Zhang Yu opened the Undead Tavern and summoned Madara, Hashirama, Izuna, and Tobirama to serve there and complete missions. After they recovered the Scroll of Seals and reunited with their brothers, Tobirama and Hashirama learned how Konoha had fared under Hiruzen and confronted him over its failures.
Zhang Yu expanded the Undead Tavern's business while Hashirama and Madara supervised Team 7 and learned of the Uchiha Clan Massacre. He sent them to recruit Zabuza Momochi and Haku, leaving them accompanying Team 7 into the Land of Waves after Madara killed two attackers.
Madara and Hashirama recruited Zabuza and Haku for the Undead Tavern, while Zhang Yu renovated the tavern and drew Kurenai and Hiruzen into its affairs. After Zabuza and Haku died, their contracts brought them back as tavern employees, and Zhang Yu prepared Haku to serve as a waiter.
Zhang Yu brought Zabuza and Haku back as tavern employees, then put the staff to work building a garden and fishpond. He sold scarce erguotou to Hyuga Hiashi and Inoichi Yamanaka, and Haku passed a massage assessment that earned him a chance at full-time work.
Zhang Yu strengthened the Undead Tavern, welcomed Jiraiya, and accompanied him to Konoha, where a new quest brought Ino, Sakura, and Hinata to the tavern for a promotional photo shoot. The girls settled in for the night as Zhang Yu prepared for the shoot, while Hashirama and Madara continued sneaking drinks.
Zhang Yu staged promotional photo shoots, took on Team 7 as trainees, and ordered a pool built by hand for a party. The work drew Might Guy and Jiraiya into the construction crew, while Tenten, Rock Lee, and Neji arrived at the tavern looking for Guy.
Zhang Yu recruited Tenten and Ino for the Undead Tavern, arranged for Hashirama and Tobirama to protect the Chunin Ninja Exams, and joined the first test with Haku and Yugao. After passing Ibiki’s written exam through Naruto’s refusal to quit, Zhang Yu entered the Forest of Death with the girls as Hashirama and Madara detected Orochimaru among the candidates.
Zhang Yu turned the Forest of Death exam into a scroll marketplace, then returned to the tavern and recruited new staff while the Chunin Exam advanced. Yugao’s permanent hiring unlocked business expansion, and Zhang Yu chose to open a hot pot restaurant beside a barbecue restaurant.
Zhang Yu expanded the Undead Tavern into a restaurant and game parlor, then let Konoha’s invasion unfold while Hashirama and Tobirama foiled Orochimaru’s attempt to summon them. After Hiruzen died and Orochimaru escaped, Zhang Yu joined Jiraiya to find Tsunade, with Hashirama, Madara, and Tobirama secretly following.
Zhang Yu reunited Tsunade with Hashirama and Tobirama, helped persuade her to become the Fifth Hokage, and used Madara to intimidate Itachi and Orochimaru. The group left Tanzaku Town and set out for Konoha with Tsunade joining them as Hokage.
Zhang Yu helped the Hyuga Clan remove the Caged Bird Seals, heal its division, and reunite Neji with his resurrected father, Hizashi. After gaining a major reward, Zhang Yu continued inviting people to the summer festival by visiting Ino.
Zhang Yu prepared Konoha’s Summer Festival, drawing residents together with invitations, food, cosplay photos, and fireworks. After the celebration, he considered summoning the Sage of Six Paths but found himself nearly six million gold coins short.
Zhang Yu summoned Hagoromo and Hamura, then led the pursuit of Sasuke while recruiting Tayuya and bringing the Nine-Tails’ consciousness to the Undead Tavern. Sasuke escaped toward Orochimaru after defeating Naruto, who recovered in Konoha Hospital, while Yugao confessed her love and Jiraiya learned of Tsunade’s return.
Zhang Yu assembled a team to gather the Tailed Beasts, recruited Tsunade as a tavern employee, and became Acting Hokage while pursuing an alliance among the nations. In the Land of Water, Kurama subdued the rampaging Three-Tails, and Zhang Yu told Mei Terumi he had come to seek an alliance.
