Li Wei Was Exposed
Those words confirmed that he was a Faceling! No one knew what time Zhang Lei had died except the Faceling!
Li Wei's expression gradually twisted, as though he knew he had been exposed! His face contorted and shifted, crying one moment and laughing the next!
His limbs began to crack.
"No... kill... hehehe..."
A sight that made everyone's scalp crawl unfolded before them!
The guy's jaw suddenly dropped all the way to the floor!
His neck began to twist and stretch! Then his head hung upside down over his shoulder, his neck bent into an n shape!
The sight sent everyone stumbling back several steps!
Li Wei's hands cracked. "I'm not a Faceling!! I'm not a Faceling!!"
He mumbled indistinctly, both arms held straight out in front of him like a zombie, pointing at Jiang Yu'an!
Then he suddenly sped up and lunged at her!
"I'm not... hungry, ohhh!... boohoo..."
His voice was grotesque and terrifying, low one moment and shrill the next. It made everyone's scalp crawl! Quite a few people were so frightened that they didn't dare move!
Lin Yang was quick to react. Without thinking, he looped a rope around Li Wei's neck and yanked him backward!
"Kill it!! Quick!!"
Only then did everyone react! In their desperation, several men regained their senses and hurriedly grabbed tables and chairs to smash Li Wei with!
Bang! Bang! Everyone brought their sticks down on the Faceling!
The fat man went at it like a madman, picking up a craft knife and stabbing its neck over and over!
Blood flowed out! It was black!
There was no telling how long they kept smashing him. Even after Li Wei stopped moving, they kept at it!
They were terrified that the thing might survive!
They went on until the thing was a bloody mess, with only its twisted fingers twitching on the floor!
Only then did everyone collapse to the floor, gasping for breath.
"It's dead!... It's really dead!"
"A Faceling! There really are Facelings! This is horrifying!"
"..."
At that moment, the deep voice from the loudspeaker sounded again.
"Current survivors: 33. Number of Facelings: 5."
"A friendly reminder: Facelings are shy. They don't like showing what they can do in front of outsiders. But when acting alone, they may be very strong."
Everyone began clamoring again. "Shy? What does that mean?"
Lin Yang said, "It means they're afraid of crowds. When there are a lot of people around, they might not be as strong!"
At that, someone had a sudden realization. "No wonder it silently killed two people during the night, but we managed to take it down so easily just now!"
"Then all we have to do from now on is stick together, right?"
Everyone looked at Lin Yang. They had to rely on him in today's fight!
Many people looked at him with a little more admiration, and all quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
"As long as Facelings can be killed, we still have hope!"
Without anyone noticing, Lin Yang's standing rose considerably once again.
Lin Yang let out a long breath. "We'll talk about it later. First, let's deal with those bodies."
The Faceling's corpse on the floor stank, giving off a foul smell of rotten eggs.
Aside from it, Zhang Lei and the other victim's bodies were still lying in the corner of the classroom. The sweet, bloody smell of rotting flesh was growing stronger, as though something were slowly decaying in the air.
"How do we deal with them?" someone asked.
Lin Yang walked into the storage room, followed by several people. He went up to the small vent and looked up at it.
The vent was roughly forty centimeters square, with a sliver of daylight coming through from outside.
He reached up and pushed the cover. The rusty sheet of metal opened outward with a grating squeak.
Outside was a gray wall, with an alley below. Fallen leaves and trash covered the alley floor, and there was no telling how long they had been there.
"Throw them out through here," Lin Yang said.
"The opening's so small. How are we supposed to throw them out?" someone asked doubtfully.
Lin Yang didn't answer. He walked over to the two bodies, bent down, and lifted the tabletop.
Zhang Lei's face had turned grayish white, a white film covered his eyes, and his lips had shriveled, exposing his yellow teeth.
The edges of the wound on his neck had begun to blacken, and tiny white things were wriggling inside it.
Lin Yang's stomach clenched.
He bit down hard on his back teeth and forced the sour bile rising in his throat back down.
"Come help," he said, his voice a little tight.
Several men looked queasy. "The opening's too small. We'd have to cut them into pieces to throw them out."
Lin Yang shook his head.
"There's another way."
He stood Zhang Lei's body upright.
Lin Yang heaved. With a sharp crack, the knee broke backward, and the lower leg hung limply down! He had forcibly broken the corpse!
The people beside him went pale, and one girl covered her mouth and ran to the side to retch.
Then came the other victim. The five gashes on his back, deep enough to expose bone, had turned into dark furrows, with flies crawling over them.
As he handled him, Lin Yang felt an unnatural softness beneath his hands, like squeezing a waterlogged sponge.
He turned his head away and looked no more.
The three bodies were folded into two irregular lumps of flesh, which caught for a moment as they were shoved into the vent.
Lin Yang gave them a hard push. Bone scraped against sheet metal with a piercing screech, and then they fell into the alley below with a crash!
The sound was dull, like a bag of garbage being thrown into a trash can.
Last was the Faceling's corpse. It was unnaturally long, thin, soft and rotten. They picked it up between pieces of cardboard, stuffed it into the outside ventilation duct, and threw it out. Its fingers were still twitching as they threw it!
Everyone fell silent.
It stayed quiet for several seconds.
Much of the smell had dissipated. The crowd breathed a sigh of relief and began to disperse.
Some silently picked up the bloodstained rags scattered on the floor. Others took strips of cloth pulled from a broken mop and knelt to wipe up the dark red bloodstains. Still others righted the overturned desks.
"At last, the smell's gone..."
Some people looked at Lin Yang with a trace of fear.
"That's incredible."
"He just broke those corpses apart like that. He's a ruthless one!"
