Background / History
Previous Life and Douluo Origins
Tang San has lived two lives. In his earlier life in Central Shu, he secretly entered the Tang Sect’s Scripture Depository and stole the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. The sect’s teachings remain central to his conduct, particularly concealment, avoiding unnecessary involvement, and adapting to unfamiliar surroundings 5 14 15.
On Douluo Continent, he is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin, a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast who took human form. Her Blue Silver Emperor lineage accounts for his hybrid nature, which cultivators in the other world recognize as a half-demon physique 21 29.
He becomes Yu Xiaogang’s disciple and a core member of the Shrek Seven Devils. Before his disappearance, he and Xiao Wu had left with Tang Hao, whose protection reassured their companions at Shrek 1 5.
Disappearance and the Ruined Capital
Using the alias Tang Yin, Tang San escapes the Hell Road alongside Hu Liena and obtains Divine Slaughter’s Domain. He then vanishes before she can invite him to return to Spirit Hall. An enormous heavenly screen begins broadcasting his experiences across Douluo Continent, alongside a separate screen following Qian Renxue 1.
Tang San arrives in a ruined capital devastated by demonic cultivators. Although he cannot understand the local language directly, an unexplained force conveys its meaning to him. He conceals himself behind a broken wall rather than reveal his presence 2.
From hiding, he watches a demonic cultivator seize and kill an infant. He initially feels rage but suppresses the urge to intervene, following the Tang Sect’s warning against meddling outside one’s mission. The cultivator subsequently mistakes his lingering Divine Slaughter aura for evidence that he is a fellow demonic cultivator and leaves him unharmed 3.
Soul-Devouring Zhenren’s Camp
Tang San follows the demonic cultivators to a river valley, where Soul-Devouring Zhenren detects and effortlessly captures him. Recognizing that resistance is futile, Tang San flatters the Golden Core cultivator and asks for instruction in cultivation 5.
The request nearly gets him killed: Soul-Devouring Zhenren despises unaffiliated cultivators who ask for techniques without offering anything in return. The cultivator from the ruined capital intervenes, recalling Tang San’s supposed generosity in leaving him the infant. Tang San survives, outwardly accepts the warning, and privately vows to repay the humiliation 9.
After three days with the group, Tang San learns that Soul-Devouring Zhenren has repeatedly massacred cities to collect souls. Rather than reject the method, he concludes that he would make the same choice to become stronger. His attention turns to obtaining a cultivation manual 14.
Murder, Theft, and Capture
Tang San targets the late-Qi-Refining cultivator who previously saved him. After slipping away at night and deceiving a Foundation Establishment sentry, he kills his benefactor with a poison-coated Yama’s Invitation. He steals the Soul Refining Art and three low-grade spirit stones, conceals the body, erases his tracks, and flees before the camp can discover the death 15.
Primordial Sect disciples intercept him soon afterward. Finding the demonic manual among his belongings, they take him prisoner. Su Mingyue’s technique reveals that he has taken many lives, strengthening her suspicion that he is a demonic cultivator 20.
Tang San denies belonging to the group and conceals his association with Soul-Devouring Zhenren. During questioning, a disciple identifies his existing Mysterious Heaven Skill as a low-grade mortal martial art rather than a demonic cultivation method. Su Mingyue then asks to examine it 20.
Baihuaxiang’s Intervention
Baihuaxiang interrupts the interrogation after recognizing Tang San’s half-demon physique. She demands custody of him, but Su Mingyue refuses to release someone with so many deaths on his hands 21.
During the ensuing confrontation, Ye Lingtian traps Baihuaxiang in a formation. Tang San, whom she carries with her, resents Ye Lingtian for obstructing his escape. When Ye Lingtian scatters a sword-Qi attack into threads, several strike Tang San despite Baihuaxiang’s protection, leaving him badly wounded and castrated. Baihuaxiang knocks him unconscious 24 25.
After Daoist Qingxu destroys Baihuaxiang’s physical body, her surviving Nascent Soul escapes underground with Tang San. On awakening, Tang San discovers the irreversible injury and vows revenge against Ye Lingtian. Baihuaxiang silences him and examines the physique she intends to use 28 29.
