Background / History

Reincarnation and Family Ties

Bai Feng was reincarnated into this world by an elderly man later revealed to hold the Main God’s position. Alone in his previous life, he initially approached his new surroundings with the detachment of someone who knew the story’s plot. He adopted the surname Uesugi from a character he liked in an anime from his previous life 3 4 9 99.

The Yotsuba and Saegusa families supported him, and both Maya Yotsuba and Koichi Saegusa wanted him to take their respective surnames. When neither prevailed, they left the choice to him. Maya appointed him as an additional guardian for Miyuki Shiba; Koichi responded by making him Mayumi Saegusa’s guardian as well. Because he had two charges, the position became largely nominal rather than requiring constant attendance 3 36.

Demon Hunter Pursuit

Three years before his identity was revealed at First High, Baifeng was ambushed on the battlefield and left gravely injured. After returning to the Saegusa family, he faced another attack in which Mayumi shielded him and was seriously wounded. Seeing her unconscious in his arms forced him to recognize how deeply attached he had become to the people of his new world 4 11.

His pursuers launched twenty-three attacks over a year, while even a joint investigation by the Ten Master Clans failed to uncover useful leads. To prevent further losses among those sheltering him, Baifeng arranged with Maya and Koichi to live separately and draw the attackers away. During his absence, he continued sending Maya modernized Ancient Magic sequences that secretly strengthened both families 4 36 80.

First High and Coffee Country

Baifeng entered First High as a disguised Course 2 student, concealing his appearance and aura even from the Shiba siblings and Mayumi. His attempt at an ordinary school life was interrupted almost immediately: after incapacitating Course 1 students who were harassing Miyuki’s group, he received a one-week suspension for using attack magic 5 6 8 30 75.

When Yakumo Kokonoe warned that people had come looking for him, Baifeng asked Maya to arrange a flight to Coffee Country. There, he deliberately displayed his original appearance to attract the Demon Hunters. He killed four pursuers, infiltrated their mountain base, and discovered that Pulisi had leaked its location to lure him into a trap 9 11 15 16.

During the ensuing battles, Baifeng destroyed much of the base, overcame Toris’s gravity-based ambush, and fought Pulisi’s group through the night. Nearly exhausted, he finally used his Innate Magic to freeze the remaining enemies, then collapsed with serious injuries. The battle nevertheless pushed him into SS rank 16 17 18 19 20.

Return and the Nine Schools Competition

While recovering, Baifeng continued protecting First High. After Blanche attacked the school, he reached its abandoned-factory base before Tatsuya’s group and froze its occupants alive. Tatsuya subsequently identified him by his unchanged psions, while Miyuki and Mayumi recognized him after seeing his cooking and Double Casting during the journey to the Nine Schools Competition 26 30 34 35.

Baifeng initially joined the competition only as an engineer. After Mari Watanabe’s accident jeopardized First High’s standing, Mayumi persuaded him to enter the men’s Surfing Race and Monolith Code. He won the Surfing Race and competed in Monolith Code alongside Tatsuya and Leonhard Saijou 41 47 48 55.

His efforts to conceal his distinctive magic complicated his match against Masaki Ichijo. Rather than openly reveal his abilities, he attempted to evade Ichijo’s barrage and suffered broken ribs and internal injuries. He used SS-class Super-Speed Healing to stand again, alarming Miyuki with how quickly his healing had improved 58 60 61.

Baifeng also helped investigate interference with competitors’ CADs and protected Miyuki’s inspection. Outside the venue, he killed No Head Dragon’s enhanced human No. 17 with molecular cutting; the body was subsequently found burning in black flames 64 67 68.

Homecoming, Engagement, and Research

After the competition, Shizuku Kitayama and Honoka Mitsui moved into Baifeng’s home. He later returned to the Yotsuba residence with Maya, where he could finally relax after years of fearing attacks even in his sleep. The families he had strengthened during his absence were now powerful enough to shelter him safely 75 77 79 80.

At Maya’s residence, Baifeng revisited the private courtyard he had planted for her coming-of-age ceremony. He also accepted an engagement to Mayumi, with the wedding postponed until after his graduation, and spent two days optimizing Katsuto Jumonji’s Phalanx 80 81 84 85.

His subsequent work focused on Innate Magic. After slightly more than a month, he mastered Absolute Defense and Eternal Night. He also planned to investigate reducing the mental capacity occupied by Tatsuya’s Regrowth and Decomposition, prepared personal magic for Shizuku, and helped Rei-chan solve problems in her graduation thesis 89 90 93.

Ascension to Main God

Baifeng joined Tatsuya’s team in battle wearing black-and-purple armor. When the Demon Hunters converged on him, he used instantaneous movement and flight to draw them out over the sea, fearing that a confrontation in the city would destroy it and endanger people important to him 97 98.

Although he broke their magic matrix and struck them down with a powerful shockwave, a concealed SSS-rank mage attacked while SS-rank enemies exploited the opening. Gravely wounded, Baifeng was brought before the man who had reincarnated him. He accepted the Main God’s inheritance after learning that he could appoint six Sub-Gods, easing his fear of an endless life alone 99.

Upon returning to the battlefield, Baifeng reduced the remaining Demon Hunters to ashes with a wave of his arm. He was then forcibly transported to the Main God’s residence. His attempts to return to the lower realm failed, although he discovered that he could still communicate with its inhabitants through magic 100.

Appearance

• Original appearance: Snow-white hair, crimson eyes, and a handsome face distinctive enough for him to use as bait in Coffee Country 11.
• Bearing: Described as tall and graceful when reunited with Maya at the Yotsuba residence 80.
• School disguise: Alters both his appearance and aura, but leaves his psions unchanged. Mizuki notices the active magical effect, while Tatsuya uses his psions to confirm his identity 6 28 30.
• Battle attire: Wears black-and-purple armor and a helmet when joining Tatsuya’s team in combat 97.

Personality

Baifeng wants a quiet, comfortable life, but repeatedly sacrifices it to protect others. He resents the Demon Hunters for disrupting even a single day of leisure and dislikes formal gatherings enough to prefer returning to his room to lie down. Nevertheless, he spends years drawing danger away from the Yotsuba and Saegusa families and moves his final mortal battle offshore to spare the city 15 38 80 98.

He is affectionate and teasing with those close to him, expressing care through cooking, reassurance, and personalized magic. His flirtation can become possessive: he dislikes Hattori’s attention toward Mayumi and readily teases Mari during surfing practice. He also recognizes when he has neglected someone, feeling guilty over the limited time he spends alone with Shizuku 23 33 48 54 68.

Despite his confidence, Baifeng is cautious about unknown enemies. He investigates hostile magic’s limitations, withholds trump cards until necessary, and conceals abilities that might expose his location. Once he learns that the Demon Hunters extract Ancient Magic from practitioners’ brains, he resolves to destroy the organization 16 17 19 58.

Baifeng can cast Ancient Magic directly with his own magical power. His repertoire is not restricted to wind, despite opponents mistaking his competition performances for evidence of a specialization 58 79.
