Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Modified beginner equipment and mutation 1 Begins with Hayabusa Gauntlets that critically strike with every punch, a faster Tornadic Aura, Wings of the Crow, and Heart of Ice. “Modified” denotes enhancement to the limit.
Blood Sword and Knife Dance 5 Receives bleeding-focused equipment and an additional mutation. Discovers that he has neither the game’s two-skill limit nor its cooldown restrictions, although techniques must be executed manually.
Durin-enhanced immortality and Evil Dragon Transformation 15 16 Fuses with Durin’s blood, strengthening his already resilient Beheaded soul. One Crimson Agate initially allows him to manifest dragon wings.
Expanded transformation, poison, and elemental control 17 Two more Crimson Agates extend transformation to his hands and chest and grant poison. Absorbing a Crystalline Bloom and Basalt Pillar reveals his ability to control elemental power.
Nearly complete upper-body dragon transformation 18 Devouring additional poisonous blood expands Evil Dragon Transformation across almost his entire upper body.
Legendary Scroll of Power 29 Gains knowledge associated with Brutality, Tactics, and Survival, including combat methods and defensive techniques. His initial attempts at creating mechanisms produce only caltrops.
Hydro Vision host 40 Possesses a Hydro Vision wielder and tests the Vision through the new body.
Improved weapon technique 44 Further scroll absorption lets him wield Acceptance with control rather than brute force alone. Dual-wielding two Acceptances remains awkward.
Void Heart and Hollow Knight abilities 49 Obtains the Void Heart, Pure Nail, Dream Nail, Styx Lantern, Focus, Vengeful Spirit, Mothwing Cloak, Mantis Claw, and Desolate Dive.
King’s body and independent upward flight 52 Possesses the preserved King’s body and benefits from its muscle memory. Also learns to fly upward with Wings of the Crow without relying on dragon wings.
Abyss-powered growth 73 Discovers that the Void Heart allows him to absorb Abyssal power, increasingly replacing melee weapons with spells.
Void Heart mastery 94 95 After nearly ten years of study in the Abyss, understands energy-based evolution, his inability to die there, and the ability to realize imagined effects through Void Power.
Second-generation Void armor 145 Develops armor around Void-powered energy weapons, moving beyond a conventional knight-style design.
Absorbed divine authorities 160 Extracts authorities from captive gods and absorbs three additional authorities after a week. Judges their improvement to his own power as limited.
Timeline travel 173 Acquires the Time Keeper’s ability to travel between timelines while testing a red Waypoint.
Third-generation Void armor 182 Uses Void Power to prevent rejection and transforms the completed red armor into black Void armor.
Golden Fruit and Helheim Forest 205 Absorbs both into the Void, then constructs a self-contained world with a Void Sea, Mechanical City, and restored island kingdom.
Universe-devouring black hole 208 Expands a black hole to consume a universe and uses the Golden Fruit to restore his body. His perception cannot keep pace with the black hole’s reach.
Stand: The World 216 218 Manifests a Stand whose ability can negate all things, including parameters. Initially understands only part of its scope.
Renewed Dead Cells acquisitions 229 230 Learns Heart of Ice during a new island run, absorbs more attribute scrolls, and takes a Velocity-like skill from a monster with his flying head.
Infinity Gauntlet and six Infinity Stones 246 Takes the complete set from zombie Thanos before devouring a zombie universe.
Megaverse consumption and creation 264 Harvests multiverses, Phoenix Force, and cosmic entities; The World negates the Living Tribunal. Consumes the megaverse’s energy and begins creating one of his own.

Background / History

Transmigration and the Chasm

Jiang Xiaofeng was a human from Blue Star who had spent much of his previous life playing Dead Cells. He awakens as the Beheaded in the Chasm, retaining extensive game knowledge but lacking a human mouth. Unlike the game’s Beheaded, he can communicate; he initially speculates that this may be a system benefit 1 12 18.

