Everyone was stunned. The reversal had caught them completely off guard! But once they came to their senses, they all rushed to help!

They grabbed weapons and brought them down on the twisted monster!

The thing was like a maddened house centipede, thrashing about nonstop! It was disgusting and horrifying!

Shen Yue was screaming!

She stood behind Fatty. Once she fully realized what was happening, she panicked.

"Brother... Brother!"

Fatty roared, "That's not your brother!"

Shen Yue's eyes widened, and tears rolled down her face in an unbroken stream. She pointed at Shen Cheng.

"He's not my brother... He's not my brother... How could this happen... How...!"

Only after Shen Cheng had been smashed to pieces and black blood splattered everywhere did Lin Yang cast a cold glance around.

He breathed a sigh of relief.

Earlier, he had secretly discussed the matter with the two men from Yanbian and told them that Shen Cheng was a Faceling. He had made a bet with them: if Shen Cheng came to slander him, that would prove he was a Faceling!

The two men believed him. They didn't believe Lin Yang was a Faceling, so they had helped him in secret!

They had taken a gamble!

And won.

Shen Cheng's corpse lay completely motionless on the ground.

Black blood seeped out from beneath his twisted body, slowly spreading across the concrete floor.

A strange smell, a mixture of rotten eggs and roasted meat, filled the air. It burrowed into their noses and clung to their throats, impossible to swallow away.

Everyone in the classroom fell silent.

Fatty panted heavily, the table leg still held across his body. The skin between his thumb and forefinger had split from the force of his grip and was bleeding, but he paid it no mind.

He stared at the mass of black, mangled flesh on the ground, unable to imagine that it had once been the brother who had fought alongside him.

"Fuck!"

His lips moved as though he wanted to curse, but when the words reached his mouth, he could only swallow them back. He didn't curse at all.

Liu Jialiang sat in a corner, the injured side of his waist wrapped in a bandage made from strips of torn clothing.

No one spoke. They each looked toward Lin Yang, some averting their eyes in shame.

No one had expected the only seer among them to be a Faceling.

And the man who had stood at the front and borne everything for everyone from beginning to end had almost been tied up and handed over to the Faceling by their own hands!

The reason they hadn't done it wasn't that they had seen the truth, but that the two men from Yanbian, who never spoke, had stabbed a knife through Shen Cheng's waist!

Liu Yan was the quickest to react. She hurried over and took Lin Yang's arm.

"Brother Lin, I didn't know any better before... From now on, I'll listen to you."

Lin Yang glanced at her and flung her arm away. "Get lost."

The others were a little embarrassed too.

"I..."

Fatty's voice was as hoarse as sandpaper scraping against sheet metal. He set the table leg on the ground. "Brother Lin, I... this..."

He couldn't go on.

Liu Jialiang lowered his head in shame and sighed.

"If there's anyone here least likely to be a Faceling..."

"It's Lin Yang, and we... nearly fell for that Faceling's trick!"

His words were like a stone thrown into stagnant water.

No one knew who in the crowd spoke first. The voice was quiet, as though speaking to himself, but it rang out clearly in the silence.

"From now on, I trust Brother Lin!"

Then came a second voice. "Right. I don't trust anyone but Brother Lin."

One after another, voices rose from every corner of the classroom.

Those who had gathered around Shen Cheng four days ago, calling him "Brother Cheng," and those who had silently turned their heads away when Lin Yang was isolated, all spoke up.

Their voices held guilt and lingering fear, but even more than that, an eagerness to make amends by declaring their support.

Lin Yang stood at the front of the classroom.

He listened to their words, his expression unchanged.

When a wall falls, everyone pushes. That was human nature.

He knew these people all too well. They could tell him they trusted him today, and say the same to someone else tomorrow.

The day after that, if another Faceling came along who was smarter than Lin Yang and better at acting, they would gather around that Faceling just the same.

"Enough!"

Lin Yang roared, and all the noise vanished at once.

He took a step forward. The firelight stretched his shadow long as his icy gaze swept over the room.

"I don't need you to make me your leader!"

"Remember this! We're only cooperating. I'm keeping you alive because I don't want to die myself. That's all."

He paused, his gaze passing over every face.

"From now on, anyone who stands in the way of my decisions will meet only one end!"

He turned, his gaze settling on one person.

Wang Jianjun!

The middle-aged man with a square face and thick eyebrows was huddled at the very back of the crowd, his back pressed against the wall and his lips trembling uncontrollably.

