Background / History

Mondstadt’s Fallen Protector

Dvalin once protected Mondstadt as the Dragon of the East Wind and was an old friend of Venti. By the time Wei Zhenzu joined the Knights’ investigation, he was known as Stormterror and regarded by Varka as the city’s greatest threat 4 10 26 30.

The Abyss Order maintained a secret base beneath Stormterror’s Lair and plotted to control him. A Golden Bough lodged in his back introduced power foreign to Teyvat’s ley lines; its energy also transformed Abyss Mages into monsters and overwhelmed their shields 15.

Battle at Stormterror’s Lair

Wei Zhenzu and Varka reached the tower to find a gravely wounded Kaeya besieged by monsters. Above them, Dvalin prepared Stormterror’s Breath to destroy the platform. Wei activated Venti’s Anemo mark, briefly awakening Dvalin’s remaining reason and interrupting the attack. The resulting backlash brought the dragon crashing down 23.

Wei then played the Holy Lyre der Himmel. Its purifying wind weakened the Abyssal aura and exposed the Golden Bough, but it did not remove the poison embedded in Dvalin’s body. Dvalin relapsed into madness and accused the Knights of turning their swords against their former shield 23 24.

Using the Yi Sang - Index Proselyte Lioen Identity, Wei coordinated Varka and Kaeya through the Oracle Terminal. Their timed assault broke Dvalin’s elemental defenses, allowing Wei to reach his back and tear out the Golden Bough 24 25 26.

Distortion and Destruction

The extraction did not end the crisis. A hidden force within the poisonous blood erupted into whispers and haze, reshaping Dvalin into the Final Judgment Heavenly Demon. His resentment at being forgotten became a demand to judge Mondstadt 26 27.

The distorted Dvalin incapacitated Kaeya through mental erosion and battered both Varka and Wei. Varka later broke part of his judgment mask, while Vergilius severed his bone noose and opened a deep wound in his abdomen. Dvalin retaliated with Final Judgment: Fallen Sky, trapping his opponents beneath a descending sphere of poisonous energy 27 30.

Wei completed the Oracle Terminal’s ninth protocol and unleashed Furioso-Requiem Mass-Crescendo. The finishing hammer strike destroyed Dvalin, his judgment formation, and the poisonous-blood meteor, at the cost of Wei’s right arm 31.

Soul Remnant and Containment

Only a faint cyan remnant of Dvalin’s consciousness remained after his core shattered. Venti apologized to his old friend and played the Holy Lyre der Himmel in farewell. The remnant circled him twice before dissolving into the winds of Mondstadt 32.

A later visit to the containment units revealed that the system had intercepted his last soul remnant after the core’s destruction. Its projection existed as a gentle cyan breeze, entirely free of frenzy and the Abyssal curse. Touching the containment glass triggered Golden Bough resonance and unlocked three new Hell’s Kitchen abilities for Wei: Concept Cooking, Gluttony Hunt, and Cookware Liberation 40.

Appearance

Dragon Form

• Body: An enormous, long-bodied dragon with teal or cyan scales and slit pupils 23 24.
• Corruption: Black-purple poisonous veins spread across his scales, with a throbbing clot of Abyssal blood surrounding the Golden Bough on his back 23.
• Wings: Three pairs, subsequently transformed by Distortion 27.

Final Judgment Heavenly Demon

• Judgement Mask: A huge, pale, featureless mask with three vertically aligned hollows glowing violet 27.
• Balance beams: Bony crossbeams extend from the mask, carrying weights formed from congealed poisonous blood 27.
• Wings: Charred wood and torn bandages replace his rotted wings. Guillotine blades line their edges, while countless bird eyes open between the bandages 27.
• Chest: An enormous set of scales made from dark red poisonous blood and pale bone is embedded in his flesh 27.

Personality

Dvalin’s corrupted speech centers on betrayal and abandonment. He remembers being Mondstadt’s shield and cannot reconcile that role with the Knights attacking him. As the Heavenly Demon, he interprets his suffering through guilt, punishment, and supposedly impartial judgment, ultimately threatening to make Mondstadt’s people suffer 24 26 27 30.

His former attachments are not entirely erased. Venti’s presence briefly restores his reason during the battle, and his departing soul gives the bard a final affectionate farewell. Once contained without the curse, his remnant is nonaggressive and calming 23 32 40.

Anemo and Storm Manipulation

• Stormterror’s Breath: Compresses surrounding winds into a destructive sphere within his mouth, intended to annihilate the tower platform 23.
• Poisonous wind blades: Converts black poisonous mist into enormous blades capable of pulverizing rubble 24.
• Storm barrier: Raises a dense gale carrying poisoned blood to repel attackers 25.
• Physical force: A struggle against his bound claw produces enough pulling force to overturn city walls 24.

Abyssal Corruption and Defenses

• Combined shielding: Poisonous Abyssal blood and the Golden Bough form a defense that Kaeya’s Cryo cannot affect 23.
• Poison-blood spikes: The clot on his back launches spikes at the exhausted Kaeya 26.
• Incomplete purification: The Holy Lyre weakens his aura and soothes him temporarily, but leaves the deeply embedded poison intact 23 24.
• Vulnerability to Venti’s authority: Recognition of his old friend interrupts his attack and destabilizes the energy gathered in his throat 23.

Heavenly Demon: Mental Erosion

• Mental assault: His distorted form overwhelms Kaeya’s consciousness, leaving him unconscious 27.
• Dangerous eyes: Wei warns his allies not to look directly into the transformed Dvalin’s eyes 26.
• Mental shock: A retaliatory shock blasts Varka away after he strikes the violet hollow in the judgment mask 30.

Heavenly Demon: Judgment Attacks

• Final Judgment Storm: Breaks through Varka’s gale and hurls him into a wall 27.

• Venti / Barbatos — Old friend. Venti’s authority briefly reaches Dvalin through his madness; after the battle, he apologizes and sings the dragon farewell 10 23 32.
• Wei Zhenzu — Opponent who removes the Golden Bough and destroys his distorted body. Wei later encounters his peaceful soul projection in containment 26 31 40.
