Background

Life on Blue Star

Lu Yu grew up in an orphanage and became devoted to traditional martial arts. At seventeen, he traveled in search of teachers, particularly favoring staff techniques. He eventually entered the Flowing Cloud Martial Arts Hall and learned its signature technique, Flowing Cloud Seven Tremors 1.

An elderly fortune-telling Daoist gave him the Taiqing True Qi Manual. Although his fellow disciples dismissed it and Lu Yu never produced internal force on Blue Star, he secretly practiced its circulation method for years 8 10.

He died after an opponent challenging his establishment struck him in the chest. His later reflections attribute the fatal defeat to overconfidence and underestimating his opponent 3 140.

Transmigration and the Lu Brothers

Lu Yu entered the body of an impoverished boy who shared his name. The original Lu Yu had refused the village chief’s grandson’s demand to kneel and bark like a dog, and was killed by a palm strike to the chest. The brothers’ parents were already dead, and Lu Fei had depended on his elder brother throughout years of hunger and bullying 2 3 9.

Lu Yu accepted responsibility for Lu Fei and promised to avenge the original owner. His knowledge of the original Douluo story gave him plans for obtaining resources and divine opportunities, but he initially intended to stay away from Tang San and the protection of Tang Hao 3 9.

Personality

Lu Yu combines an adult’s planning with an outspoken, teasing manner. Su Yuntao repeatedly notices that he thinks more thoroughly than an ordinary child and values foundational study rather than rushing blindly toward stronger Soul Rings 12 15 27.

His strongest attachment is to Lu Fei. He funds his brother’s education, teaches him cultivation, and plans resources around strengthening his frail foundation. He often invokes the idea that “an elder brother is like a father,” and reacts to Lu Fei’s growing independence with a mixture of relief and parental helplessness 9 24 98 111.

Gratitude matters to him: he remembers Su Yuntao’s help and later repays it with money and cultivation resources. His loyalty to companions coexists with a willingness to deceive others, conceal his advantages, and use intimidation when threatened 10 26 36 97.

His death on Blue Star leaves him intensely protective of his second life. That caution eventually becomes a psychological restraint: he realizes that fear has extinguished the confidence required to wield the Golden Cudgel. His confrontation with Yu Xiaogang and Flender marks a deliberate rejection of that timidity 7 140 141.

After awakening, Lu Yu investigates his Twin Martial Souls in secret and nearly dies absorbing his first ring. When Ta Ke’s gang returns to bully the brothers, Lu Yu fights back and stops Lu Fei from beating Ta Ke to death. Fearing retaliation, he takes his brother to Su Yuntao in Nuoding City 4 8 18 19 20.

He earns more than 300 Gold Soul Coins by selling low-level Soul Beast meat, securing Lu Fei’s tuition. After Jin Erhu’s gang targets him, Lu Yu and Great Sage kill the attackers, and Lu Yu chooses Suotuo’s arena as a less exposed source of income 22 26 27.

Great Sage Equal to Heaven in the Arena

Lu Yu establishes his fighting identity at the Soto Great Soul Arena and defeats the level-17 Mad Bear while only level 13 himself. His reputation grows through thirty consecutive victories, and his encounter with Lin Tian develops into a partnership built around staff technique and a usable weapon 31 32 33 40.

His deliberately white-ringed configuration repeatedly unsettles opponents and spectators. Rather than relying on ring age alone, he combines defensive and mobility skills with martial arts from his previous life 7 42 44.

Star Dou and Ring Fusion

Seeking further Soul Rings, Lu Yu encounters a Ten-Thousand-Year Sky-Flying Centipede and survives its pursuit. Assigning its ring to Great Sage unlocks the Somersault Clouds, while his subsequent contact with Huo Wu and Huo Zhengyang gives him the opportunity to reproduce Ring Fusion 76 77 78 86 87.

A later attempt to raise a centipede ring toward the Hundred-Thousand-Year threshold exposes the limits of his physique. Excess energy forces him to level 60, and his External Soul Bone prevents a fatal overload 109 110.

Zhu Zhuqing and Shrek

Lu Yu travels to Star Luo to seek Zhu Zhuqing, becomes involved in her escape, and fights the guards pursuing them. The two become lovers and later go to Shrek, where Lu Yu intends to obtain a Soul Bone 98 106 111 113.

His time with the Shrek group includes battles with Blue Sunshine Academy, the acquisition of the Equal to Heaven Battle Flags, and an encounter with an impostor using his appearance. His eventual fusion with Great Sage leads to the realization that his own fear has restrained the Golden Cudgel 126 128 130 139 140.

He publicly reveals his Twin Martial Souls, strikes Yu Xiaogang and Flender, declares himself the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, and leaves Shrek with Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong 141.

Divine Inheritance and Heaven Dou

After receiving the God of Destruction’s inheritance, Lu Yu revisits Su Yuntao and takes both Ah Yin and her hidden Right Leg Bone. In Heaven Dou, he answers Yu Tianheng’s reliance on family status by displaying his Soul Bone wealth and challenging seven students at once 145 149 154.

The confrontation becomes a one-sided beating before Meng Shenji intervenes. Lu Yu’s resources, combat strength, and Titled Douluo companion subsequently make him a recruitment target, including for Xue Xing’s effort to strengthen Xue Beng’s political position 156 160.
