Ch. 22The king and the mountain bandit chief

Sun Fei questioned Brook about Chambord City and the wider Azeroth Continent, learning that his kingdom was a tiny sixth-tier vassal state of the weak Zenit Empire in a world dominated by constant war. He then asked about Chambord’s powerful figures and learned that Bazel had ruled in his place while Petr Čech had been imprisoned for alleged treason.

  • Sun Fei used Brook’s trust to ask about Chambord City and learned that it had fewer than 10,000 people and was a sixth-tier vassal of the Zenit Empire.
  • Brook explained that the Zenit Empire was a weak level-one empire and that constant wars plagued the vast Azeroth Continent.
  • Brook told Sun Fei that the enemy camp had sealed the roads out of Chambord City, preventing the kingdom from requesting help from the Zenit Empire.
  • Sun Fei learned that Bazel had exercised the king’s powers for two or three years, while Frank Lampard controlled the army.
  • Brook named Conca, Oleg, and Petr Čech among Chambord’s powerful figures and revealed that Bazel had imprisoned Čech for alleged treason.

Ch. 23He Is a Beast

Sun Fei learned more about Chambord’s factions, ordered Gejir conscripted, and took the night watch, but he could not enter Diablo because his mental energy was depleted. Across the river, the silver-masked commander questioned Langde about the battle and focused on the armored bull who had appeared.

  • Brook told Sun Fei that Best had left Chambord with palace treasure before the attack, while Conca and Oleg avoided the fighting and Lampard was the city’s strongest warrior.
  • Sun Fei ordered Brook to rest and conscripted Bazel’s mage son Gejir to defend the city; Brook swore loyalty to the king.
  • Sun Fei inspected the defenses, tried and failed to enter Diablo for lack of mental energy, and fell asleep at his post.
  • In the enemy camp, Langde recounted how Sun Fei had injured him and reported Lampard’s apparent hidden injury to the silver-masked man.
  • The silver-masked man showed little interest in Langde’s assessment of Lampard and asked instead about the armored bull who had appeared in battle.

Ch. 24Two Completely Opposing Orders

The silver-masked man ordered his forces to trick Chambord City into surrendering before killing its people, while planning to capture Sun Fei and Angela. Sun Fei woke during his watch to find Angela and Jima asleep on the city wall as dawn approached.

  • Langde described Sun Fei as a ferocious, naturally strong fighter, and the silver-masked man decided he wanted to capture him for the imperial arena.
  • The silver-masked man ordered [One], [Sixteen], [Seventeen], and [Eighteen] to offer Chambord City false terms of surrender, while telling [Two], [Three], [Four], [Five], and [Six] to kill everyone except Angela and Sun Fei if the gates opened.
  • The silver-masked man ordered Langde to kill Chambord City's Three-Star Swordsman and had his forces prepare to move at sunrise.
  • The cloaked mage warned that Chambord City had a hidden Three-Star Mage, and the silver-masked man asked his teacher to eliminate the threat.
  • Sun Fei woke from his night watch and found Angela asleep beside him after she had covered him with a blanket; he tucked it around her and left her undisturbed.
  • Sun Fei noticed Jima dozing beside the collapsed entrance to the tower as the morning breeze stirred her hair and clothes.

Ch. 25The Soldiers with Whip Marks Across Their Faces

Sun Fei comforted Jima and promised himself to protect Angela, then strengthened his bond with Pierce and Brook as dawn approached. When Brook reported that Bazel had whipped two soldiers sent to summon Gejir, Sun Fei was enraged.

  • Sun Fei wrapped his cloak around Jima, and she urged him to treat and protect Angela as Angela had protected Alexander.
  • Sun Fei welcomed Pierce’s apology and accepted his pledge of loyalty after his wounds healed.
  • Brook and Pierce told Sun Fei that the enemy camp’s unusual silence broke with the dawn horn and preparations for battle.
  • Sun Fei put Brook in command of the city’s defense and asked where Gejir was.
  • Brook returned with two soldiers whose faces bore whip marks and reported that Bazel had sent them back, claiming Gejir was injured.
  • Sun Fei grew furious at the sight of the soldiers’ wounds.

Ch. 26The King Has the Final Say

Sun Fei moved to enforce his authority over Chambord City’s nobles as the enemy army assembled across the river. After publicly beating Gejir and rejecting Bazel’s demands, he left Gejir awake and ordered him to fight on the wall.