His arrival is eventually explained as a soul exchange with the former King, not ordinary possession. The King’s soul occupies Jiang Xiaofeng’s original human body on Earth, while Jiang Xiaofeng continues in the Beheaded’s existence. His original soul’s mental strength later becomes a limitation despite his enormous energy reserves 208 245.

First Visit to Liyue

After leaving the underground mines through the Treasure Hoarders’ smuggling route, Jiang Xiaofeng heads toward Liyue Harbor. He initially hopes for a peaceful life, though he recognizes that his inhuman appearance makes an ordinary livelihood unlikely. Along the way, he experiments with his equipment, collects cells, and repeatedly shatters a respawning Geo Archon Oculus 4 5 6 27.

His visit deteriorates after an unpleasant encounter at Yanshang Teahouse and questioning by the Millelith. Chongyun and Xingqiu regard him as a possible evil spirit, and the confrontation becomes a fight involving Xiangling and Keqing. Jiang Xiaofeng treats their attempts to detain him as unjustified persecution and retains a lasting grudge 7 8 9 94.

Dragonspine, Mondstadt, and Return to the Chasm

On Dragonspine, Jiang Xiaofeng absorbs Durin-related material, develops dragon transformation and poison, and farms nearly a thousand Cryo Hypostases until Ley Line energy dwindles. He also becomes involved with Stormterror, whose friendliness initially frustrates his intention to possess the dragon 15 16 17 18.

Repeated disruptions to his plans in Liyue and Mondstadt deepen his resentment. He fights Aether while trying to strengthen the Cursed Sword through absorbed Abyssal power. On later visits to Liyue, he clashes with Baizhu, meets Ningguang, and explores the Chasm using possessed machines and replacement bodies 24 26 34 35 40 43.

The King’s Body and the Island’s Survivors

Jiang Xiaofeng travels to the world of Dead Cells while possessing the Cursed Blade. With his current host body decaying, he relies on Hypostasis powers against the Hand of the King before reaching and possessing the preserved King’s body 51 52.

He refuses the Panacea at this stage because he believes it would restore the King’s memories alongside granting immortality. Instead, he recruits the Collector and other island inhabitants, obtains the bank chest, and prepares to transport people and resources away from the kingdom. He also encounters a separate Beheaded who first fights him and later accompanies him 53 54 56 57 61.

His relationship with the Queen is complicated by the body he occupies: she recognizes him as her king and husband, while Jiang Xiaofeng distinguishes himself from the former ruler. His initial wish to rescue her is motivated more by dissatisfaction with her game ending than by deep affection, although her vulnerability gradually softens him 58 60.

Abyssal Seclusion and Conquest

Before entering seclusion, Jiang Xiaofeng asks Childe and Zhongli to protect his family. His agreement with Zhongli prohibits him from attacking Liyue’s people. He then enters the Abyss, where the Void Heart channels absorbed power into his body through an embedded Philosopher’s Stone 94.

Nearly ten years of study reveal the Void Heart’s broader potential. Jiang Xiaofeng decides to spread Void Power throughout Teyvat and recruit followers. He later destroys the Dead Cells island after taking away selected inhabitants, creates copied monster soldiers, and forces the Knights of Favonius to swear loyalty 95 103 112.

He publicly appears as Mondstadt’s king and orders the Church of Favonius renamed the Void Church. Later, he conquers Sumeru, directs Spider Woman to recruit followers and connect it to Mondstadt by portals, and asks Nahida to join the Void to administer the Akasha. He subsequently destroys the corrupted Akasha and its terminals 158 199 270.

Other Worlds and Cosmic Expansion

Jiang Xiaofeng’s campaigns expand beyond Teyvat. In Hallownest, he devours the Radiance, destroys Absolute Radiance and Godseeker, and directs Eldest to absorb Godseeker’s dream. In Douluo Continent, he breaks through the world’s suppression, destroys its planet and God Realm, rewinds time to preserve the planet, and later unleashes accumulated Void Power across its surface 141 173 174.

