The Strange Black-Faced Monster
The sound erupted from where the newcomers had gathered, so shrill it sounded as though someone's throat had been torn in two.
More screams followed, along with the dull thud of someone crashing into a wall.
The newcomers poured around the corner like ants from a disturbed nest, scattering in every direction.
Some stood trembling in place, staring at a figure sprawled on the floor.
Lin Yang frowned, turned back, and pushed through the fleeing crowd to the corner.
He stopped.
He looked in the direction a young woman was pointing.
She had collapsed on the floor, her face pale and her eyes trembling as she pointed straight at a figure on the ground.
Lin Yang walked closer to take a look.
A person lay on the corridor floor!
He was short, around forty, and wore a gray work jacket.
There was a wound on his neck, torn into jagged sections!
It hadn't been cut by a blade. It had clearly been torn open by teeth, and those teeth had a peculiar shape.
Skin and flesh curled back from the uneven edges, exposing a pale windpipe and dark red muscle tissue.
Blood was still flowing from the wound, not yet fully congealed, spreading into a dark patch on the beige carpet!
His eyes were open and his mouth slightly parted, his face still bearing the expression from the last second before his death, as if he'd been caught off guard. His neck had probably been torn open before he'd even realized what he had encountered!
Lin Yang turned the corpse over and suddenly froze.
"Jin Xiucheng?!"
That short man from Yanbian!
Jiang Yu'an crouched down beside Lin Yang.
She leaned close to Jin Xiucheng's neck and studied it for two seconds before standing up and speaking gravely.
"He died no more than half an hour ago. The wound wasn't made by a blade. He was bitten! The teeth marks are spaced farther apart than a normal person's. It doesn't look like a Faceling did it."
The fatty stared for a moment.
"It wasn't a Faceling? Then what else is in here?"
"Something." Jiang Yu'an looked at Lin Yang, her eyes deeply wary.
"The bite marks on this body are different from a Faceling's. A Faceling's bite is similar to a human's, but the teeth marks on this wound are farther apart than a Faceling's. Not just a little farther-almost twice as far!"
The newcomers had gathered around too. Someone screamed.
"Murder! Someone's really been murdered!"
Someone pulled out a phone and frantically jabbed at it, only to realize after a while that there was no signal. They smashed it on the floor and stamped on it twice.
Someone threw themselves at the wall and started pounding the wallpaper. Their fists struck the wall with muffled thumps, but after more than a dozen blows, there wasn't even a dent in the wall.
The plump auntie clutched her boy close. He had started crying again, his sobs bouncing back and forth through the corridor!
Lin Yang glanced at the newcomers, his voice commanding. "Shut the hell up."
With those words, the corridor fell silent!
Though the newcomers were unhappy, instinct made them shut up.
Except for one person.
The yellow-haired guy from before!
He stepped forward again, pointing at Lin Yang and saying through gritted teeth,
"Did you do this?! What are you trying to do?! Kill people? I'm not scared of you!"
As he spoke, he pulled a butterfly knife from his pocket and pointed it straight at Lin Yang.
Lin Yang gave a cold laugh and walked toward him, closing in step by step.
The yellow-haired guy backed away again and again. "What do you want?!"
With a bang, Lin Yang snatched the butterfly knife away.
Then he kicked him to the floor and shouted,
"Get lost!"
The yellow-haired guy trembled with fright and scrambled back several steps!
Lin Yang had fought his way out of a sea of blood. He had long since stopped fearing thugs like this.
He keenly sensed that something was very wrong here. There was most likely something more dangerous lurking around.
So he had no time to waste on this bunch of idiots.
Just as Lin Yang was about to crouch down and examine Jin Xiucheng's corpse, he caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye.
At the end of the corridor, where the light was dim, a shadow was moving against the beige wallpaper!
It was a separate, three-dimensional outline, and it was moving.
The thing was about two meters tall and black all over-a pure black, as though someone had cut out all the shadows in the corridor and molded them into the shape of a person!
It stood among the shadows, with no features or expression. Its face was a single, smooth black surface!
That surface was turned toward Lin Yang, watching him!
It moved!
Its whole body advanced with an unnatural smoothness, its feet never rising or falling against the carpet, as if it were gliding! It was fast, and getting faster!
It came straight for him!
Lin Yang's pupils contracted, and he roared,
"Run!"
In an instant,
he ran forward!
The fatty grabbed Shen Yue by the wrist, pulled her up from the floor, and charged ahead!
Jiang Yu'an followed behind them, the hem of her windbreaker flying up.
Chen Yu nearly tripped over the carpet as he ran, but the muscular man caught him.
But as they ran,
a roar came from behind them. "Come on! You think I'm scared of you?!"
Lin Yang glanced back. One of the newcomers hadn't run.
The man stood his ground in a horse stance, fists raised in some fighting pose he had learned who knew where, and shouted "Come on!" at the black shadow.
He had probably learned boxing at some gym for a couple of years, and probably never seen what something that could actually kill looked like!
The black shadow didn't even slow down as it passed him, coming straight at him until their faces were pressed together!
The man threw a punch!
It landed on the face! The black shadow didn't even budge!
The man froze.
But in that moment of shock,
the featureless black surface drew close to his neck.
The black face suddenly opened into a gaping maw, revealing rows of sharp teeth like a hacksaw!
With a ripping sound, they sank into flesh!
