Only heroes who had no wishes before their deaths qualified to become Rulers.
"No way. I heard you were quite an obsessive person in life."
Iskandar was somewhat unconvinced.
"I suppose it was a kind of enlightenment. I suddenly let go of everything before I died."
Qin Shi Huang said calmly, "Death snuffs out a life like a lamp, and everything becomes fleeting smoke. Looking back, you realize you really did quite a few ridiculous things."
Iskandar asked, "Could you tell me about them?"
"For instance, pursuing immortality while building myself a mausoleum."
Qin Shi Huang said unconcernedly, "I clearly didn't believe in immortality myself, yet I stubbornly searched for it. After all that trouble, I didn't even manage to live a long life."
Iskandar laughed. "Hahaha, humans really are contradictory creatures."
"Hmph, immortality is nothing but the gods making fools of humanity."
Gilgamesh snorted just then, seemingly reminded of something that angered him.
Iskandar asked curiously, "Oh, Gilgamesh, it sounds like you have some experience pursuing immortality too."
Feng Xi said calmly, "In his old age, Gilgamesh once obtained an elixir of immortality from the underworld, but after he brought it back, a snake ruined it before he could drink it."
Gilgamesh snapped, "Who asked you to run your mouth, mongrel!"
Iskandar said, "Gilgamesh, your luck really is awful."
"There's no such thing as that kind of coincidence."
Gilgamesh glanced at Ishtar and said coldly, "This king's luck has always been excellent. Besides, how could a snake suddenly appear in the king's bedchamber? Surely this king needn't spell out the foul play involved."
Chapter 51: A Wish That Could Never Come True
"What are you looking at me for? I had nothing to do with that."
Ishtar rolled her eyes. Gilgamesh really did try to pin every dirty accusation on her.
"Hmph!"
Gilgamesh snorted and said no more.
"Ahem..."
Iskandar continued questioning Qin Shi Huang. "Qin Shi Huang, did you have any wishes in life besides immortality?"
Qin Shi Huang replied, "One more: to have my Great Qin endure for ten thousand years."
Iskandar asked, "Don't you want to fulfill it now?"
Qin Shi Huang replied, "There's no need. I think the country is quite good as it is now."
"Is that so..."
Iskandar scratched his head. "Well, now, which of us won this debate?"
He hadn't forgotten that they were holding a debate.
Since Qin Shi Huang had stated that he had no wish he wanted fulfilled, he was effectively declaring that he wouldn't participate in this question.
As for Gilgamesh, his refusal to state his wish also amounted to forfeiting this question.
That meant this debate had become a contest between King Arthur and the King of Conquerors.
"You won."
Feng Xi spoke up just then.
"Hm? Why?"
Everyone's eyes turned to Feng Xi.
"Have you all forgotten the debate topic we settled on earlier?"
Feng Xi reminded them, "We were to judge who was better suited to possess the Holy Grail based on your respective wishes."
"Are you going to say there's something wrong with my wish too?"
Artoria frowned.
"I won't judge your wish. There's no clear right or wrong in something like this."
Feng Xi explained, "But Ahoge King, you need to understand what consequences your wish would bring."
Artoria asked, "Consequences? What consequences?"
Feng Xi replied, "Weren't those consequences already pointed out in an earlier quiz?"
"When?"
Artoria still didn't quite understand.
"A Singularity."
Seeing this, Feng Xi could only spell it out.
Indeed, even if the Holy Grail really could fulfill their king's wish, it wouldn't have any effect on the present.
The result would merely be a new Singularity.
If that Singularity would lead to the destruction of the Human Order, it would end up on Chaldea's elimination list.
"What!"
Artoria was somewhat bewildered. She didn't understand the concept of Singularities.
"I see. It would indeed create a Singularity."
Having grasped it, Kayneth explained, "History is already in the past and cannot be changed. Forcing a change would be like growing a new shoot from a tree trunk called 'proper history.' It wouldn't affect the present."
"Exactly."
Feng Xi continued, "Compared that way, isn't Iskandar's wish safer?"
"After all, no one knows what effects a Singularity might have."
"..."
Artoria was left speechless, unsure how to refute him.
Even Lancelot didn't know how to comfort her.
After all, judging by the consequences, Iskandar's wish really was safer.
Iskandar said, "Hahaha, who would have thought I'd win in the end?"
Waver said, "It feels like we barely got a word in."
El-Melloi II said, "We only need to offer the king advice at the appropriate moments."
Kayneth said, "Still, boy, I didn't expect you to know so much about Singularities."
Feng Xi replied, "I was just a little interested and casually explored a few theories."
[Based on the discussion's outcome, the King of Conquerors' team wins this debate.] [The King of Conquerors receives 10 Saint Quartz. Each other team member receives 5 Saint Quartz.]
Iskandar laughed. "Caster's Master, it looks like you'll have to yield first place to me today."
Feng Xi replied, "There are still two questions left. Don't celebrate too soon."
Rin Tohsaka asked, "The first question is over, so are we going to be sent back?"
[Once this quiz ends, the system will return all group members to their original locations.] [The first question has ended. The second question will now begin.] [This is a multiple-choice question. Please watch the following video carefully, then select an answer based on the question.] ["Do we have to go stay at the Zenjou house?"] [At the Tohsaka Family residence at dusk, Aoi Tohsaka looked worried. Beside her, Rin Tohsaka hung her head angrily.] [Tokiomi Tohsaka said solemnly, "Once the War of the Holy Grail begins, it will no longer be safe here."] [Rin Tohsaka said quietly, "I want to help Father win the War of the Holy Grail."] ["Rin, don't make things difficult for your father."] [Aoi Tohsaka spoke up to persuade her.] [Rin Tohsaka looked up at Tokiomi Tohsaka and asked, "Are we in the way?"] [Tokiomi Tohsaka explained, "That's not it. This time, we must take even greater precautions than usual and ensure your safety. That's why it would be best for you to leave Fuyuki."]
Is it a story about me this time?
Tokiomi Tohsaka thought to himself.
"..."
Looking at the Tohsaka Family in the footage, Sakura Tohsaka couldn't help lowering her head.
She wasn't there. In the video, she was already no longer a member of the Tohsaka Family.
Seeing this, Rin Tohsaka immediately took her hand.
