Background / History
Tang San originally belonged to the Tang Sect of another world as an outer disciple. When Huo Yuhao confronts him over secretly learning the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, Tang San argues that jumping off a cliff settled his debt to his former sect. He has lived in the Douluo world for more than ten years by this confrontation 119.
In Douluo, he is born to Tang Hao, the Clear Sky Douluo, and Ah Yin, a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor. Huo Yuhao attributes his Twin Martial Souls to this parentage 167.
Tang San studies at Shrek Academy under Yu Xiaogang, joins the first-generation Shrek Seven Devils, and becomes the founder of the Douluo Tang Sect. Ten thousand years later, Tang Sect members still invoke his name when recruiting disciples, and Shrek Academy displays his statue 18 190 274.
Appearance
- Early appearance: Has a delicate face and well-defined fingers; during the Clear Sky Sect confrontation, Huo Yuhao remarks that he formerly resembled Tang Hao 30 287.
- Bloodline awakening: Awakening the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline substantially changes his appearance 167 287.
- Asura manifestation: Scarlet eyes, blood-colored divine power, and an intense killing aura accompany his Asura techniques. He can enlarge his body to an enormous size 207 210 211.
Personality
Tang San combines public restraint with concealed calculation. During the opening hostage crisis, he initially speaks calmly and presents himself as a father trying to reason with his son-in-law. His private thoughts instead turn toward killing Huo Yuhao, exploiting parental pressure, and transferring Huo Yuhao’s providence to Tang Wulin while preserving his own reputation for magnanimity 1 2 3.
He treats Huo Yuhao’s talent and fortune as resources for the Tang family. In private, he boasts that Huo Yuhao has become a loyal “dog” after inheriting a godhood and marrying his daughter. He later openly admits arranging his daughter’s approach and subjecting Huo Yuhao to trials intended to bring him onto his side 1 388.
His attachment to his own family is nevertheless fierce. As a young Soul Master, he refuses to betray Tang Hao even under threat and repeatedly rises despite severe injuries when Xiao Wu is threatened. In the finale, he offers his own life and begs for Xiao Wu’s survival 288 390.
Tang San is especially sensitive to attacks on his father, teacher, and legitimacy as a Tang Sect successor. Insults provoke lethal retaliation, while exposure of his previous-world identity causes panic before he resolves to eliminate Huo Yuhao as a rival claimant 29 30 119.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Original Future: Control of Huo Yuhao
Tang San secretly imprisons Electrolux’s fragment and claims ownership of Huo Yuhao’s fortune through his marriage into the Tang family. When Huo Yuhao takes the newborn Tang Wulin hostage to secure his teacher’s release, Tang San reluctantly agrees to the exchange, then prepares to kill him immediately after recovering his son 1 2.
He subsequently uses Huo Yuhao’s parents as pressure, hoping to obtain the Golden Dragon King’s core and eliminate Huo Yuhao without damaging his own reputation. In their battle, Huo Yuhao needs the combined support of seven Soul Spirits and a rekindled divine soul merely to contend with him. Tang San later offers survival in exchange for the fragments, divine core, and all of Huo Yuhao’s providence 3 4 5.
Earlier Era: Shrek and Spirit Hall
After traveling into Tang San’s youth, Huo Yuhao initially avoids killing him because of the risk to history. Under the name Huo Lai, he redirects Zhao Wuji’s attacks toward Tang San and later defeats him directly. Flender prevents the confrontation from becoming fatal 27 28 30 31.
The hostility continues at the Spirit Hall tournament. After challenging all seven Shrek members, Huo Yuhao exposes Tang San’s previous-world identity and unauthorized study of Tang Sect secrets. Tang San attacks after deciding that killing this apparent rival would secure his claim to the Tang Sect’s succession 117 118 119.
Reborn Era: Qiankun Asking Love Valley
Tang San intervenes during the God of Love crisis, then clashes with Huo Yuhao over his authority and interference in human relationships. Their confrontation escalates into a God King-level battle 207 209 210.
Tang San initially pushes Huo Yuhao into a dangerous position. Nezha’s intervention reverses the battle, forcing Tang San toward an origin-burning Asura strike. The later account states that Huo Yuhao impales him with the Fire-Tipped Spear and destroys his divine consciousness with Electrolux’s help 212 232.
Earlier Era: Clear Sky Sect and Sea God Island
Huo Yuhao confronts Tang San at Clear Sky Castle after advancing to Titled Douluo. Tang Xiao fails to protect him from being forced to kneel. Tang San refuses to surrender Tang Hao’s location, has his own Blue Silver Overlord Spear driven through his chest, and suffers a prolonged beating before Tang Yuehua intervenes 286 287 288.
At Sea God Island, Huo Yuhao again defeats him but confirms that causal interference prevents his death at that point. After Tang San inherits the Asura Godhood, another confrontation ends with him gravely injured and sheltered by the preceding Sea God and Asura God 377 378 380 381.
Final Divine Realm Confrontation
When Huo Yuhao arrives to settle their feud, Tang San abandons his pretense and admits arranging his daughter’s involvement and Huo Yuhao’s trials to secure his allegiance 388.
After losing the confrontation, Tang San attempts to flee with Xiao Wu. Huo Yuhao captures her, forcing him to kneel and plead. The final supplied scene ends with Huo Yuhao demanding that Tang San cripple and surrender both godhoods in exchange for her life 390.
