Dragon-Taught Magic and Fairy Tail

Natsu learned his magic from a dragon. Makarov identifies this inheritance while explaining that Lost Magic is passed down, contrasting Natsu’s known teacher with Lin Yuan’s unexplained abilities 27.

Already a Fairy Tail member when Lin Yuan arrives, Natsu introduces himself by asking whether the newcomer is good at fighting. His immediate argument with Gray helps establish the guild’s frequently destructive atmosphere 4.

First Duel with Lin Yuan

When Lin Yuan is forbidden from using magic, Natsu proposes a fists-only match. Under Makarov’s supervision, he withstands throws and a joint lock, then begins adapting his footwork to imitate Lin Yuan’s control of distance. Natsu and Gray accompany Lin Yuan on his first independently led team mission. Lin Yuan’s Return and Later Events

When Lin Yuan returns after two years, Natsu rushes to greet him and says he looked for him several times. Gray reveals that these searches involved shouting outside the old castle—and, on one occasion, challenging the echo 154.

Natsu soon demands a rematch. Although substantially stronger, he cannot land a hit against Lin Yuan’s sword techniques. Lin Yuan splits his Fire Dragon’s Roar with a magic-infused strike, then defeats him with Nameless 155.

During Fantasia, Natsu shares a float with Gray, combining a fire-breathing dragon with an ice castle. Their intended joint performance becomes a struggle for control, scattering flames and ice along the parade route 176 178.

Later, Laxus knocks Natsu down with lightning before he can throw a punch, temporarily paralyzing him. Once recovered, Natsu still tries to demand another fight. He subsequently joins the guild’s farewell at Pine Needle Mountain, asking Lin Yuan for a rematch when he returns with Yui 181 183 186.

Natsu is intensely competitive and treats unfamiliar powers as invitations to fight. Losing generally increases his enthusiasm rather than discouraging him 4 7 35 155 157.

His impulsiveness frequently creates trouble. He proposes attacking a Magic Council messenger after mistaking routine questioning for an arrest, and asks Lin Yuan to aim the newly demonstrated Space God’s Roar at him despite its destructive aftermath 29 60.

Beneath the recklessness, he cares about his guildmates. He joins the celebration of Lin Yuan’s S-Class promotion, eagerly welcomes him home after his disappearance, and attends his later departure to retrieve Yui 51 154 186.
