Background / History

Ju Zi grew up in a small town on the Sun Moon Empire’s border. Her father ran a successful restaurant and considered cooking for his wife and daughter his greatest happiness. He was forcibly conscripted and died fighting the Star Luo Empire. Her mother died from grief three years later, leaving Ju Zi orphaned 144.

Ju Zi blamed White Tiger Duke Dai Hao for starting the war that killed her father. Her ambitions extended beyond killing him: she sought the destruction of the Star Luo Empire and the unification of the continent, believing that absolute order could prevent other families from suffering as hers had 144 145.

During Xu Tianran’s struggle for the throne, Ju Zi took a knife for him. He subsequently gave her access to military power and promised to make her crown princess and eventually empress in exchange for helping him secure the throne. She also advised him to cultivate ties with Jing Hongchen and Mingde Hall 151.

Huo Yuhao’s Previous Life

In Huo Yuhao’s memories, Ju Zi was his first true love and had borne his child, although they had never formally become husband and wife. He returned to the Sun Moon Empire partly to find her, regretting that his earlier unwillingness to compromise had helped separate them 134.

He later recalled that Tang San had threatened Ju Zi to prevent her from revealing Yunhan’s parentage. Huo Yuhao regarded his departure for the Divine Realm without resolving their situation as a failure toward both her and their son 315.

Ju Zi’s relaxed, sleepy manner conceals both dedication and strong convictions. She stays up late conducting Soul Tool experiments, yet reacts immediately to the prospect of food. Xuan Ziwen teases her as a born gourmet, and her stated ideal partner is “the best chef in the world”—a preference closely tied to her memories of her father 135 136 142 144.

Her hatred of war coexists with a willingness to wage it. She initially argues that sacrifices are worthwhile if continental unification can produce lasting peace. Even after falling in love with Huo Yuhao, she refuses to abandon her ambitions or rely entirely on his protection 135 157.

She is affectionate and fiercely protective toward Huo Yuhao. His cooking and willingness to face danger for her restore a sense of security she associates with childhood. When the imperial patrol attempts to arrest him, she immediately offers to retaliate against those responsible 149 150.

Ju Zi is also politically ruthless. She regards Xu Tianran as a means to achieve her goals, accepts Huo Yuhao’s intention to kill him, and later states that she would eventually have acted against him herself 230 310.

Reunion at the Academy

Ju Zi meets the returning Huo Yuhao in Xuan Ziwen’s laboratory without understanding why the new exchange student looks at her so tenderly. Their first major conversation concerns whether unification can end war. His warning about civilian suffering and future regret unsettles her certainty 135 136.

She begins bringing him meals while he cultivates. When his drunken embrace leads Wang Shaojie, Zi Mu, and Ke Ke to confront him, she explains the circumstances and accepts his apology, resolving the immediate misunderstanding 138 139.

Jingyang Mountain Range Expedition

Ju Zi leads Huo Yuhao and Ke Ke on a trip to test Linked Soul Tools. Huo Yuhao’s roast meat recreates the taste of her father’s cooking, prompting her to reveal her family’s history and hatred of Dai Hao. They discover their shared enemy, although she cannot immediately accept his invitation to leave with him 142 144 145.

After Huo Yuhao sends the women away from the wolf pack, Ju Zi searches for him with Ke Ke and fights the remaining Golden Wolves. His protection helps her recognize that she has fallen in love with him 147 148 149.

Military Service and Crown Princess

Following the attempted arrest of Huo Yuhao, Ju Zi openly calls him her man. She nevertheless leaves for military service to pursue revenge, promising to give him an answer when she returns 150 151.

Her unit is surrounded during the Duke of Radiance’s rebellion. Huo Yuhao rescues her, but Zhao Yang’s announcement reveals that she has become crown princess. Ju Zi chooses to remain in the empire, offering to place Huo Yuhao on its throne in the future. He departs while leaving Long Haoxing to protect her 156 157.

She subsequently represents the imperial court at the tournament and leads the Fire Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion in military campaigns 183 233.

Imperial Heir and Xu Tianran’s Death

Xu Tianran plans to obtain an heir by using his younger brother as a donor. Huo Yuhao intervenes, takes Ju Zi into the Undead Demiplane, and later kills the prince and replaces the supervising physician with an undead puppet to conceal the deception 280.

By the time of the assassination operation against Xu Tianran, Ju Zi is empress and has gained greater fame within the empire than the emperor himself. Huo Yuhao kills Xu Tianran and the imperial relatives who threaten her position while she safely gives birth 306 309.

They name their son Huo Yunhan. Ju Zi explains that he must publicly remain an Xu heir until Huo Yuhao can take the throne. During her recovery, she offers Huo Yuhao authority over imperial affairs, placing the empire’s future within their family’s plans 310 315.

Parallel-World Storyline

The narrative also follows Original Huo Yuhao and the Ju Zi of the other spacetime. After learning of his earlier failures toward her and Yunhan, he seeks her out and commits to helping unify the continent. Their confession ends with him leaving a connected Long Haoxing avatar to protect her 229 230.

When Xu Tianran moves to use her to produce an heir, Original Huo Yuhao shelters her in the Temple of the Undead and deceives the imperial surveillance. He later kills Xu Tianran after discovering that Dai Hao’s alliance intends to use Ju Zi’s child as leverage 352 353.

In the later imperial-palace scene, Huo Yuhao introduces Ju Zi as his wife to Electrolux and Rong Nianbing. Their son is recognized as the Child of Light, with Electrolux promising to teach him Light Magic 387.