  • Sun Fei ordered Pierce to bring Gejir to the wall and sent for military magistrate Conca and jailer Oleg, threatening to kill anyone who resisted.
  • Sun Fei asked Angela and Jima to fetch Lampard, then arranged for Angela and Jima to stay with the wounded instead of facing the battle on the wall.
  • Black infantry formations began assembling across the river as Pierce brought the bound Gejir to Sun Fei, accompanied by Bazel.
  • Bazel demanded that Sun Fei explain why Gejir had been seized, but Sun Fei slapped Gejir unconscious and declared that a king owed him no explanation.
  • Bazel apologized and asked to take Gejir home to recover, but Sun Fei ordered a soldier to douse him with cold water and insisted he fight on the wall.

Ch. 27Who the Fuck Do You Think You Are?

Sun Fei confronted the military judge Conca after he tried to protect Gejir and abuse the wounded soldiers. He struck Conca down and condemned his cowardice, while the soldiers rallied to his words.

  • Sun Fei ordered Brook to free Bazel and send Gejir to the gatehouse with guards.
  • Conca rushed in, kicked the soldiers carrying Gejir, and demanded that they fetch a stretcher and summon physicians.
  • Sun Fei identified himself as the one who had hurt Gejir, but Conca dismissed him and claimed that he himself was military law in Chambord City.
  • Sun Fei kicked Conca into the wall, and Conca quickly knelt and begged for forgiveness after realizing the king had changed.
  • Sun Fei brought the wounded soldiers before Conca and condemned him for hiding while they fought to defend the kingdom.

Ch. 28An Instant Kill, and Another

Sun Fei sentenced Military Judge Conca to death for treason, but Conca took him hostage and demanded gold and horses. Sun Fei killed Conca with a punch and a spear, leaving the soldiers and Frank Lampard stunned by another instant kill.

  • Sun Fei accused Conca of fleeing before battle and violating military law, and Brook confirmed that the crimes warranted execution.
  • Sun Fei condemned Conca to death, while Herald Bazel refused to intervene and the soldiers cheered.
  • Conca seized Sun Fei by the neck and demanded gold coins and two fast horses, forcing Lampard to step back.
  • Sun Fei calmly told Conca he would not live to enjoy the loot, then punched him into the air and shattered his Dou Qi.
  • Sun Fei hurled a spear through Conca's heart, pinning him to the gatehouse wall and astonishing everyone with the instant kill.

Ch. 29The King's Sword

Sun Fei killed Conca and used the King's Sword to appoint Pierce as military magistrate, strengthening the soldiers’ resolve to defend Chambord City. He ordered Warden Oleg to hold a dangerous gap in the wall as the coming battle approached.

  • Sun Fei, Lampard, Brook, and Bazel reacted to Sun Fei’s unexplained strength after he killed Conca.
  • Sun Fei appointed Pierce military magistrate and gave him the King's Sword, ordering him to enforce discipline even against the king.
  • Pierce raised the sword and rallied Chambord City's soldiers to fight for Sun Fei, and their doubts about their king faded.
  • Sun Fei called for Warden Oleg, who crawled forward and begged for mercy after witnessing Conca's death.
  • Sun Fei ordered Oleg to defend a gap in the wall, and Oleg accepted despite fearing the danger.

Ch. 30Surrender and Be Spared

Sun Fei prepared Chambord City’s undermanned defenses as a disciplined black-armored army approached. The enemy offered surrender under threat of a three-day massacre, and Sun Fei asked the gathered officials and citizens what they should do, leaving Oleg to argue for accepting the offer.

  • Brook organized the king’s guard and conscripted townspeople along the walls while Sun Fei worried about the enemy’s strength.
  • The black-armored army advanced across the bridge, then halted as four knights rode forward to negotiate.
  • Black Knight [One] demanded that Sun Fei surrender, promising protection for the royal family and officials while threatening to enslave commoners and slaughter the city if it resisted.
  • Sun Fei asked the people on the wall to weigh the enemy’s offer, and Oleg urged surrender while claiming he spoke for the subjects’ safety.

Ch. 31Now That Was an Expert

Sun Fei rallied Chambord City to reject surrender, and Frank Lampard killed Black Knight One after the knight insulted the king and violated battlefield customs. Sun Fei then used his Howl skill to frighten the black knights’ horses, leaving the confrontation unresolved.

  • Pierce, Brook, Bazel, and the gathered soldiers urged Sun Fei to fight rather than surrender, and Sun Fei publicly rejected the enemy’s offer.
  • Black Knight One threatened Chambord City and its people, then knocked aside Pierce’s arrow and rode away.
  • Frank Lampard leaped from the wall and beheaded Black Knight One in a swift strike, declaring that the knight had insulted his king and broken negotiation customs.
  • Sun Fei shouted Howl at the remaining black knights, targeting their horses with the skill.

