I Am the Seer

"Welcome to the horrifying world of level-Behind."
"Current survivors: 36"
"Current number of Facelings: 6. They're hiding right beside you!"
"Facelings will kill when you least expect it. Please do not act alone. Find them and kill them!"
"Stay alive. Good luck."
A piercing announcement came from a loudspeaker hanging in the corner of the room, its surface covered in rust.
Something that looked like dried red liquid was stuck to it, though there was no telling what it was.
Lin Yang clutched his aching head. A strange, bloody smell rushed straight into his nose, accompanied by waves of noisy discussion.
Among the people chattering around him were people Lin Yang knew-his high school classmates-as well as some strangers!
Lin Yang frowned. "Where is this?"
It was a dilapidated high school classroom, with rust-covered desks and chairs and a foul, bloody smell filling the air.
Sunlight streamed through the windows, a little dazzling.
Lin Yang walked to a window and looked outside. The buildings beyond belonged to a completely unfamiliar world!
A red banner hung against a wall with mottled, peeling plaster. Several large characters were written on it.
"False Person Experimental Middle School."
Someone in the crowd shouted.
"We transmigrated! We transmigrated!"
The words exploded in the classroom like a thunderclap, and the whole room erupted in noise.
Everyone held their heads and looked around.
"We transmigrated?!"
"Oh my god! It looks like we really did transmigrate!?"
"Wait, did you hear the announcement just now? It said there are Facelings among us!"
"I heard it! It definitely said there are Facelings among us!"
"If we can transmigrate, then it's not impossible for Facelings to exist!"
"Not only that, the announcement said the Facelings will kill!!"
At those words, many people panicked.
Some still refused to believe it, though. They went around knocking and banging on things nearby, trying to escape.
"What Facelings? I bet this is some fucking variety show some idiot cooked up!"
"Transmigration? Like hell I believe that!"
A man wearing glasses pointed sternly around the room.
"That's right! Where's the camera crew? Let me out. I'm a lawyer! You're already suspected of unlawful detention! You can be held criminally liable for this!"
"..."
Lin Yang stood alone in a corner. Through the window, he happened to glance at a spot where cleaning supplies were kept at the foot of the building opposite!
There seemed to be a shriveled ball there!
The ball was wrinkled, and its wrinkles were strangely irregular.
What kind of ball is that?
But when he focused and looked closely, he sucked in a breath!
How was that a ball?
It was a human head!
And a dried-up one at that! Its eye sockets were sunken, and its flesh clung tightly to the bone!
He collapsed onto the floor and scooted back a little.
Someone nearby mocked him for being a coward.
Lin Yang said nothing! Both the thing outside the window and the strange sight before him just now were telling him there was over a ninety percent chance this wasn't a variety show!
He quickly sorted through the information. If they really had transmigrated into an exceedingly terrifying world of Facelings, then the most important thing right now
wasn't discussing filing complaints and defending their rights, but staying alive!
Just then!
The mottled loudspeaker sounded again. A deep male voice came from it.
It sounded a little like Belial.
"A friendly reminder: there is a seer among you. Please follow the seer's guidance for a chance at survival. Of course, the Facelings will also pretend to be the seer."
The room grew noisy again at those words.
"A seer? What the hell is a seer? Does it think we're playing Werewolf?"
"Maybe this really is a game of Werewolf."
"Who cares? Facelings, my ass. I'll just lie here all day and see if I die! We live in a law-abiding society. Would a variety show really dare kill someone?"
"Exactly! I bet this so-called death just means you're out! I'd just get escorted out, right? I might as well die!"
"..."
Lin Yang listened quietly to these remarks. If he had still harbored doubts before, he was now one hundred percent certain he had been transported to a real horror world!
Because a bizarre interface had appeared in his mind!
[You are currently the only seer among everyone present. Each day, you may check one person's identity or obtain a piece of survival information.] [You may choose to conceal your identity or reveal it. Of course, revealing it may bring unnecessary trouble.] [The most valuable thing is given to the wise.]
Lin Yang's breathing grew a little heavier. He suppressed his restless thoughts and looked at the page that had popped up in his mind, as well as the Inspection Function beside it.
"So... this is real."
Given to the wise? Is it complimenting me?
Lin Yang nodded, took a deep breath, and looked at the thirty-odd people in the classroom.
The classroom was crowded. Dozens of people wandered back and forth, making so much noise that there was no telling who was good and who was bad.
But what he could do right now was find a place as far from the crowd as possible, to avoid being killed by a Faceling.
Without alerting anyone, he looked around and suddenly spotted a door at the back of the classroom!
Unlike the classroom door, which seemed to be locked shut-no one could break it, no matter what they smashed it with-
this door was slightly ajar!
He stepped quietly forward, grasped the rusty doorknob, and turned it.
With a creak, Lin Yang opened the door, revealing everything inside.
It was a small storage closet containing brooms, mops, and a trash can. Fortunately, there was nothing smelly in the trash can.
Lin Yang glanced around out of the corner of his eye and immediately slipped inside without a second thought. Then he reached out to close the door.
But just as he was about to shut it, there was a clack, and a hand reached through the gap, stopping him.
Then the door was pulled open.
"Hey, buddy! Found a good spot and you're not sharing?"
Lin Yang's pupils contracted as he looked at the man's face. "Li Wei?"
The man was about 1.7 meters tall, plain-looking, bespectacled, and had an unremarkable face. He was also Lin Yang's high school classmate.
Li Wei froze, then said, "It's you!"
Lin Yang was just about to say something when Li Wei hurriedly pulled the door open and slipped inside with him.
He shut the door. Lin Yang tried to leave, but Li Wei deliberately blocked his way.
"...Old classmate, long time no see. What have you been up to lately?" He acted as if they were close friends, his face wreathed in smiles.
"I..."
Lin Yang was about to answer, but the words suddenly caught in his throat, and his pupils contracted.
Something's wrong!
The Li Wei he remembered was a man of few words, practically invisible in their high school class. How had he become so outgoing now?
He watched Li Wei draw closer and closer.
The guy seemed intent on getting him alone!
He turned his attention to the system in his mind and used one of his checks almost without thinking!
With a thought, he checked Li Wei's identity!
[Check successful. Li Wei's identity is...]