Over the past few days, he had been the biggest bootlicker of them all. This morning, he had been the first to take up a rope and try to tie Lin Yang up!

At a signal, the two men from Yanbian rose from beside Shen Cheng's corpse.

The one with prominent cheekbones wiped the black blood off his knife on his trouser leg. Once the remaining blood was wiped from the blade, the silvery steel beneath was revealed.

He glanced at Lin Yang, who tilted his head at him.

Without another word, he strode toward Wang Jianjun.

The other, shorter man from Yanbian circled around from the other side, cutting off Wang Jianjun's escape.

Wang Jianjun's legs gave out.

He slid down the wall, his knees striking the floor, and raised his hands over his head with his palms pressed together.

A dark wet patch spread across his crotch. Urine ran down his trouser legs and dripped onto the concrete, mingling with the black blood!

"Brother Lin! Brother Lin! I'm not a Faceling! I really am not a Faceling!"

His voice cracked, high and broken, mixed with sobs and gasps.

"I was just tricked! Shen Cheng tricked me! I was blind! I was a fool! I'll kowtow to you!"

He slammed his head against the floor, his forehead hitting the concrete with a dull thud. He struck it hard enough to draw blood.

He kowtowed a third time, then a fourth, saying as he did, "Spare me, Brother Lin," "I'm not a Faceling," and "I won't ever do it again."

Lin Yang looked down at him. There was no change of emotion in his eyes.

"What you are doesn't matter. What matters is what you've done. We don't need Facelings here! And we need fools even less!"

Wang Jianjun raised his head, his expression changing from fear to despair!

He opened his mouth to shout something, but the man from Yanbian with prominent cheekbones had already grabbed his hair from behind.

He yanked Wang Jianjun's head back, pulling the skin of his neck taut as a thin sheet of paper. The blade swept across from the left, cutting into flesh!

A jet of blood sprayed out, splattering against the white wall where the plaster was peeling!

Wang Jianjun's body twitched twice, then he toppled onto his side, his face pressed against the concrete, his eyes open and his mouth still shaped to shout whatever he had wanted to say!

Lin Yang looked at the spreading pool of blood on the floor and frowned slightly.

Wang Jianjun had to die. Keeping someone like him around would only create more obstacles! Otherwise, anyone would try to morally blackmail him from now on!

"Aish..." The man from Yanbian with prominent cheekbones looked down at the blood on his knife, then at Wang Jianjun on the floor. The corner of his mouth twitched.

"He wasn't even a Faceling, but he was that eager. Was there something wrong with his head or what?"

Lin Yang, however, froze. His pupils contracted as he looked at the blood on the floor!

"Black?"

The broadcast sounded.

A deep male voice seeped out of the rusty speaker in the corner of the wall.

"Current survivors: 24. Current number of Facelings: 1."

As soon as the voice fell silent, everyone's breathing stopped for a moment.

Two Facelings had died?!

Fatty was the first to react, his eyes widening. He pointed at the black blood.

"Wang Jianjun was a Faceling! He was a Faceling too! Fuck, my god, good thing Brother Lin was so wise!

"We almost fell for that bastard's act! He was still pretending just now! He was even kowtowing when he was about to die! Are Facelings all that good at pretending?"

He grabbed Lin Yang's sleeve, excitement on his face. "Only one left! We've won! Kill one more, and this damned place will be peaceful!"

The others also breathed a sigh of relief, smiles appearing on their faces. "This is an unexpected bonus! Buy one, get one free!"

"That bastard Wang Jianjun led the charge for Shen Cheng from beginning to end. I knew he was no good!"

"If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have suspected Brother Lin!"

Someone went up and kicked Wang Jianjun twice!

The bespectacled college student punched the wall, muttering, "Finally."

A surge of excitement at having survived the ordeal filled the classroom, and someone began counting the Facelings on his fingers.

"Li Wei was one, the balding middle-aged man was one, the one who attacked at night was one, Shen Cheng was one, and now Wang Jianjun too. That's five, with only the last one left!"

Amid the joy, however, Lin Yang did not smile.

He looked down at Wang Jianjun's corpse. The man was a Faceling. But why hadn't he resisted?

Had he just gone to his death like that?

Why?

His expression was strange. Suddenly, his gaze fell on Wang Jianjun's arm.

Only now did he see that the arm was broken! It had an irregular break, with a sharp point of bone sticking out!

He suddenly thought of something!

His pupils contracted sharply!

"Something's wrong!! Scatter, quickly!"
