Lin Yang attended high school with Li Wei and Jiang Yu'an. He sat diagonally behind Jiang Yu'an and admired her beauty and academic ability. He later saw her social-media posts about studying forensic medicine at a top university 1 13.

He awakens in a classroom among former classmates and strangers, with an aching head and the smell of blood around him. A dried human head outside the building and a supernatural interface convince him that the danger is real, despite other captives dismissing their situation as a staged show 1.

Personality

Lin Yang is cautious, observant, and willing to conceal what he knows. He notices the mismatch between Li Wei’s outgoing behavior and his quiet high-school personality, then maintains a friendly conversation even after confirming that Li Wei is a Faceling. He also withholds Liu Jialiang’s Gunslinger identity rather than expose a potentially valuable ally 1 2 22.

His opposition to reckless killing is practical as well as protective. He saves Chen Yu and Liu Jialiang from lynching because accusations without proof would destroy cooperation and allow anyone to murder under the pretext of hunting Facelings. He recognizes that the survivors need numerical strength against creatures they cannot defeat individually 8 9 20.

He is neither selfless nor unwilling to use coercion. He keeps private food reserves, exempts himself from night watch, and makes access to supplies conditional on cooperation. Nevertheless, he personally leads dangerous fights and refuses a suggestion to conceal a newly discovered food cache from the wider group 10 13 21 27.

After Shen Cheng’s deception turns the survivors against him, Lin Yang becomes openly distrustful of their declarations of loyalty. He describes their relationship as cooperation for mutual survival, not an obligation to serve as their leader. Story Role / Major Arcs

Surviving the Classroom

Lin Yang initially hides in a storage closet and discovers through inspection that Li Wei is a Faceling. Because the creature can accurately recall their shared school experiences, he cannot rely on ordinary personal questions to expose it 1 2.

After obtaining access to a hidden refrigerator, he intervenes when Fatty tries to kill Chen Yu. His staged accusation against Fatty demonstrates how easily suspicion can become murder, allowing him to establish rules while continuing to conceal his real Seer identity 4 7 8.

He then gathers followers, retakes the storage room from a rival group, and distributes food. Once his authority is established, he accuses Li Wei and asks Jiang Yu'an to examine the blood on his hand 9 10 11.

Exploring the School

Using information from his system, Lin Yang locates the classroom key. The outside courtyard offers no ordinary escape: fog surrounds the grounds, and a monster threatens people approaching the boundary. He explains that they are no longer in normal human society and rebuilds the frightened survivors into a coordinated group 15 16 17 18.

He protects Liu Jialiang from repeated accusations, privately identifies him as a Gunslinger, and exposes the balding Faceling despite public resistance. With food running short, he helps organize a tentacle hunt using Zhang Hao as unwilling bait 20 22 23 25 27.

Defeating the False Seer

The returned Shen Cheng wins support by claiming Seer authority and pressures Lin Yang into potentially fatal outings. Lin Yang accepts social isolation rather than comply, instead preparing the verified-human Yanbian men for an attack 33 34.

When Shen Cheng declares him a Faceling, the two men strike and force Shen Cheng’s monstrous nature into the open. Afterward, Lin Yang rejects the crowd’s renewed professions of loyalty and insists that their alliance exists for mutual survival 35 36.

Liu Jialiang saves him from a subsequent surprise attack. Lin Yang then disperses the group and uses himself as bait, drawing Liu Yan to the rooftop and shooting her. Her death ends the school’s Faceling hunt, and the gates eventually open 37 38 39 40.

The Yellow Room

Leaving the school transports Lin Yang into a yellow corridor, where only part of his former group is present. Liu Jialiang is missing, and Jin Xiucheng is soon discovered dead from an unfamiliar bite 40 41 43.

Lin Yang leads the group away from a black, featureless creature, inspects it, and names it a Faceless Ghost. He uses its environmental preferences to find a safer resting area while keeping his Seer identity hidden from the newcomers 43 44 45 46.

He subsequently follows a memorized route to a stocked vending machine. When hostile newcomers attempt to take the food by force, he kills Li Xuan during the attack 49 50.
