Liu Yunyi entered First High School undercover and drew attention through his magic and his connections with Tatsuya Shiba and Mayumi Saegusa. After an attack exposed his destructive abilities, he threatened that he might destroy the world if his goal failed, while Mayumi concealed what had happened from her father.
Yunyi helped expose and crush Blanche’s attack on First High while revealing his military identity and unusual magic to Mayumi Saegusa. He began pretending to be Mayumi’s boyfriend, secured a place in the Nine Schools Competition, and ended the stretch facing Miyuki Shiba in a match after declaring “Inscription!”
Yunyi grew closer to Mayumi Saegusa while preparing for the Nine Schools Competition and revealing his unusual magic. He won the Crowd Ball championship and left Third High School wary of facing him in Icicle Destruction.
Yunyi exposed No Head Dragon’s interference, faced attacks and rivalry while helping First High recover from Mari’s injury, and drew Mayumi closer despite their conflict over his plans. After joining Tatsuya and Mikihiko in Monolith Code, Yunyi prepared to face Masaki’s team himself.
Yunyi led First High School to victory at the Nine Schools Competition, exposed a terrorist branch, and grew closer to Mayumi as she moved in with him. After introducing Mayumi to his mother, Shen Yi, Yunyi left the arc preparing to challenge the military-focused magic system while Mayumi’s sisters questioned their relationship.
Yunyi supported Mayumi through her departure from First High and the upheaval surrounding his nomination as Public Morals Committee chair, while deepening his ties with the Saegusa family. The arc ended with Yunyi and Mayumi vacationing with the twins, where an unexplained sense of danger left everyone on watch.
Yunyi froze a tsunami threatening the Ogasawara Islands, then became entangled in the Yotsuba Clan’s plans and an attack on Shen Yi’s research ship. After the group returned to Tokyo, Yunyi rejected Koichi Saegusa’s offer of Japanese citizenship and began discussing the forces behind the public backlash, while Mayumi considered how to support him and her family.
Yunyi returned to the Great Asian Alliance, dismantled the Stick Faction, and expanded his influence while building ties in Japan. As he settled into First High School, Lina arrived under an American identity, and Yunyi prepared to test her in the arena.
Yunyi investigated the Parasites and the threat they posed to the Thesis Competition while reshaping the Public Morals Committee and preparing his allies. After a Parasite outbreak endangered Lina and STARS, Yunyi brought her home and began assembling a team to capture the creatures.
Yunyi and his allies destroyed the Parasites in Japan as Gu Jie and the American military prepared for a possible conflict. As Mayumi Saegusa protected her sisters and the Ten Master Clans learned Yunyi’s identity, Yunyi took a role guarding the Thesis Competition while Maya Yotsuba prepared to meet him.
Yunyi exposed his power to Japan’s clans, left the country with Mayumi and her sisters, and drew Japan and the Great Asian Alliance into war. After destroying the Japanese fleet, he advanced on Tsushima Fortress while Miyuki joined the Ten Master Clans as Maya’s chosen successor.
Yunyi helped drive Japan and America into open conflict while pursuing Gu Jie, then used Miyuki Shiba to force Tatsuya Shiba into attacking the Itsuwa Family. After returning Miyuki, Yunyi moved the Great Asian Alliance fleet toward Kyushu as Japanese forces came under missile attack.
Yunyi pressed his campaign to remake the world as the New Soviet Union and the United States invaded Japan alongside the Great Asian Alliance. The arc left Japan’s defenses collapsing, with American forces advancing toward Tokyo and Yunyi fighting the New Soviet army in Fukushima.