Ch. 32Three pieces of yellow equipment

Sun Fei and Lampard’s actions restored Chambord City’s morale, but the silver-masked commander delayed his attack until after lunch, hoping the defenders would grow weary. With the enemy still holding position, Sun Fei entered Diablo World to strengthen himself and collected three pieces of unidentified yellow equipment.

  • Sun Fei’s Howl frightened the black horses, and Chambord’s defenders jeered at the Black Knights and rallied their spirits.
  • The silver-masked man restrained his knights and ordered the army to attack after lunch, when he expected Chambord City’s morale to falter.
  • Brook sent scouts to guard the other approaches, while Sun Fei arranged rotating watches to keep the defenders rested.
  • Sun Fei entered Diablo World as a barbarian, cleared the respawned monsters from the graveyard, and collected three yellow items, three blue items, and 600 gold coins.

Ch. 33Beautiful Mercenary

Sun Fei prepared to level up quickly by identifying and equipping three powerful items, then claimed his reward for killing Blood Raven. He gained Elena as a mercenary and accepted a quest to rescue Cain, leaving the story poised for a dangerous journey through the Underground Passage.

  • Sun Fei returned to the Rogue Encampment, bought tomes and scrolls from Sister Akara, and identified his new equipment.
  • Sun Fei equipped the Soul Emblem Buckler, Storm Piercer Dagger, and Bronze Self-Repair Heavy Gloves, then sold spare gear and bought a helmet and boots from Charsi.
  • Sun Fei turned in the Blood Raven quest to Kashya and received Elena as his personal mercenary.
  • Sun Fei accepted Akara's quest to find and rescue Cain by reaching the Dark Wood, retrieving a scroll, and opening a portal at the Stony Field.

Ch. 34An Unexpected Turn

Sun Fei and Elena ventured into the Underground Passage on their way to find the Tree of Inifuss, fighting monsters together as they grew more coordinated. The chapter ended when Elena suddenly cried out in distress behind Sun Fei.

  • Sun Fei bought Elena a bow and protective equipment before leaving the Rogue Encampment.
  • Sun Fei noticed that Elena could not see the equipment dropped by monsters and wondered if only he could collect such drops.
  • Sun Fei led Elena into the Underground Passage and told her to stay behind him while he took the front.
  • Sun Fei and Elena fought their way through the passage, with Sun Fei attacking nearby monsters and Elena killing distant enemies with ice arrows.
  • Elena suddenly cried out in panic and grief behind Sun Fei.

Ch. 35Elena's Surprise

Sun Fei and Elena found the tortured body of Nina, a missing Rogue, in the Underground Passage, and buried her before continuing to the Dark Wood. After Sun Fei retrieved the Tree of Inifuss scroll and returned to the Rogue Encampment with Elena, he went to Akara for a translation while Elena stood guard by the portal.

  • Elena recognized the dead Rogue as Nina, a seventeen-year-old companion who had disappeared a month earlier, and mourned her brutal death.
  • Sun Fei buried Nina and found a packet of plant seeds on her body, which Elena carefully kept.
  • Sun Fei and Elena continued through the Underground Passage, buried several other dead Rogues, and reached the Dark Wood.
  • They fought their way to the Tree of Inifuss, where Sun Fei retrieved a parchment scroll and collected equipment dropped by monsters.
  • Sun Fei opened a Town Portal, and Elena wondered how many Rogues might have survived if they had had such scrolls.
  • At the Rogue Encampment, Sun Fei took the scroll to Akara for translation while Elena guarded the portal; he returned a few minutes later and asked why she had not gone to speak with her sisters.

Ch. 36Tristram

Sun Fei opened the portal to Tristram and fought through its monsters with Elena, while Chambord City’s defenders endured the enemy’s prolonged, motionless siege. Sun Fei and Elena cleared the first wave and encountered Skeleton Archers as he prepared to attack them.

  • Sun Fei activated the five stone pillars and opened a portal to Tristram, warning Elena to stay close and retreat if the fighting became dangerous.
  • Sun Fei entered Tristram and was attacked by skeletons, zombies, and Fallen; Elena followed and supported him with ice arrows.
  • Sun Fei used his Howl skill and healing potion to repel the monsters, and he and Elena defeated the first wave after more than ten minutes.
  • In Chambord City, Brook and the defenders waited under pressure as the black-clad enemy remained stationed on the bridge without attacking.
  • Sun Fei and Elena encountered Skeleton Archers, and Sun Fei switched to his dagger and buckler to strike a skeleton hiding around a corner.

Ch. 37My Lord, Please Don't Dismiss Me

Sun Fei and Elena were overwhelmed by Skeleton Archers in Tristram, forcing him to escape with her to the Rogue Encampment. After treating his wounds, Sun Fei planned to return alone, but Elena feared he was dismissing her and pleaded to stay with him.

