What Did Gu Xiao Actually Care About?
"What?"
Feng Ji looked at Gu Xiao in disbelief. He could not understand Gu Xiao's logic. Why would he willingly let a "danger" in?
"A-Xiao, you really went too far this time," Fu Huai said evenly. "You knew he harbored ill intentions, yet you still let him get close to you. Do you realize that if he'd had a weapon on him, something might have happened to you just now?"
Gu Xiao narrowed his eyes slightly, listening to their accusations, and chuckled.
"It was only a possibility. There's no need to entertain hypotheticals about things that never happened.
"A weapon? If he really could bring a weapon in here, then every security guard at the school should resign in disgrace."
Feng Ji still disagreed. "A-Xiao, just what game are you playing? Since you already knew who He Shuyu was, you should have discussed it with us."
Gu Xiao said, "I'm not playing any game. I didn't expect He Shuyu to do nothing at all. How disappointing."
Gu Xiao's expression remained utterly calm, as though He Shuyu's brazen confession had never happened.
Fu Huai's expression soured again. "A-Xiao, could you rein in your spiritual power?"
He did not know whether A-Xiao was doing it on purpose. He Shuyu had already been taken away, yet his spiritual power remained active.
A-Xiao's spiritual power would agitate theirs.
"Sorry." Gu Xiao did not look the least bit apologetic. "I didn't expect you two to still be so weak."
That single remark silenced them both.
In truth, Fu Huai also knew that even if He Shuyu really had managed to bring a weapon in, he would not have had a chance to hurt Gu Xiao.
Against He Shuyu, Gu Xiao's spiritual power was an overwhelmingly crushing force.
This little disturbance could not affect tonight's banquet at all.
Although everyone knew who the star of the evening was, no one dared approach Gu Xiao apart from those two and the outrageously bold He Shuyu.
Not even to offer a toast.
Earlier, Gu Xiao had only been willing to drink with them out of a perverse sense of amusement, wanting to put Lu Keyan through the wringer.
Without someone to drink on his behalf, no one could make Gu Xiao willingly drink a glass of wine except Gu Xiao himself.
Not even Fu Huai or Feng Ji.
"I really think something's been off with A-Chuan lately," Feng Ji muttered. "He spent all that time chasing after He Shuyu, and never mind that he still hasn't won him over, he even let the guy appear in front of A-Xiao. Now he's taken a fancy to that bastard son of the Lu family, and he isn't even attending A-Xiao's birthday banquet-"
As he spoke, Feng Ji watched Gu Xiao's expression.
Only to discover that Gu Xiao was not really listening at all.
Gu Xiao did not care.
He did not care about Ji Chuan in the slightest.
He did not care whether he was here,
nor did he care whether something had happened to Ji Chuan.
What, exactly, did Gu Xiao care about?
Feng Ji's expression grew a little gloomier. They had been friends for over a decade. Did A-Xiao care so little about Ji Chuan?
"A-Ji." There was a hint of warning in Fu Huai's eyes. "Don't talk nonsense."
Feng Ji gave a faint smile, quickly casting that displeasure to the back of his mind. "I'm just standing up for A-Xiao."
Feng Ji knew perfectly well whom he was really standing up for.
Fu Huai smiled faintly. "A-Chuan really did go too far. He didn't even give A-Xiao a present."
Feng Ji perked up. "Oh, right, A-Xiao. Are you really not going to accept my gift?"
That did draw a little of Gu Xiao's attention to Feng Ji. "When did I say that?"
"Just now." Feng Ji clicked his tongue. "You turned me down outright."
Gu Xiao raised an eyebrow, recalling something. "You really intend to give me an estate?"
"Yes." Feng Ji was perfectly frank. "The garden is full of irises, too. They'll be blooming by your twentieth birthday."
Fu Huai offered a calm assessment. "How old-fashioned."
Unconcerned by his assessment, Feng Ji said earnestly, "A-Xiao, if you don't accept it now, I'll offer it again when you turn twenty. After all, you're already the owner of that estate."
Compared with Feng Ji's gift, He Shuyu's little offering really did pale into insignificance.
Gu Xiao said indifferently, "Then I'll accept it."
His tone was very cool, as though he were accepting not an estate worth one or two billion, but a watch worth a few million.
Fu Huai was rather helpless. "A-Ji, pulling a move like that makes my gift look cheap."
Feng Ji shrugged innocently. "That just means you didn't put your heart into it."
Inside that estate was another gift he had prepared for Gu Xiao.
Feng Ji was in a fairly good mood. Since A-Xiao had accepted it, then surely, one day-
One day, A-Xiao would deliver himself right to his door!
"By the way, A-Huai." Gu Xiao took out the gray gemstone. "Look into where this thing came from for me."
At the sight of the gray gemstone, Fu Huai's pupils contracted slightly. How had this thing ended up in A-Xiao's hands?
