Background / History

A demon attacked the church in Mirajane's village while Elfman and Lisanna were inside. Acting instinctively to protect them, she grabbed the demon and absorbed its power. When she regained awareness, the demon was gone, but her right arm had become demonic 9 11.

Despite having saved the villagers, Mirajane and her siblings were driven away with stones and called “demon's children.” She claimed not to care, but became frightened of her own arm: she slept uneasily, kept some distance from her siblings, and hugged Lisanna only with her left hand 9 11.

The three eventually reached Fairy Tail. Makarov offered food, beds, and membership without demanding an explanation of their origins. He acknowledged the risk of Mirajane losing control but promised to teach her rather than send the children back onto the road 9.

Appearance

Mirajane has white hair. Early after joining Fairy Tail, she wears a cloak over her permanently transformed right arm 9 11.

Personality

Mirajane is confrontational, proud, and quick to challenge anyone she believes is talking down to her. Her first encounters with Erza and Lin Yuan turn into arguments, and she openly resists being ordered around. She is also competitive about ordinary tasks, turning shared cleanup work into a contest 9 10 11.

Her hostility toward being called a monster comes from the villagers' rejection and her fear of endangering her siblings. When Lin Yuan warns that her unstable magic could hurt them, she hears another demand to stay away from her family and attacks him. Even while attempting to control her arm, her first instruction is to evacuate Elfman and Lisanna if anything goes wrong 9 11.

She often conceals affection behind teasing or practical excuses. After mocking Lin Yuan's outgrown trousers for three days, she leaves him a new pair while claiming Lisanna bought the wrong size. Later, she welcomes him to family meals and gives him a personalized pendant to remind him where he belongs 44 163 180 186.

Joining Fairy Tail

Lin Yuan's warning about her unstable magic provokes Mirajane into attacking him on her first day. Their fight damages the guild hall, and her siblings eventually explain that he was concerned for their safety rather than demanding her expulsion 9 10.

While repairing the damage, Lin Yuan helps her achieve her first partial reversal. The attempt then becomes a rampage when Lisanna approaches. With her siblings calling to her and Lin Yuan containing her through folded space, Mirajane regains enough control to negotiate for two pieces of cake and retract the expanded transformation 11 12.

Sunken Bell Town

During her first job, a cursed object imitates the villagers' accusations to unsettle her. Recognizing that one transformed arm cannot destroy it, she deliberately activates full Satan Soul while her teammates stand ready to intervene 20.

She becomes the team's main physical attacker. With Macao restraining the enemy, Wakaba clearing her view, and Lin Yuan folding the distance to its core, she tears out the stone fragment sustaining it. Three punches through a repeating spatial route destroy the core 21 22.

The S-Class Rivalry

An inconclusive duel leads Mirajane and Lin Yuan to wager that whoever becomes S-Class first can ask one thing of the loser. She pursues jobs and compares completion records with him as her Take Over becomes more stable 30 39 44.

Lin Yuan earns the rank first, but Mirajane insists their competition is not finished. She later accompanies him on missions despite not yet being S-Class herself 51 52 53.

Lin Yuan's Disappearance and Return

During the castle mission, Mirajane protects Lin Yuan from a six-armed puppet and throws it into the giant clock as he cuts its remaining connections 75.

When an expanding rift threatens him, Lin Yuan forcibly relocates her outside its reach and seals her behind Space Lockdown. She breaks the barrier with three punches, but he is already being pulled apart into light by the rift 77.

Two years later, Mirajane brings him back to Fairy Tail. He subsequently discovers that she became S-Class during his absence 154 157.

Renewed Partnership and Romance

After his return, the two resume working together. Mirajane helps rescue captives from crystal constructs, defeats copies of herself, and invites Lin Yuan to dinner at the Strauss home 159 160 161 162 163.

She later selects a grape-picking request requiring exactly two people, then arranges a private duel to settle their old wager without guildmates interfering. Despite revealing Halphas, she loses when Lin Yuan immobilizes her arms and stops his sword beside her neck 170 172 173.

For Fantasia, she chooses Lin Yuan as her partner and sweeps eight hundred sheets of silver paper into the night sky with her wings. That evening, she accepts his house key and asks him to tell her before leaving for another world. She publicly declares herself the lady of his house the next day, and the guild recognizes them as lovers 174 178 179 180.

The Next Departure

When another rift appears, Mirajane asks whether Lin Yuan can take her with him. He explains that the World Marker cannot yet protect a second person and that maintaining her coordinates inside the rift would risk separating them 185.

Before he leaves, she fastens her commissioned pendant around his neck. She accepts his departure because he has told her beforehand, but insists that he find a way home as soon as possible and return with Yui 186.
