"Brother, I'm hungry!"
Lu Fei stared at the lunchboxes in his hands, his eyes shining and his Adam's apple bobbing. He looked pleadingly at Lu Yu.
Lu Yu was startled. He hadn't noticed it before, but now that Lu Fei had mentioned it, his own stomach rumbled in protest.
"All right, let's find somewhere with fewer people to eat!" Lu Yu said, ruffling Lu Fei's greasy hair.
Lu Fei nodded and skipped toward the city gate. Lu Yu silently wiped his hand on his clothes, looking utterly done with life. His clothes were even greasier than Lu Fei's hair.
Don't ask why he didn't wash them or whether the body's original owner had been a slob. The answer was that if he washed them, he'd have nothing to wear.
Damn, after we eat, we'd better buy a couple of changes of clothes first! I'm a transmigrator, after all. I can't make transmigrators lose face, can I?
Thinking this, Lu Yu patted the fifty Copper Soul Coins Su Yuntao had given him, tucked against his chest, and smiled.
Who said our Brother Tao was a blind-eyed God King? Look, he even invested in trash like me, with only innate level-one Soul Power. Brother Tao has been so good to us. I can't let him spend his money and do all the work too, can I?
Lu Yu looked around for a place to settle down and fill their stomachs, while also wondering how to repay Su Yuntao in the future. Should he give him a Soul Bone, or help Brother Tao obtain a high-age Soul Ring?
Lu Yu had never thought he would lose. In the Douluo I timeline, he could pluck a few Immortal Herbs at random and make a god out of anyone.
But Lu Yu was still very weak now. He needed to lie low and develop first, preferably far away from Tang San, where he would be safer. Tang Hao was watching from the shadows the whole time!
He didn't want Tang Hao to think he might pose a threat to Tang San and snuff him out in the cradle.
"Hey, Xiao Fei! Let's eat over there."
Lu Yu called out to the skipping Lu Fei and pointed toward a tea stall a short distance ahead and to their left.
"Okay, Brother!" Lu Fei nodded and rushed excitedly toward the tea stall, clutching the lunchboxes tightly to his chest.
In the blink of an eye, Lu Fei had sat down at an empty table. He eagerly opened the paper bag and took out the lunchboxes and chopsticks.
Without even checking whether Lu Yu had arrived, he opened a lunchbox, ready to dig in. The faint aroma of food drifting from it had long since captivated him, body and soul.
Looking at the fist-sized chicken leg and two pieces of fatty meat in the lunchbox, Lu Fei swallowed involuntarily. All his life, he had only ever gotten a bowl of meat broth with a sheen of oil floating on it at the end of the year.
Even then, he would take one sip and save the rest to heat up the next day. Now, with so much meat suddenly before him, Lu Fei didn't know where to start.
"What are you looking at? Weren't you hungry?" Lu Yu had walked up behind Lu Fei at some point and was watching him curiously as he sat there motionless.
Could it be that Brother Tao's lunchbox is full of some kind of dark cuisine? Is Lu Fei too scared to eat it? he wondered.
Lu Yu had seen Lu Fei pick up a steamed bun that had fallen on the ground, pat it off, and stuff it straight into his mouth. He hadn't cared about the dirt stuck to it, looking as though he was afraid someone would snatch it from him.
"Brother, this..." Lu Fei turned to look at Lu Yu, his heart full of shock and uncertainty.
Lu Yu glanced at the food in the lunchbox. There was a fist-sized chicken leg, two pieces of fatty meat, and some greens, with white rice packed to the brim underneath.
Lu Yu understood at once why Lu Fei had been so slow to eat. He was probably thinking of saving it for later again.
Lu Yu smiled calmly and patted Lu Fei on the shoulder. "Go on and eat. We're Soul Masters now. We'll never go hungry again."
Lu Fei nodded firmly and said no more. He lowered his head and began shoveling rice from the lunchbox into his mouth, but he didn't touch the chicken leg or the fatty meat. He only picked up the greens, coated them in meat juices, and stuffed them into his mouth.
Even so, a satisfied expression appeared on Lu Fei's face.
Watching Lu Fei wolf down his food, Lu Yu shook his head and called to the attendant behind the tea counter, "Boss, two bowls of tea."
When Lu Fei had first run over and sat down, the tea stall attendant had wanted to drive the "little beggar" away, but the gray-haired old man behind the tea counter had stopped him.
"Old Master Xu, why don't we just leave it at that? You've already been very kind letting the two of them eat here. Anyone else would have driven them away long ago."
The attendant glanced at Lu Yu but ignored him, turning instead to the old man beside him, who was smiling as he watched the two brothers.
"Who hasn't fallen on hard times? It's just two bowls of tea. How many coins could they be worth? Take them over!"
The attendant shook his head helplessly. He had just turned to fetch the tea when the old man raised a hand to stop him.
"Wait. Take four steamed buns over too. Just look how skinny those two boys are."
Hearing this, the attendant opened his mouth, not knowing what to say. He sighed and did as he was told, bringing the two brothers two bowls of water and four steamed buns.
"Wait, I didn't order any buns." Lu Yu looked at the buns on the plate, then gave the attendant a puzzled look.
The attendant curled his lip, indignation in his eyes. "Take them. We're not charging you. Old Master Xu took pity on you two, so he's giving them to you."
With that, the attendant ignored Lu Yu and turned to leave. Lu Yu was taken aback. He looked up at the old man behind the tea counter and nodded to him gratefully.
Lu Fei looked at the four steamed buns on the plate, then at the chicken leg and fatty meat in his lunchbox. Gritting his teeth, he picked up the chicken leg and moved it toward Lu Yu's lunchbox.
"What are you doing?" Lu Yu looked at Lu Fei in confusion.
"Brother, you eat it. Your injury hasn't healed yet. I can just eat the buns." As he spoke, Lu Fei picked up the two pieces of fatty meat and was about to put them in Lu Yu's lunchbox.
Lu Yu reached out with his chopsticks, blocked the meat, and pushed it back. He also picked up the chicken leg Lu Fei had passed over and returned it.
"It's fine. My injury has already healed. Hurry up and eat. When we're done, I'll take you to buy new clothes."
"Really?" Little stars twinkled in Lu Fei's eyes.
"Of course. But if you still haven't finished by the time I'm done, I won't buy them for you," Lu Yu said with a nod, glancing at the lunchbox, which was still half full.
Hearing that, Lu Fei said no more and hurriedly bent his head to dig in. The moment he lowered his head, a fierce light appeared in Lu Yu's eyes.
The original owner of this body had died an unjust death, and in exactly the same way as Lu Yu in his previous life: both had been struck in the chest with a palm and killed.
After Lu Yu came to this world two days ago, he learned from Lu Fei that the village chief's grandson had awakened Soul Power. The chief's family, who had already run rampant in the village, had become even more lawless.
That same day, the village chief's grandson had ordered the original Lu Yu to get on the ground and bark like a dog. When Lu Yu refused, the chief's grandson struck him in the chest with a palm, killing him.
At the same time, Lu Yu on Blue Star had also died after someone came to challenge his establishment and struck him in the chest with a palm. He had then transmigrated to the Douluo Continent, into the body of this native who shared his full name.
Brother, rest easy and go on your way! I'll take good care of your little brother, and I'll avenge you too. Consider it my thanks for this body of yours.
Lu Yu secretly swore that one day, he would make the village chief's family pay. So what if they had a Soul Master? Wasn't he a Soul Master too?
Now the Lu family had two supremes under one roof!!!
A mere village chief? He could crush him with one hand!!!
