Future timeline.
After the dust and smoke had completely settled, the Angel God and the Rakshasa God finally regained their footing.
The two exchanged a glance.
"Rakshasa God, you bitch!" The Angel God's voice was shrill, with none of her former holiness and nobility. "Was it you? Were you the one who repeatedly interfered with the lower realm and brought down divine punishment?!"
"Bullshit!" The Rakshasa God's voice was just as icy as she glared at her with phoenix eyes. "I was about to ask you the same thing! You sanctimonious thing, were you the one pulling strings behind the scenes?!"
"Stop spewing slander!" The Angel God pointed a finger in the Rakshasa God's face. "You, the Rakshasa God, preside over slaughter and evil. You're always tempting the beings of the lower realm into making blood sacrifices and offerings. Haven't you done enough of that? If divine punishment doesn't come for you, who else would it come for?"
"Heh-" The Rakshasa God sneered, folding her arms with a mocking look. "Blood sacrifices? Everything I arranged was done willingly by beings of the lower realm. The Divine Realm's iron laws have no say in it! But you..."
"To let a descendant of your Qian Family inherit your divine position, you must have gone so easy on that little girl you turned the waters into an ocean!"
"Otherwise, how could a little girl who only knew how to cry have inherited a divine position so easily?!"
"You..." The Angel God's face flushed red in an instant.
"Did I hit the mark?"
"I didn't, it was you..."
"It was you..."
The two deities who had once stood so high above everyone else pointed fingers in each other's faces and traded insults on the soil of Douluo Continent, dust billowing all around them. Their words grew fouler and their argument fiercer.
The Angel God's holy, flawless face turned scarlet, with none of the dignity befitting an Angel God left. With her hands on her hips as she glared at the Rakshasa God, she looked little better than a street shrew.
The Rakshasa God could no longer keep her cold, beautiful face composed either. Killing intent flooded her phoenix eyes, and her purple hair whipped wildly in the wind. If her cultivation hadn't been reduced to zero, she would probably have blasted the Angel God with Rakshasa Divine Power long ago.
By the end of their shouting match, the two goddesses who had once stood so high above everyone else came to blows.
Though they had lost their powers and couldn't use Soul Skills, they both knew a little hand-to-hand fighting.
The Angel God seized the Rakshasa God by the collar, and the Rakshasa God grabbed the Angel God's hair in return. The two goddesses, who had once both stood among the Divine Realm's greatest beings, were now locked in a brawl on a wasteland in Douluo Continent.
"Let go!"
"You let go first!"
"You bitch!"
"You vicious hag!"
"You're the one who brought down divine punishment!"
"You're the one who brought it down!"
"This..."
Wu Wei stared at the spectacular scene before him, utterly dumbfounded.
He truly hadn't expected the Rakshasa God and the Angel God, two goddesses, to fight like a pair of shrews.
"Tsk, tsk!"
"Spectacular!"
Wu Wei promptly sat down to one side, pulled some melon seeds from his pocket, and began cracking them.
Past timeline.
Beneath the sky screen, everyone was dumbstruck.
Flender's mouth hung open. His glasses had fallen to the ground at some point, but he hadn't even thought to pick them up.
"This... these are deities?"
"The Angel God and the Rakshasa God... are fighting?"
Dai Mubai's eyes widened, and his mouth formed a great big "O."
"They... they're beating each other up?" Oscar pushed up his crooked glasses, a vacant look on his face. "Deities actually do this?"
"This is the first time I've ever seen deities fight..." Ma Hongjun murmured, forgetting even to wipe away his drool.
Ning Rongrong covered her face, unable to bear watching.
Xiao Wu hugged Tang San's arm, her eyes sparkling. "Brother, they fight even more fiercely than the Soul Beasts in our Star Dou Great Forest!"
Tang San didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Xiao Wu, that's not the point..."
Zhu Zhuqing spoke up, a rare occurrence. "So... divine punishment descended because they repeatedly interfered with the lower realm?"
At those words, everyone suddenly realized.
Beneath the sky screen, countless people, though still dumbstruck, quickly came to the same realization.
"Wait, so divine punishment came down because deities repeatedly interfered with the lower realm?"
"The Angel God and the Rakshasa God are blaming each other. Who knows if it was really them..."
"No wonder the sky screen showed us these scenes. It wanted to tell us the reason!"
Spirit Hall, the Pope's Hall.
Bibi Dong sat on her throne, the corner of her mouth twitching slightly as she watched the Angel God and the Rakshasa God grapple on the sky screen.
"Repeatedly interfered with the lower realm..." Her voice was low, as though she were chewing over the words. "So the divine punishment in the future came down because certain deities couldn't keep themselves in check."
So the root of the problem wasn't with them, but in the Divine Realm.
"Heh." A cold smile curled Bibi Dong's lips. "I knew it. Why would divine punishment descend for no reason? So it was because some deities couldn't keep themselves in check, dragging the entire lower realm down with them."
But after her cold laugh, Bibi Dong immediately fell silent.
If it had been some other reason, she could still have found a way to stop it.
But the root of the problem lay with certain deities in the Divine Realm, and there was nothing she could do.
Qian Daoliu knelt in the air above the Worship Hall, watching the Angel God and the Rakshasa God claw at each other on the sky screen. He no longer knew what expression to wear.
The Angel God he believed in was now pulling the Rakshasa God's hair, her mouth full of curses.
The divine ancestor he had worshipped all his life now looked like a shrew.
Qian Daoliu's faith shattered even more completely than before.
"Divine ancestor..." he murmured, his voice unbelievably hoarse. "How... how could you..."
He couldn't go on.
Meanwhile, at the heart of the Divine Realm.
The Angel God and the Rakshasa God's faces darkened as they watched their future selves wrestle on the ground and hurl insults at each other on the sky screen.
The Angel God's fists were clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. Her face was livid, and she was trembling all over.
"In the future... I, in the future... actually..."
She couldn't get the words out.
As the Angel God, when had she ever disgraced herself like this?
And before all the gods, before every living being on Douluo Continent, at that.
Her future self was rolling on the ground with the Rakshasa God like a shrew.
"Rakshasa God!" The Angel God whipped around to look at the Rakshasa God, gritting her teeth. "Look what you've done!"
"What I've done?" The Rakshasa God sneered, her phoenix eyes full of cold light. "You're the one who struck first on the sky screen! You pulled my hair first!"
"You're the one who cursed me first!"
"You're the one who slandered me first!"
"You-"
"Enough!" The Asura God spoke in a deep voice, interrupting them.
If he didn't speak up now, he was worried the two women would start fighting here too.
He glanced at the Angel God and the Rakshasa God without expression. "The sky screen has already revealed the truth. Divine punishment was caused by deities repeatedly interfering with the lower realm. Rather than blaming each other here, you should think about what to do about the future."
The Angel God and the Rakshasa God both fell silent, but sparks still flew when their eyes met.
"I couldn't possibly be the one who interfered with the lower realm in the future!"
"At most, I only went a little easy on my own descendant during the divine trials. Anything else is absolutely impossible!"
The Angel God added another remark.
"It couldn't possibly be me either!"
The Rakshasa God smiled coldly.
"Shut up and keep watching, and we'll find out whether it was you two!"
"If it was you, even if the future hasn't happened yet, you can still expect to be punished!"
The Asura God gave a cold snort.