Possession Attempt and Desolate Qi
Baihuaxiang enters Tang San’s body to possess it. His Blue Silver Emperor Martial Soul shatters, and a flowering branch resembling her original form grows from his hand. The branches spread until they enclose him in a wooden flower cocoon, after which his heavenly screen temporarily goes dark 30.
When the broadcast resumes, black patterns cover the cocoon and sinister Qi leaks from it. Within his sea of consciousness, Baihuaxiang has cornered his soul and is close to devouring it. Tang San is too weak to resist her Nascent Soul’s divine sense 35.
Desolate Qi then spreads through the sea of consciousness and attacks Baihuaxiang instead. She recognizes a Desolate Seed, but hesitates too long to escape. The Qi drags her Nascent Soul below and begins consuming it, leaving Tang San’s much weaker soul aside. His recovery and the possession attempt’s final outcome are not shown 35.
Appearance
- Ice-blue hair: Described as dazzling when Soul-Devouring Zhenren first examines him; his appearance has changed enough that only faint traces of his former self remain 1 5.
- Disheveled condition: Appears filthy and unkempt while imprisoned by the Primordial Sect 20.
- Severe injuries: Ye Lingtian’s sword threads leave his clothes shredded, his body covered in wounds, and his genital injury permanent 25 29.
- Flower cocoon: During the possession attempt, flowering branches enclose his entire body; the initially pink petals later develop black patterns 30 35.
Personality
Tang San is cautious, calculating, and capable of suppressing anger when openly resisting would endanger him. He hides on entering an unfamiliar world, flatters stronger opponents, and maintains a submissive manner while privately holding grudges 2 5 9 20.
His restraint does not mean he forgives humiliation. After Soul-Devouring Zhenren forces him to his knees, he resolves to repay the insult a hundredfold. He similarly blames Ye Lingtian for blocking his escape and later for his castration 9 24 29.
Although he initially reacts angrily to the infant’s murder, his later thoughts explicitly accept the principle that the strong may seize resources from the weak. His desire for cultivation methods overrides gratitude toward the man who saved him, whom he murders for a manual. He is then dissatisfied by the small amount of loot 3 14 15.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Souls
- Blue Silver Emperor: Provides keen senses that help him detect approaching footsteps. He also attempts to use it to suppress his presence near Soul-Devouring Zhenren 2 5.
- Evolved appearance: Manifests as crystalline blue grass with golden markings 30.
- Destruction: Shatters during Baihuaxiang’s possession attempt; no restoration is documented 30.

Divine Slaughter’s Domain
A domain obtained by surviving the Hell Road 1.
- Its lingering killing aura causes a demonic cultivator to mistake him for an ally, sparing him an immediate confrontation 3.
- Tang San initially lacks a method to conceal that aura. Soul-Devouring Zhenren identifies this as evidence that he is not a trained orthodox demonic cultivator 5.
- It does not prevent Soul-Devouring Zhenren from overpowering him effortlessly 5 9.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
Tang San’s established cultivation method and the foundation of his strength on Douluo Continent 20.
- Associated with the Tang Sect inheritance he obtained in his previous life 14 20.
- Classified by a Primordial Sect disciple as a mortal martial art, not a demonic cultivation technique 20.
- Its existence raises doubts on Douluo Continent about the source of his childhood knowledge and abilities 20.
Hidden Weapons, Poison, and Concealment
- Poisoned attacks: Uses Yama’s Invitation to kill a late-Qi-Refining cultivator before the victim can raise an alarm 15.

- Stealth: Moves silently, attacks from a blind spot, catches the falling corpse, and removes evidence before fleeing 15.
- Deception: Uses flattery, excuses, and selective disclosure to survive encounters with stronger cultivators 5 15 20.
Half-Demon Physique and Spiritual Roots
- Metal–wood spiritual roots: Baihuaxiang considers his aptitude good, though not the pure wood constitution she would prefer 29.
- Hybrid potential: According to Baihuaxiang’s knowledge of ancient texts, a half-demon combines human comprehension with demonic bloodline talents and cultivates faster than a demon 29.
- Undeveloped condition: His actual cultivation remains low and his magic power impure when she examines him 29.
Desolate Qi — Uncontrolled Phenomenon
- Spreads through his sea of consciousness while Baihuaxiang attempts to possess him 35.
- Overwhelms and begins consuming her Nascent Soul despite her vastly greater cultivation 35.
- Its origin and Tang San’s ability to control it are not established 35.
