Background / History
Childhood and the Chaotic Ancient Inheritance
Wang Teng was the young lord of the Northern Plains Wang Family. Chosen in childhood by a representative of an ancient lineage, he received the Chaotic Ancient Great Emperor’s inheritance. His extraordinary opportunities helped establish his reputation as the Northern Emperor 111.
| Age | Recorded experience |
|---|---|
| Five | Danced with a flood dragon in a deep pool 111. |
| Seven | Entered the Northern Region’s Ancient Divine Lake alone and obtained a golden ancient war chariot 111. |
| Nine | Entered Ancient Emperor Mountain and brought out the Chaotic Ancient Divine Talisman and Heavenly Emperor Sacred Sword 111. |
| Twelve | Fell into the Divine Phoenix Cave and obtained Undying Divine Phoenix Blood 111. |
He defeated the Northern Plains’ challengers and gained recognition throughout the Five Regions. Admirers called him an ancient emperor’s reincarnation, while his standing allowed him to draw extensively on the Wang Clan’s resources. Nevertheless, he lacked the Chaotic Ancient lineage’s Extreme Dao Emperor Weapon, which remained inaccessible within its inheritance site 31 177 181 198 388.
Defeat and Subjugation by Su Yu
Wang Teng interrupted his planned breakthrough to pursue Ye Fan’s Black-Yellow Source Root. He initially offered to spare Ye Fan a battle if he surrendered it, partly out of consideration for the Peacock King and the Green Lotus Dynasty. Ye Fan refused, and the confrontation escalated into a pursuit involving the Wang Clan’s Saint Weapons 180 181.
Su Yu intervened under the identity of Cao Yusheng. Wang Teng used the Heaven-Chaos Secret Art to banish him into spatial abysses, but Su Yu escaped with nine-colored Divine Flame. Wang Teng’s incomplete Self-Severing Dao-Enlightenment Art then backfired, leaving both his body and soul severely injured 181 182 183.
Although Wang Teng initially accepted the result of their fair fight, the subsequent deaths of his clansmen, his failed escape, and Su Yu’s Devouring Heaven Demon Seed destabilized his Dao heart. A crane-shaped protective light awakened his true spirit, allowing him to destroy the seed, but he could not resist Su Yu’s Emperor Weapon or the Emperor Qi Thought Restriction 183 184 185 186.
Su Yu took his inheritance and talisman, then returned his weapons, supplied Divine Spring water, and transmitted imperial scriptures and secret arts. Wang Teng departed with his clansmen’s remains, outwardly subdued but determined to avenge his humiliation 185 186.
The Illusory Lifetime
Wang Teng sought Old Crane’s help against the restriction, only for Su Yu to expose the attempt. A further same-realm defeat left him questioning whether he still had any future on the emperor’s path 198 205 206.
Su Yu then used the Wushi Secret Art and a Bodhi Tree phenomenon to make him experience an alternate life without Su Yu. Within this constructed illusion, Wang Teng suffered defeats involving Yu Tuo and An Lan, faced Ao Sheng’s attempted possession, lost his family, and ultimately died. These events were not established as occurrences in the main timeline 206 207.
The experience transformed his divine sense and shook his attachment to personal invincibility. Afterward, Su Yu drew the Emperor Qi Thought Restriction out of his sea of consciousness. Wang Teng nevertheless remained intent on surpassing Su Yu and the Undying Heavenly Emperor at equal cultivation 207 209.
Campaigns on Ziwei
Wang Teng joined the expedition to Ziwei despite injuries sustained against the Heavenly Emperor Dao Stele’s illusions. He volunteered to confront the Golden Crow princes, whose clan had killed descendants of the Holy Emperor of the Sun 214 215 217 218.
At the Ziwei Divine Dynasty’s capital, he challenged multiple Great Powers and fought the dynasty lord with Saint Weapons. The dynasty lord ultimately suppressed him, frustrating his attempt to prove himself before Su Yu and Xiang Yufei. He later accepted an imperial token and led the dynasty’s cavalry toward the Human King Hall 219 220 222 236.
Acclaimed as Palace Master Beichen, he killed a Human King Hall Great Power and repeatedly engaged its deputy hall master. His battles also exposed his limits: the Longevity Temple’s master overpowered him without Saint Weapons, and a later encirclement forced him to use Su Yu’s dragon Qi talisman 246 260 288.
When Saint King Jin Ming captured him, Wang Teng refused to submit even under lethal pressure. His resistance shattered his phoenix-blood body against the Saint King’s Tai Shi laws 292.
Demon Embryo and Apparent Death
During his travels on Ziwei, Wang Teng obtained Great Saint-level Divine Phoenix Blood. He also tried to save a dying azure snake spirit with Divine Spring water, then offered the blood to Medicine Saint Bi Zhan when the latter refused to release her. Su Yu ultimately exchanged part of a Medicine King for the snake 345.
Wang Teng’s later Demon Embryo transformation extinguished his soul lamp, leading the Wang Clan to believe him dead. Wang Kong’s faction appropriated resources he had left behind and persecuted his immediate family. Su Yu’s avatar Shi Ming intervened, revealed that Wang Teng was alive, and left the remaining reckoning for Wang Teng himself 388 389 390 391.
Sainthood and Later Years
After mastering the Chaotic Ancient Scripture and completely refining the Demon Embryo, Wang Teng became a Saint. He returned to Big Dipper and narrowly lost an above-realm battle against the Human World assassin organization’s Ninth Heaven Saint King progenitor. He then killed an Ancient Clan Saint King, earning recognition as the seventh Young Emperor, Beichen 442.
He subsequently advanced along the Starry Sky Ancient Road and was later shown as a Quasi-Emperor alongside Xiang Yufei. In the restored world’s later golden age, he awakened to meet returning Supremes. His stated purpose was no longer to seize the ultimate Dao throne, but to fight and temper his Dao Fruit 469 675 710 711.
Appearance
- Build and bearing: Handsome, tall, and imposing, frequently compared to an ancient emperor or divine king 180 186 207 219.
- Hair and eyes: Black hair; deep eyes containing manifestations of stars appearing, shattering, and reforming 180 181.
- Clothing: Appears in white robes, dark-gold battle armor, black-gold battle robes, and cold-iron battle robes 186 219 237 288.
- Cultivation manifestations: Golden radiance and thirty-six Immortal Spirits, commonly expressed as nine True Dragons, nine Divine Phoenixes, nine White Tigers, and nine Black Tortoises 182 219 442.
- Heavenly Eye: A faint silver light between his brows marks his cultivated Heavenly Eye 181.
Personality
Wang Teng begins as aloof, supremely confident, and accustomed to defeating other prodigies. He considers possession of the Black-Yellow Source Root a fitting beginning to his emperor’s road and initially regards the developing Sacred Body as beneath him 180 182 210.
His pride includes a commitment to acknowledging genuine defeat. After losing to Su Yu, he rejects the temptation to excuse himself by imagining a different outcome through weapons and collective attacks. Yet captivity and his clansmen’s deaths reveal fear, guilt, and a vulnerability to demonic thoughts beneath that confidence 183 184 185.
His submission to Su Yu develops from coercion into reluctant acceptance and admiration. Watching Su Yu destroy powerful enemies gradually erodes his resistance, although his desire to surpass him remains. Against Jin Ming, that same pride becomes open defiance: he accepts the possibility of death rather than serve another captor 209 243 292 345.
He also shows concern beyond his own ambitions. He tries to preserve his uncle’s life, volunteers against the Golden Crows for their crimes against an imperial bloodline, and spends precious medicine attempting to save the azure snake spirit 182 215 345.
