Background / History

Early encounters with Fang Yi

Ling Qingzhu first met Fang Yi at an exchange between the Dao Sect and Nine Heavens Taiqing Palace, eight years before her later confession. He defeated her within a few moves, and his growing strength continued to impress her during subsequent visits 61.

Fang Yi sought her hand in marriage through Ying Xuanzi when he was twelve, but the proposal was rejected. Ling Qingzhu’s cultivation method forbade her from losing her virginity, while a marriage alliance also risked provoking the Yuan Sect. After defeating her in a challenge, Fang Yi marked her wrist with the Five Emperor Great Demon Seal, declaring that his proposal remained in effect until she removed it. Her repeated attempts to defeat him only strengthened the mark 3.

Although initially angry at his behavior, she gradually began anticipating his visits. When he stopped coming after reaching Nirvana, she sought to catch up with him and eventually repay him by placing a green lotus mark on his body 61.

The Nirvana Heart

Using information from her palace’s ancient records, Ling Qingzhu searched the Ancient Tomb Mansion for a Nirvana Heart. She recognized Fang Yi’s seal on its broken entrance and learned that he had already taken the heart to Yan City 1.

Fang Yi warned that the heart contained conflicting yin and yang energies, along with restrictions that would reduce its effectiveness if forcibly removed. He offered assistance in exchange for marking her lower abdomen. She refused, but accepted a revised condition allowing an imprint on her lower back. Without her knowledge, the imprint recorded her Supreme Induction Art for Fang Yi 3 4.

After reaching Nirvana, she attacked him in anger, but he suppressed her with spiritual power, physically punished her, and deepened the seal. Realizing that he was also at least a Heavenly Symbol Master left her newfound confidence shaken. She subsequently returned to the palace to cultivate 5 6.

The sect exchange

News that Fang Yi had killed a Life Profound Realm expert astonished Ling Qingzhu. Yi Taiqing noticed her distraction and warned against allowing feelings to interfere with cultivation, but also offered the palace’s support if she wished to speak against the Yuan Sect’s ambush 41.

Nearly half a year after their previous meeting, Ling Qingzhu visited the Dao Sect ahead of the next exchange. Representing her master’s proposal, she recommended replacing conventional matches with demonic-beast hunting in the Ten Thousand Beast Mountain Range. The plan used points, restricted participation to disciples at Two Yuan Nirvana or above, and divided the terrain into areas appropriate to different cultivation levels 53 54 55.

Supreme Power and her relationship with Fang Yi

During the visit, Ling Qingzhu sought an explanation for her increasingly intense reactions to Fang Yi. They discovered that his Supreme Dao Scripture, special constitution, and Supreme Power strongly attracted her Supreme Induction Art. His energy could deepen her comprehension, and she later exchanged a kiss for a drop of his golden blood 55 56 57.

She eventually acknowledged that her feelings had developed over years rather than appearing only during this visit. Hoping their cultivation methods might be compatible, she asked for his Essence Energy to test whether intimacy would harm her art. During their subsequent intimate joint cultivation, Fang Yi taught her the Supreme Dao Scripture, removing the former method’s restrictions and enabling her to produce Supreme Power 61 62.

Before returning home, she planned to report both the exchange proposal and their relationship to her master. She agreed to help persuade Yi Taiqing to cooperate with Fang Yi, while temporarily withholding the Supreme Dao Scripture at his request. She also questioned whether he genuinely loved her or had pursued her only for her sect’s art; he assured her that he liked her 64 65.

Appearance

Ling Qingzhu wears a plain, light-colored dress and a thin facial veil, with bright eyes, feather-like brows, snow-white skin, and a slender waist 1.

• Azure lotus mount: Frequently appears standing or traveling on the Azure Sky Lotus 1 6.
• Wrist seal: Fang Yi’s original Five Emperor Great Demon Seal, repeatedly strengthened after her defeats 3.

Personality

Ling Qingzhu usually maintains a cool, aloof bearing, but Fang Yi repeatedly disrupts her composure. She answers his teasing with blunt insults and refuses to treat accepting a useful resource as approval of his behavior 3 4 6.

She is proud and competitive, treating the wrist seal as a reminder to cultivate harder. Her desire to surpass Fang Yi persists even as her anger develops into affection 4 61.

Her commitment to the palace and its pursuit of Supreme Power initially leads her to suppress her feelings. Once she recognizes a possible way to preserve her cultivation, she becomes more direct about pursuing the relationship. She nevertheless wants reassurance that Fang Yi values her personally rather than merely as a source of martial knowledge 61 65.
