Background / History

Star Luo Prince and Shrek Senior

Dai Mubai belongs to the Star Luo Imperial Family, whose prospective heirs are raised to compete against one another. He describes himself as not a legitimate son and considers his original chances of inheritance extremely slim. Before joining Shrek, he leaves his homeland; Zhu Zhuqing later condemns him for hiding abroad and pursuing women rather than confronting his circumstances 153 233.

His family has a marriage agreement with Zhu Zhuqing’s Zhu Family. The arrangement reflects a longstanding alliance between their bloodlines: the Zhu Family’s Hell Spirit Cat is compatible with the imperial family’s Evil Eye White Tiger, allowing a Martial Soul Fusion Skill. Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing initially keep their engagement secret from the other Shrek students 106 141 198.

At the Rose Hotel, Dai Mubai clashes with Tang San and Xiao Yan. Although his superior Soul Power lets him overpower several of their attacks, Tang San’s Parasite catches him off guard. Dai Mubai acknowledges defeat, demonstrates White Tiger Vajra Transformation, and invites them to use his name if they encounter trouble at Shrek Academy 33 34 35.

As an established Shrek student, he guides the newcomers through admissions, explains the academy’s strict standards, and briefs them on Zhao Wuji’s abilities before their entrance examination. Flender also entrusts him with explaining academy rules and arranging their fees 38 39 47.

Shrek Team Captain

Grandmaster ranks Dai Mubai first among the Eight Monsters by age. He serves as the team’s captain and a frontline attacker, while Tang San coordinates their movements in battle. Alongside Oscar, he forms the two-person Flying White Tiger combination, using Mushroom Sausages to add flight to his White Tiger combat abilities 75 86 94 95.

His early strength does not guarantee victory against specialized opponents. During training, Xiao Yan’s Netherworld Lock withstands his claws and ranged attack before binding him completely. Against the Imperial Fighting Team, the Shi Brothers’ shells leave his hands numb, and Tang San must pull him away from Yu Tianheng’s counterattack. He subsequently fights Yu Tianheng with Ma Hongjun’s support 78 96 100.

Tang San later gives him the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum to assist his cultivation. By the tournament period, Dai Mubai has reached level forty-three and obtained his fourth Soul Ring 132 221.

Betrayal and the Soul Master Tournament

Dai Mubai and Yu Xiaogang attack Xiao Yan and Zhu Zhuqing outside Heaven Dou City. After Qian Renxue takes the pair away, Dai Mubai considers killing the injured Grandmaster to conceal what happened. Instead, the two agree to portray themselves as victims 140 228 326.

Back at Shrek, Dai Mubai reveals his engagement to Zhu Zhuqing while falsely presenting Xiao Yan as the instigator of the violence. His account divides the remaining students: Ma Hongjun strongly supports him, whereas Ning Rongrong rejects his version and Oscar continues to trust Xiao Yan. Over the following year and a half, Dai Mubai repeatedly justifies his actions until he comes to believe his own accusations 141 160 228.

The tournament match against Star Luo Royal Academy gives him an opportunity to challenge Dai Weisi and improve his standing in the succession contest. Shrek’s coordinated assault overwhelms the opposing team. Dai Mubai crushes Dai Weisi’s shoulders and kicks him off the stage, leaving him crippled; he privately wishes he could have killed him outright 233 234 235.

Before the final confrontation with Spirit Hall Academy, Dai Mubai publicly accuses Xiao Yan of betraying his master. Xiao Yan responds by exposing Yu Xiaogang’s experiments on him during his six-month unconsciousness 239.

In their tournament duel, Xiao Yan deliberately meets Dai Mubai in close combat, breaks his White Tiger Protection Barrier, and counters his attacks with alternating heat and cold. Dai Mubai exhausts more than half his Soul Power and unleashes White Tiger Meteor Shower, only for Xiao Yan to emerge unharmed and reveal his second Martial Soul. Dai Mubai is ultimately crippled and taken away by Star Luo personnel 249 250 251 257.

Forbidden Restoration

Unable to accept his condition, Dai Mubai agrees to a mysterious man’s offer of restoration through Soul Beast body parts. The proposed grafts come from a ten-thousand-year Shadow Devil Lizard. He accepts despite knowing that forcibly fusing with a Soul Beast’s body is taboo and could make him a target of Soul Masters across the continent 320.

The procedure leaves his right arm and leg beastlike and grants him strength approaching a late-stage Soul Emperor’s. He attacks Xiao Yan and Zhu Zhuqing again, openly accepting the prospect of becoming an Evil Soul Master for revenge. They defeat him, but a man in black intervenes and escapes with him 325 326.

Dai Mubai subsequently recognizes the altered Yu Xiaogang, who brings him to Spirit Hall’s laboratory. Bibi Dong promises him the strength to avenge himself, and he swears to serve her. After three months of experimentation, all four limbs have mutated, scales cover much of his body, and his hands and feet have become claws. Still conscious, he tests his new strength and again vows to pursue Xiao Yan 328 329.

Appearance

• Original appearance: Approximately 1.8 meters tall, with broad shoulders, a handsome face, and straight golden hair reaching his waist 33.
• Distinguishing eyes: Deep-blue eyes with twin pupils and a cold, sharp gaze—the most conspicuous feature of his original appearance 33.
• White Tiger Possession: His frame enlarges, his hands become tiger paws with claws, and his hair turns predominantly white with black strands forming the character “王” on his head 33.
• Vajra Transformation: Becomes still larger and more muscular; black stripes appear across exposed skin 35 249.
• Initial grafted form: His right arm and leg mutate, with a savage claw and crocodilian-looking scales covering part of his body 325.
• Later experimental form: Pitch-black scales cover his limbs, with finer scale patterns across his torso and face. Both hands and feet become beast claws, and his pupils turn vertical 329.

Personality

Dai Mubai initially respects demonstrated strength and can admit defeat without resentment. His acceptance of the Rose Hotel result earns Xiao Yan and Tang San’s favorable impression. He also shows generosity toward companions, paying everyone’s expenses during their two-day rest after the Star Dou Great Forest expedition 35 58 69.

His pride is accompanied by an overbearing temper. Zhu Zhuqing’s rejection frustrates him, and he reacts angrily when she refuses to acknowledge him. When Ning Rongrong mocks him, he threatens her and blasts her aside with Soul Power. His frequent outings with Ma Hongjun and pursuit of other women further damage his relationship with Zhu Zhuqing 46 52 56 69 75.

After the betrayal, he increasingly treats his royal birth as grounds for superiority over Xiao Yan. He avoids responsibility for attacking his former companions, recasts them as traitors, and eventually internalizes his own lies. His desire for revenge later outweighs both his fear of forbidden experimentation and his attachment to his human body 228 320 326 329.

His third Soul Skill, supplied by his purple thousand-year Soul Ring 35.
