Background and History

Village Childhood

Lu Fei and his older brother grew up as orphans in an impoverished village, enduring hunger and repeated bullying. Before awakening his Martial Soul, Lu Fei was sickly and accustomed to saving food rather than eating his fill. Even when given a meal containing meat, he tried to give the best portions to Lu Yu because he believed his brother’s injury had not healed 2 3 9.

He witnessed Ta Ke, the village chief’s grandson, strike Lu Yu in the chest and leave him unconscious for three days. The original Lu Yu died from that injury, and a transmigrator subsequently occupied his body. Lu Fei noticed that his brother had become unusually knowledgeable and resourceful after waking, but recognized the same gentleness and care 11 17 18.

Awakening and Escape to Nuoding City

Su Yuntao awakened Lu Fei’s Fire Monkey and discovered his innate level-five Soul Power. He offered Lu Fei admission to Spirit Hall Academy, promising sufficient food and a place for Lu Yu as well. Although tempted, Lu Fei deferred to his brother’s decision, and the brothers postponed accepting 1 2.

When Ta Ke returned to threaten them, Lu Fei initially hid in terror. Seeing another confrontation resembling his brother’s earlier injury, he entered Martial Soul Possession and attacked Ta Ke. Lu Yu stopped him before he could continue beating the defeated boy, then took him to Nuoding City to seek Su Yuntao’s protection 17 18 19.

Su Yuntao sheltered both brothers. Lu Fei remained reluctant to abandon their village, but Lu Yu encouraged him to cultivate until they could return without fear 20.

Academy Education

Lu Fei entered Nuoding Academy as a self-funded student. Initially unable to read, he had already begun learning through illustrated Soul Beast guides with Lu Yu’s help; by the time Lu Yu sent him a concealed letter, he could read its instructions himself 13 14 22 24 36.

Xiao Chenyu’s group initially approached him as a newcomer to intimidate. Their attitude changed immediately upon learning his innate Soul Power: Xiao Chenyu offered protection and ordered his followers to recognize Lu Fei as another boss. Later, after discovering that the brothers were commoner orphans, Xiao Chenyu privately considered using Lu Yu as leverage to control him 28 35.

During Lu Yu’s absence, Lu Fei trained diligently and used the cultivation resources his brother sent. Their reunion began with Lu Yu disguising himself and testing Lu Fei’s combat reactions. Lu Fei defended himself confidently, then burst into tears upon recognizing his brother 35 36 59 60.

Leaving the Village Behind

Lu Fei completed early-graduation formalities and asked to revisit their old home. During the visit, he learned that Ta Ke had died and struggled with guilt over his role in the death. Lu Yu reassured him that Ta Ke had brought the consequences upon himself, then led him away from the village chief’s family 69.

In Suotuo City, Lu Yu introduced him to Lin Tian and Oscar. Offered a choice between strengthening the Fire Monkey’s flames or increasing its physical strength and size, Lu Fei chose the flame-focused path. His first ring hunt took the brothers to Lava Canyon, where he obtained the Scarlet Flame Fire Spirit’s ring 70 71 73.

Later Training and Independence

After the two-year search for the Mirror Shadow Beast ended, Lu Fei reached level thirty. Lu Yu took him into the Star Dou Great Forest for his third ring, leaving him to handle dangers along the route. The hunt ultimately gave him both a soul-targeting attack and Nether Fire 93 94 95.

While Lu Yu was away in the Star Luo Empire, Lu Fei left with Lin Tian to gain experience, leaving a letter explaining their departure. Lu Yu later suspected that the pair had also taken Oscar along, but did not know for certain 111 121.

By the later account, Qian Renxue recognized Lu Fei as a talented Spirit Hall member. Connecting him to Lu Yu led her to consider recruiting the older brother and to remember Nuoding City and Su Yuntao for recognition 158.

Appearance

Lu Fei begins as a small, thin, undernourished child; after three months of improved living conditions and training, his body becomes noticeably sturdier 9 28 59.

  • Unpossessed Martial Soul: A red-furred monkey, initially about one and a half meters tall, with a flame at its tail tip 1.
  • Martial Soul Possession: Increases his height, covers his arms in pale-red fur, and produces a monkey tail with a blazing fireball at its tip 59.
  • First-ring transformation: The Fire Monkey’s flames spread from its tail tip to its entire tail and both claws 73.

Personality

Years of oppression make Lu Fei timid, wary of strangers, and heavily dependent on Lu Yu. Nevertheless, his affection for his brother can override that fear: the prospect of Lu Yu being injured again drives him to attack Ta Ke despite his previous terror 2 17 18 28.

He is generous even when hungry, offering Lu Yu his meat and aspiring to become strong enough to earn money and feed him every day. He takes cultivation seriously, follows his brother’s instructions, and becomes increasingly cheerful and confident as his circumstances improve 3 9 35 36 59.

His growing combativeness does not erase his compassion. He feels guilty about Ta Ke’s death and initially pities the captive Ghost Fire. He also respects Lu Yu’s privacy, reasoning that his brother will explain his secrets when he wishes to 69 72 95.

Abilities and Skills

Fire Monkey Martial Soul

A fire-attribute Beast Martial Soul used for possession, close combat, and controlled flame production 1 36 59.

  • Close-range attacks: Uses flaming punches and tail sweeps, including a sweep that scatters sparks toward an opponent 59.
  • Utility flames: Provides light and carefully warms garlic-water writing to reveal hidden messages 9 36.
  • Development path: Prioritizes strengthening flame temperature and Martial Soul Origin rather than the monkey’s size and physical strength 70.
  • Long-term potential: Lu Yu proposes Ultimate Fire as a possible endpoint; Lu Fei is not shown achieving it in the supplied chapters 70.

Physical and Fire Dual Immunity

His first Soul Skill, obtained from the Scarlet Flame Fire Spirit 73 74.

  • Grants immunity to 50% of physical damage and 50% of fire damage 74.
  • Lu Yu identifies it as useful against Tool Martial Soul Masters 73.
  • Does not establish immunity to ice or water; Lu Yu considers those separate weaknesses to address later 73.

Ten Soul-Burning Blazes

His third Soul Skill, obtained from Ghost Fire and named by Lu Yu 95.

  • Summons ten fireballs 95.
  • Ignores defenses and attacks the target’s soul directly 95.

Nether Fire

Black, soul-burning flames identified by Lu Yu as an External Soul Bone attached to Lu Fei’s soul 95.

  • Manifests in connection with a gray figure resembling Lu Fei 95.
  • Kills a Soft Bone Rabbit by burning its soul, leaving no visible injuries during the test 95.

Cultivation and Physical Conditioning

Lu Fei combines formal meditation with body-tempering resources supplied by Lu Yu 36 68 70.

  • Basic meditation: Uses Su Yuntao’s method to refine Fire Ganoderma and advance to level six 36.
  • Taiqing True Qi Manual: Receives the secret manual from Lu Yu, memorizes its circulation route after three guided cycles, and completes a cycle independently 66 68.
  • Enhanced physique: Repeated Whale Rubber nourishment strengthens him beyond Soul Masters of the same rank. Before obtaining his first ring, he withstands Lu Yu’s level-twenty-six pressure while dropping to one knee 70.
  • Combat reactions: Evades a surprise pounce, assumes a fighting stance, and counterattacks during Lu Yu’s disguised test 59.
  • Rasengan instruction: Sees Lu Yu’s training method but asks for an alternative because he finds it too difficult; mastery is not established 75.

Equipment and Cultivation Resources
