Background / History

Rescue and New Identity

Originally named Bibi Dong, Wang Dong'er lost her mother in a village massacre. After Spirit Hall helped bury the dead, she paid her respects at her mother’s grave and asked Wang Xiaoming to take her with him. He accepted her as his younger sister, named her Wang Dong'er, and brought her through the Dimensional Wall to his home 38.

Wang Xiaoming initially investigated whether he had visited his own world’s past. A barcode he carved into an old locust tree was absent from the corresponding tree at home, leading him to suspect a parallel world instead. He instructed Dong'er to conceal her original name and present herself as his sister, then had Meng Zhuang arrange her room, meals, and clothing 38 39.

Choosing Her Own Future

Wang Xiaoming later explained the differences between their worlds and the future in which she would become Pope. Dong'er had previously assumed that her original name was being hidden simply because she shared the Pope’s name. She feared that his explanation meant he intended to leave her behind 60.

Once assured that the choice was hers, she chose to remain with him rather than pursue that future. After awakening her Twin Martial Souls, she returned to her mother’s grave, cleaned the gravestone, and said goodbye before leaving for another world 60.

Academy Life and the Suotuo Journey

Following a five-year time skip, Wang Xiaoming cut Dong'er’s hair short and used his connections to secure her admission to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Xue Qinghe, Snake Lance, and Pufferfish found her familiar but did not connect her to Bibi Dong. Despite beginning cultivation a year later than the others, she progressed quickly enough to impress the academy’s three education committee members 61 64.

Dong'er accompanied Wang Xiaoming and Ning Rongrong to Suotuo City. When Ma Hongjun harassed them and insulted Rongrong, she demanded an apology and later warned him that his conduct and damage to a stall could result in fines and imprisonment 63 66 68.

She questioned Shrek Academy’s remote location and poor facilities, and worried about leaving Rongrong there. Afterward, Wang Xiaoming helped Dong'er obtain a suitable Soul Ring and sent her with the Imperial Fighting Team so it could field seven members in team battles 80 82 87.

Wind Salt City

Dong'er joined Wang Xiaoming and Zhu Meiyu in Wind Salt City during their search for the Breaking Clan. There, Hu Liena noticed her extraordinary resemblance to her teacher, the Pope. Dong'er misunderstood Hu Liena’s attempt to question her and withdrew into a medicine hall 107 108.

During the Fallen Soul Masters’ attack, Dong'er fought the attacking bats and exposed her Death Spider Emperor Martial Soul to Hu Liena. She later cooperated with Wang Xiaoming’s Final Form Ride, becoming the weapon he used to break through the Fallen Soul Saint’s Martial Soul Avatar. The transformation left her severely drained, although she subsequently helped defend the city from its perimeter wall 119 123 124 125.

After the battle, she followed Wang Xiaoming’s cue to decline Hu Liena’s invitation to visit Spirit Hall, citing their academy training. Before returning to Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Wang Xiaoming took her to the Flower God Festival she had wanted to attend 127.

Appearance

Dong'er has purple hair and purple eyes, with a close resemblance to the Bibi Dong who serves as Pope in Wang Xiaoming’s world 39 108.

Personality

Dong'er is initially cautious, shy, and sensitive to others’ moods. She asks whether Wang Xiaoming is unhappy, hides behind him when formally addressed by Meng Zhuang, and worries that Xiaoming’s prank might suffocate the elderly steward. Her attachment to her new family becomes central to her decision to abandon the future awaiting her in her original world 39 60.

As she grows older, she becomes capable and observant, handling affairs throughout the viscount’s residence well. She also stands up for Rongrong against harassment and remains concerned about her comfort at Shrek despite their rivalry for Wang Xiaoming’s attention 64 66 87.

Her affection for Wang Xiaoming develops romantic implications. She watches other women’s approaches closely, recognizes Rongrong’s attempt to gain time alone with him, and becomes especially jealous of Hu Liena. Her wish to remain with him forever is described as practically a confession, though their relationship continues to be publicly presented as that of adopted siblings 63 112 113 118.
