Background / History

Song Qi became renowned throughout the Eastern Region for his extraordinary talent and swordsmanship while still the Eight Gods Pavilion’s young pavilion master. He challenged the young masters of the other four immortal sects in succession and won the affection of the young palace master of the Clear Bathing Palace. Finding the Eastern Region insufficiently challenging, he traveled to the Central Province to temper himself 41.

During Song Qi’s absence, his martial uncle Cangsong accepted Su Mingyue and Bai Junhao as disciples, hoping they could eventually catch up with him. Song Qi returned from the Central Province several decades before the battle on the Azure Seclusion Plain and inherited leadership of the Eight Gods Pavilion 41 45.

After becoming pavilion master, Song Qi rarely fought publicly. Twenty years before the Azure Seclusion Plain battle, he destroyed the body of a demonic Nascent Soul Early Stage elder in ten moves, although the elder’s Nascent Soul escaped 41.

Personality

Song Qi combines a relaxed, teasing manner with demanding expectations. He laughs at the young Qin Yi struggling to wield Cangyuan, leaves while humming a leisurely tune, and tells his disciple to mention his master’s name after defeating other geniuses. His confidence also appears in battle: he calmly lectures Bai Junhao on swordsmanship while preparing to destroy his attack 6 41.

His affection for his disciples does not make their training easy. He assigns Qin Yi hunts far above an ordinary Qi Refining cultivator’s capabilities, then privately admits surprise when Qin Yi completes them. Nevertheless, he prepares cultivation resources in advance, monitors breakthroughs, and supplies protective equipment 10 24 25.

Song Qi wants Qin Yi to look beyond the Eastern Region rather than remain satisfied with local success. He supports Cangsong’s demand that Qin Yi reach Golden Core within ten years and lead the pavilion’s disciples into war, promising to provide the resources needed 46.

His judgment of Bai Junhao is more nuanced than his public description of him as a traitor suggests. Although he calls Bai Junhao Cangsong’s “treacherous disciple” during their confrontation, he later tells Qin Yi that the events behind Bai Junhao’s punishment were never Bai Junhao’s fault 41 46.
