Background

Miyuki grew up with Tatsuya and regarded Baifeng Uesugi as another older brother. Baifeng lived with both the Shiba siblings’ family and the Saegusa family during childhood. Maya Yotsuba appointed him as an additional guardian for Miyuki, alongside Tatsuya 3 10 71.

During childhood, Miyuki and Tatsuya suffered life-threatening injuries in an enemy attack. Baifeng saved both with his healing magic. Miyuki later recognized the same technique when he healed himself during the Nine Schools Competition 61.

Baifeng’s prolonged disappearance left Miyuki deeply distressed. When she eventually uncovered his identity at First High, he explained that he had left to protect her. His explanation strengthened her determination to become more powerful 4 35.

Personality

Miyuki is courteous and attentive to etiquette, frequently bowing and apologizing when she believes she has overstepped. Her politeness does not prevent her from challenging unfair treatment: she repeatedly defends Tatsuya’s abilities against judgments based on his Course 2 placement 4 6 10 12.

Her confidence in Tatsuya is grounded in familiarity with his actual capabilities. She remains composed when he defeats Hattori almost immediately, unlike the surprised senior students watching the match. Despite their closeness, she explicitly states that she has never considered her blood-related brother a romantic interest 13 41.

Miyuki’s affection for Baifeng is more openly possessive. She seeks his attention, becomes shy around him, and reacts jealously to his relationships with other women. Strong emotions can affect her magical control: frost forms around her when she suspects he has deceived her, and Mayumi later has to calm her after she learns that Mayumi has become his lover 34 41 59 69 90.

She also values fair competition and others’ safety. She refuses access to Shizuku’s tactical information before their potential match, worries about students threatened by sabotage, and confirms that no innocent people are at the conference hall entrance before freezing it 52 64 94.

Ice Magic and Niflheim

Miyuki specializes in ice magic, producing extreme cold powerful enough to dominate an opponent using fire magic 52.

• Niflheim: Uses the spell to overwhelm Shizuku and destroy all her remaining icicles, winning the final 54.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Enrollment and Student Council

Miyuki initially wants Tatsuya to deliver the freshman address in her place. He persuades her to accept the spotlight by telling her that Baifeng would be proud to watch her. She delivers the speech and is subsequently invited onto the Student Council 4 6 10.

She asks that Tatsuya be admitted as well, but learns that council membership is formally restricted to Course 1 students. She apologizes and accepts the secretary position. When Hattori later opposes Tatsuya’s appointment to the Public Morals Committee, she defends her brother’s combat ability before Tatsuya settles the dispute through a mock battle 11 12 13.

Reunion with Baifeng

During the journey to the Nine Schools Competition, Miyuki recognizes the flavor of Baifeng’s cooking in Shizuku’s bento. Seeing him use Double Casting confirms her suspicion that the student she knows is her missing older-brother figure. She confronts him about his disappearance and Tatsuya’s knowledge of his identity 34 35.

After Baifeng explains his reasons, Miyuki resumes openly seeking his company and support. He promises to watch every one of her competition events 35 36 41.

Nine Schools Competition

Conference Hall Attack

After armed invaders storm the conference hall, Miyuki verifies that the entrance contains no innocent bystanders and seals it with her Innate Magic. Her ice barrier contains the attackers while the defenders respond to the assault 94.

As Tatsuya prepares to join the wider battle, she removes the restrictions on his power, enabling him to fight as an SS-rank magician 97.
