Background
Rujierd comes from the Superd Tribe’s former homeland in the Babino Region. Hundreds of years earlier, Demon God Laplace’s plot brought a curse upon the tribe, causing its members to distrust and slaughter one another. The survivors were shunned, and their homeland became a desolate ruin. Returning there leaves Rujierd visibly distressed 70.
The stigma follows him beyond his homeland: strangers commonly react to his appearance with fear, disgust, or hatred. Rudeus makes clearing the Superd Tribe’s name one of their shared concerns and refuses to let Rujierd spend his life hiding outside cities 64.
Appearance
- Natural appearance: Green hair, a bright red gem in the center of his forehead, and a stern face with sharp eyes. His reserved expression initially makes him seem unapproachable 56.
- Disguise: Rudeus uses Transformation to give him a conspicuous pink bowl cut, also described as a mushroom cut. The change makes city guards and adventurers laugh rather than recognize and fear him 64.
- Lasting effectiveness: The disguise remains in use during later travels; even Roxy initially fails to recognize his race 84 106 128.
- Weapon: Usually carries a long spear, sometimes slung across his back 56 61.
Personality
Rujierd is taciturn, solemn, and strongly protective of children. He considers caring for them natural and insists on escorting Rudeus and Eris despite Rudeus introducing himself as an Emperor Rank magician. To him, their inexperience as travelers is reason enough not to leave them alone on the Demon Continent 56.
His protective instincts can make him stubborn. He confronts a villager who refuses the newcomers shelter and nearly intervenes when Atofe overwhelms Eris. He backs down from the latter only after Rudeus guarantees her safety 62 75.
Although vigilant and experienced, he can be blunt about solving social problems through violence: when entering a city seems difficult, he suggests killing the guards. Nevertheless, he accepts Rudeus’s nonviolent disguise plan and decides that being laughed at is preferable to frightening people 64.
Traveling with Rudeus and Eris gradually draws out his warmer side. He smiles while watching their antics, laughs freely when Rudeus calls him a brother, and later uses that same bond to dismiss the need for thanks 64 70 82.
Abilities & Skills
Spear Combat
Rujierd is a veteran battlefield warrior who treats his spear as his sword. He explains that the distinction matters less to him than honing martial skill and fighting with a blade 56 58.
- Kills a Black Wyvern with a lightning-fast thrust through its throat 59.
- Uses rapid movement, leaps, and sweeping spear-shaft blocks against attacks from several directions 59.
- Pursues and eliminates two accomplices after an attack on Rudeus’s lodging 67.
- Limit: A coordinated Black Wyvern flock gradually forces him onto the defensive through aerial attacks, flame breath, claws, and tail sweeps. Eris ultimately destroys the remaining wyverns 59.
Perception and Demon Eye
Rujierd maintains constant awareness of his surroundings, often guarding the rear of the party 66.
- Detects the approaching Black Wyverns while Rudeus and Eris are distracted 58.
- Recognizes the danger posed by concealed followers and silently confirms his suspicions to Rudeus 66.
- Activates his demon eye before pursuing the attackers outside their lodging 67.
Combat Analysis
- Correctly identifies that Randolph deliberately misleads opponents into misjudging his intentions. Rudeus confirms this as the central principle of the Death God’s Bewitching Sword 116.
- Joins Eris’s monster-based combat training in the Superd Tribe’s former homeland 71.
Travel and Survival
- Hunts demon beasts, keeps overnight watch, and prepares meat for the party 56 57.
- Sorts edible Black Wyvern remains for immediate cooking and dried travel provisions 60.
- Quickly becomes competent at riding a flying sword after Rudeus first lifts him into the air on his spear. His initial flight is enabled by Rudeus’s Object Manipulation, not a demonstrated spell of his own 58 61.
- Provides regional knowledge, including information about Hesro and recognition of the Blue Dragon Mountains 72 113.
Equipment & Items
- Long spear — His principal weapon, used for thrusting and defensive blocks; briefly serves as a flying platform under Rudeus’s magic 56 58 59.
- Flying sword — Used during the party’s early aerial travels and stored by Rudeus when they land near Roxy’s village 61.
- Adventurer card — Obtained when he and Eris register at the Adventurers’ Guild and join the party named Dead End 65.
Relationships
- Rudeus Greyrat — Initially a rescued child whom Rujierd insists on protecting; later a trusted friend he calls his brother. Rudeus promises to defeat Laplace, while Rujierd comes to recognize that Rudeus carries responsibilities far beyond an ordinary child’s 56 70 82 130.
- Eris Boreas Greyrat — Fellow traveler and someone he repeatedly protects. Her initial terror of him gives way to companionship, while her overwhelming combat strength repeatedly astonishes him. He guards her during her critical recovery after the Atofe battle 56 59 66 75 82.
- Paul Greyrat — Receives Paul’s thanks for accompanying Rudeus. Rujierd urges him to help support his son for the sake of future generations, and Paul agrees 130.
- Demon God Laplace — Responsible for the catastrophe that destroyed the Superd Tribe’s homeland. Rujierd welcomes Rudeus’s efforts to build alliances for a future war against him 70 109.
