan shields his eyes with spiritual power, enough to prevent almost everyone from recognizing his Double Pupils. The Old Blind Man nevertheless perceives their extraordinary nature 32.
Abilities & Skills
Perception of Daos and Techniques
Double Pupils are said to see through the myriad Daos and all arts, making them valuable for both comprehension and combat analysis 19.
- Technique analysis: Su He sees through Dugu Baitian’s arts even while being suppressed by them 28.
- Physique identification: Su He recognizes Dugu Baitian’s Chaos Physique, although examining him places some strain on his eyes 27.
- Sword-intent comprehension: Fu Yuan uses Double Pupils while studying Sword Heart Mountain’s intangible sword intents. He comprehends the Five Elements Sword Intent in half a day 26.
- Formation analysis: Fu Yuan locates the first core of the Three-Demon Formation, allowing his Imperial Dao Sword Qi to destroy its soul-bewitching layer 37.
- Hidden inscriptions: At maximum exertion, Fu Yuan barely discerns the ancient “Suppress” character on the Soul Heavenly Gold. Studying it leads him into enlightenment and enables him to reproduce its suppressive effects 35.
Detection of Hidden Changes
The eyes reveal subtle alterations to souls, bodies, and life essence that other powerful cultivators fail to notice 25.
- Soul-flower corruption: In Flower Soul Valley, Fu Yuan detects changes spreading through cultivators’ souls, flesh, and blood Qi after they refine the flowers. Even Holy Sons and pureblood creatures remain unaware of the danger 25.
- Life-origin replacement: He observes a black tiger’s altered life origin and a strange red flower, recognizing that the apparent cultivation opportunity gradually corrodes and replaces its users 25.
- Internal parasites: After Zhu Yan dies, Fu Yuan sees small black worms consuming its life essence within its heart and Qi Sea 39.
- Linked lives: He observes the twin black foxes merge into a single two-headed, eight-legged creature whose lives are joined together 33.
- Treasure location: He searches an underground ocean with Double Pupils and detects the faint white light associated with the Soul Heavenly Gold 34.
Purification and Regional Isolation
Double Pupils are described as the bane of sinister and unholy things. Fu Yuan demonstrates this offensive property against Mo Tao’s escaping avatar 40.
- Demonic-Qi eradication: Golden light from his eyes destroys the scattered demonic Qi composing the avatar, wiping it out within a few breaths 40.
- Escape prevention: Mo Tao’s dissolution into countless wisps of black Qi fails to evade the light 40.
- Communication cutoff: Revealing Double Pupils cuts off the surrounding region, preventing the avatar from warning Mo Tao’s true body 40.
Limitations and Comparisons
| Aspect | Documented Qualification |
|---|---|
| Perception is not victory | Su He can understand Dugu Baitian’s attacks without being able to block or resist them 28. |
| Obscured vision | The mist surrounding the Soul Heavenly Gold’s valley restricts Fu Yuan’s sight to a few hundred meters, even with Double Pupils 32. |
| Difficult targets | Dugu Baitian’s Chaos Physique strains Su He’s perception, while the hidden “Suppress” character is barely visible to Fu Yuan at maximum exertion 27 35. |
| Formation layers | Destroying the Three-Demon Formation’s first core reveals a second confinement layer; the initial breakthrough does not dismantle the entire formation 37. |
| Acquired ocular arts | Zhuge Lingfeng considers the Qi-Gazing Technique incomparable to innate constitutions such as Double Pupils. Later, the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion’s Heaven-Surveying Technique, paired with Yin-Yang Eyes, is said potentially to rival Double Pupils and the Heavenly Eye in certain respects 19 49. |