  • Sun Fei killed a Skeleton Archer with his poisoned dagger, then drew the attention of the remaining archers.
  • Elena disobeyed Sun Fei's order to retreat and advanced into the arrow storm, where she was badly wounded by arrows and a lightning attack.
  • Sun Fei caught Elena, gave her a Minor Healing Potion, frightened the monsters with Howl, and escaped with her through a Scroll of Town Portal.
  • Back at the Rogue Encampment, Sun Fei healed himself and Elena, then told her to stay behind while he returned to Tristram alone.
  • Elena panicked and pleaded with Sun Fei not to dismiss her, while he remained unaware that the Rogue Encampment depended on adventurers like him.

Ch. 38The Plan Begins

Sun Fei cleared Tristram, defeated Griswold, rescued Cain, and reached level 12 before preparing to test exchanging Diablo World supplies into the real world. The exchange succeeded for two Healing Potions and one Stamina Potion, while the other three potions failed.

  • Sun Fei sent Elena back through the portal, then used Howl and his Barbarian strength to defeat the Skeleton Archers and Night Clan monsters in Tristram.
  • Sun Fei fought and killed Griswold, found the green Arctic Furs Quilted Armor among the drops, and equipped it.
  • Sun Fei cleared the rest of Tristram, rescued Cain from his cage, and returned to the Rogue Encampment to claim his mission rewards.
  • Sun Fei reached level 12, allocated his attribute and skill points, had Cain identify his equipment, and sold the items he could not use.
  • Sun Fei bought potions and asked the mysterious voice to exchange them, learning that his level was too low to exchange a Scroll of Town Portal.
  • Sun Fei confirmed the exchange of five Healing Potions and two Stamina Potions; two Healing Potions and one Stamina Potion were successfully exchanged.

Ch. 39Mage, Paladin, and Necromancer

Sun Fei used his remaining Diablo World time to level his mage, paladin, and necromancer in separate parallel spaces, choosing skills he hoped to use in the coming real-world battle. He set out as a level 3 necromancer to kill Blood Raven and reach level 6, but a growing horde of nighttime monsters began chasing him.

  • Sun Fei left his level 12 Barbarian and entered a separate Rogue Encampment as a mage, where he reached level 3 and learned Fire Bolt, Charged Bolt, and Ice Bolt.
  • Sun Fei activated his paladin, cleared the Den of Evil, reached level 3, and spent skill points on Might and Prayer.
  • Sun Fei entered another parallel Rogue Encampment as a necromancer, reached level 3, and learned Teeth and Amplify Damage while planning to learn Corpse Explosion.
  • Sun Fei accepted Kashya's Blood Raven quest, bought potions with his remaining gold, and raced toward the Burial Grounds at night.
  • Nighttime monsters including Fallen, Dark Huntresses, and Gargantuan Beasts gathered into a huge pursuing horde behind Sun Fei.

Ch. 40The King Returns to the Real World

Sun Fei fought through hordes of monsters in the Diablo World, reached level six, and learned Corpse Explosion just before his time limit expired. Back in Chambord City, he sensed his necromancer power and discovered he could use only one character’s abilities at a time, then switched to barbarian mode as the battle neared.

  • Sun Fei lured and killed hundreds of monsters, then pressed on into the Cold Plains while fighting off ever-growing hordes.
  • As the Diablo World time limit began, Sun Fei killed enough monsters to reach level six and put his new skill point into Corpse Explosion before returning to the real world.
  • On Chambord City’s walls, Frank Lampard, Oleg, Brook, and Gejir sensed a powerful energy coming from the ruined stone house, while the exhausted defenders awaited the enemy’s attack.
  • Sun Fei assessed the stalled siege and expected the enemy commander to attack around lunchtime, then tested the powers he had brought back from Diablo.
  • After learning he could access only one character’s abilities at a time, Sun Fei switched from necromancer mode to barbarian mode.

Ch. 41An Unexpected Heaven-Defying Discovery

After reaching level 12 in Barbarian Mode, Sun Fei discovered that his Diablo equipment and its abilities could manifest in the real world. He tested the gear’s powers and ended the chapter with a rock and potions stored in his belt.

  • Sun Fei noticed that his barbarian armor and other equipment had appeared on his body, and the mysterious voice explained that level 10 adventurers could manifest their gear in the real world.
  • Sun Fei summoned his great axe, then switched between it and his dagger and buckler simply by thinking about them.
  • Sun Fei hid his Diablo armor and restored his real-world clothes, while his original heavy knight’s armor remained discarded in a corner.
  • Sun Fei tested whether his magical equipment retained its abilities by placing a rock in his belt, and it vanished into one of the belt’s eight storage slots alongside his potions.
