- Bearing: Upright and resolute, maintaining a straight-backed posture despite visible weariness 8.
Personality
Jean places Mondstadt’s residents above material possessions and institutional interests. She rewards Lawrence for abandoning his sword to save Timmie, emphasizing that a resident’s life matters more than a weapon. Her protective instincts also make her quick to act: upon learning that Ye Xuan and Ronova attacked people in Mondstadt, she immediately confronts them with force 8 9.
Although diplomatic toward powerful visitors, Jean does not unquestioningly excuse misconduct. She intervenes to defuse Eula’s confrontation with Ye Xuan, but later condemns Kaeya’s decision to make the Lawrence Clan take the blame for the leaked defense plans. His actions shock her precisely because she had trusted him 13 31.
Her sense of responsibility frequently becomes self-reproach. After returning to the devastated city, she calls herself incompetent and asks Barbatos to take charge. Overwork and anger cause her to collapse, though she remains alert enough to object to Klee’s fish blasting even during her recovery 31.
Abilities & Skills
Anemo Manipulation
Jean channels wind through her sword using Gale Blade 8.
- Produces a fierce gust with Aquila Favonia.
- Uses the technique against Ye Xuan and Ronova during their first confrontation.
- The gust dislodges Ronova’s hairpin; Venti catches it before it strikes the floor 8.
Swordsmanship
Jean wields Aquila Favonia in combat and when carrying out Barbatos’s sentence against Swan 8 16 31.
- Defeats Swan with only two sword strikes despite his Delusion-enhanced Electro power.
- Swan’s strength is described as reaching Razor’s level, but remains insufficient to challenge her 31.

- Arranges premises for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor’s Mondstadt branch.
- Orders the transfer of funeral services and directs Cardinal Calvin to arrange church taxation 9.
- Secures Ye Xuan’s agreement to treat Mondstadt’s casualties 32.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Wangsheng Funeral Parlor’s Arrival
Jean receives Ye Xuan and Ronova at the Knights’ headquarters to discuss opening a Wangsheng Funeral Parlor branch. She initially explains that Mondstadt’s funeral affairs already belong to the Cathedral of Favonius and questions whether a Liyue establishment would attract business 7 8.
The meeting escalates when Kaeya reports the visitors’ attacks on a resident and a knight. Jean uses Gale Blade, inadvertently endangering Ronova’s treasured hairpin. Venti intervenes and reveals himself as Barbatos; afterward, he warns Jean that damaging the ornament could have brought calamity upon Mondstadt 8.
Following Barbatos’s decree, Jean transfers funeral services to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor despite Cardinal Calvin’s objections, orders him to address the church’s tax obligations, and leaves Barbara to manage the handover while she finds suitable premises. She also rewards Lawrence with permission to select a Favonius Sword for saving Timmie, presenting the visitors’ earlier actions as a secret test by Barbatos’s elders 9.
At a later restaurant confrontation, Jean protects Eula from further escalation and confirms that the shop arrangements are complete. After Ye Xuan identifies himself as the Fifth Descender and Ronova introduces herself as a former Ruler of Death, Jean formally welcomes them on Mondstadt’s behalf 13.
The Holy Lyre Ambush
Warned by Ye Xuan that the Holy Lyre der Himmel will be stolen, Jean joins Amber, Kaeya, Lisa, and the others in hiding at the cathedral. She objects when Ye Xuan and Ronova play Pokémon instead of quietly maintaining the ambush 16.
An Electro Cicin Mage steals the lyre before Lumine can take it. Jean prepares to pursue, but stops when Ye Xuan explains that Diluc is waiting outside. She then draws Aquila Favonia and helps surround Lumine and Paimon as they attempt to escape. Subsequent discussions lead Jean and the others to suspect a Fatui spy in the tavern 16 17.
Absence and Mondstadt’s Collapse
Jean is among those trapped in Asmoday’s spatial labyrinth. During her absence, Lisa commands Mondstadt’s defenders, while Fatui interference, the defense-plan scandal, and Abyss attacks undermine the Knights’ authority 21 25 30.
After escaping, Jean learns that civilians and knights have been massacred, Kaeya has been taken by the Abyss, and the Lawrence Clan has relocated to Liyue. Venti sends her and Diluc back while he and Lumine remain to deal with Dvalin 30.
At Dawn Winery, Jean condemns Kaeya’s use of a fake defense plan to implicate the Lawrence Clan. Learning that Eula, Amber, and the Reconnaissance Company have also left the Knights overwhelms her; she faints from overwork and anger 31.
Swan’s Judgment
Jean returns to Mondstadt with Venti, Lumine, and Paimon aboard Dvalin. Faced with the city’s devastation, she kneels before Venti and asks him to protect Mondstadt, helping confirm his identity as Barbatos before the citizens 31.
Barbatos exposes Swan’s collaboration with the Fatui and murder of Lawrence, then orders Jean to execute him. Swan retaliates with his Electro Delusion, but Jean kills him in two sword strikes 31.
Rescue and Recovery
When Venti reveals that the casualties have been suspended at the instant before death, Jean immediately seeks Ye Xuan’s help. Following Venti’s instructions, she offers one million Mora per person to treat more than eight hundred injured and apparently dead civilians and knights. Ye Xuan ultimately agrees, citing his good mood rather than the payment as his reason 32.
Jean attends the treatment as Venti safeguards the victims’ souls and Ye Xuan heals their bodies with the Horse Talisman. When Lawrence awakens and begins to identify his attacker, she tells him that Swan has already been executed 33.
After announcing Dvalin’s liberation from Abyss control, Jean asks Venti to help cover Mondstadt’s weakened defenses. When he claims to be injured, she counters with Ye Xuan’s warning that he is merely avoiding official duties. She leaves Diluc to supervise him and heads to the Church of Favonius after learning that Barbara now works with Ye Xuan 33.
Relationships
- Barbara Pegg — Younger sister. Jean’s manner softens around Barbara, and she entrusts her with the funeral-service handover. Barbara secretly accepts a karmic price to share Jean’s burden; Jean later becomes alarmed upon learning of her involvement with Ye Xuan 9 32 33.
- Venti / Barbatos — Mondstadt’s Archon, whom Jean reveres and turns to during the crisis. Her reverence does not prevent her from insisting that he perform official work when she learns his claimed injuries are an excuse 8 31 33.
- Ye Xuan — Initially an adversarial visitor, later the healer whose intervention she secures for Mondstadt. Her dealings with him concern the funeral-parlor branch, public safety, and recovery efforts; no romantic relationship is established 8 13 32 33.
- Ronova — A powerful visitor whom Jean initially attacks without understanding her identity. After Venti’s warning and Ronova’s formal introduction, Jean treats her with deference 8 13.
- Kaeya — A trusted colleague whose scapegoating of the Lawrence Clan deeply disappoints Jean 8 31.
- Lisa — Assumes command in Jean’s absence, briefs her on the crisis, and helps her recover after her collapse 21 31.
- Diluc — A dependable ally whose combat ability Jean trusts. She later asks him to watch Venti while she checks on Barbara 16 33.
- Lawrence — A knight Jean rewards for saving Timmie. After his revival, she informs him that she has executed his murderer 9 33.
- Klee — A knight Jean disciplines for fish blasting. Klee is frightened by Jean’s collapse and promises to stop 31.