After obtaining the Golden Fruit and Helheim Forest, he constructs a world within the Void. His later travels include Earth, another Dead Cells run, Marvel universes, and a world involving Stands. His consumption eventually reaches megaverse scale, after which he begins creating a megaverse himself 205 224 229 246 264.

In a later encounter, he enters a room where a girl has been writing about him on her phone. She recognizes him as her character and attempts to write a blessing into their meeting; Jiang Xiaofeng responds that death could also count as a king’s blessing 291.

Appearance

  • Beheaded form: His head resembles blackish-purple flames surrounding a purple vortex, with a golden four-pointed star above it. He considers this appearance handsome despite others finding it monstrous 4.
  • No visible mouth: He can speak without moving a mouth; Katarina hears his voice directly in her mind 1 13.
  • Possessed bodies: His physical appearance varies with his host, including a Fatui debt collector, a Hydro Vision wielder, and the King’s body 13 40 52.
  • Dragon transformation: Red dragon wings grow from transformed ribs; later transformations cover his hands, chest, and most of his upper body 16 17 18.
  • Royal presentation: The King’s helmet ornament obscures his eyes without impairing his sight. He later appears before Mondstadt in royal armor on a throne 53 158.
  • Void armor: His third-generation armor is recolored black through Void Power 182.

Personality

Jiang Xiaofeng begins with a recognizable human conscience. He spares unprovoking Treasure Hoarders because he was once human and finds it difficult to harm creatures that show him kindness. He nevertheless has little general aversion to killing, and he recognizes that the Beheaded’s nature has affected his mind 1 18.

He is irreverent, provocative, and easily irritated by condescension or interference. His humor includes teasing La Signora about her former lover, taunting opponents during fights, and refusing to treat personal dignity as a serious obstacle. He also admits that he can detach the emotions associated with troubling memories and examine those experiences as though reading a story 7 8 27 34.

His desire for security increasingly becomes a desire for overwhelming power. Before seclusion, he explicitly reasons that sufficient strength would let him crush the Seven rather than maneuver around them. Later behavior includes forced loyalty, mental domination, mass killing, and the destruction or consumption of inhabited worlds 94 102 112 173 174 264.

His affection is selective rather than universal. He arranges protection for his household, seeks to restore the Queen’s former appearance, and helps Shenhe with her fate. At the same time, he remains vindictive toward former opponents and treats Ganyu’s fate as compensation for having lost a life to her 64 93 94 113.

Despite his later relationships, he had never dated in his previous life. Paimon’s teasing exposes the contrast between his confidence in battle and his earlier reluctance to interact romantically with women 72.

Abilities & Skills

Beheaded Physiology and Possession

Jiang Xiaofeng’s mobile head allows him to abandon hosts and control other bodies or objects 40 43 51.

  • Possesses human bodies, Ruin machines, and the Cursed Blade itself 13 40 43 51.
  • Uses a moss-like form when leaving a machine and transferring back to a humanoid body 43.
  • Retains a highly resilient soul, strengthened further through Durin’s blood 15.
  • Ordinary host bodies can still decay; early immortality does not preserve every body he uses 39 51 52.
  • Gains the King’s bodily muscle memory after possessing the preserved royal body 52.

Cells, Scrolls, and Combat Learning

His system initially supplies equipment, mutations, and skills through cell collection. Scrolls transmit large amounts of practical knowledge directly into him 5 29.

  • Brutality: Improves fighting methods and combat technique 29.
  • Tactics: Provides mechanisms and indirect approaches, though he initially struggles to use it beyond caltrops 29.
  • Survival: Supplies defensive and life-saving knowledge, including multidirectional parrying 29.
  • Later scrolls noticeably improve his handling of Acceptance 44.
  • The absence of game-style skill slots and cooldowns does not remove the need for bodily control and learned execution 5.

Dead Cells Techniques

His early fighting style combines enhanced equipment, mobility, and independently acting skills 5 8.

  • Tornadic Aura: Surrounds him with rapidly rotating blades capable of shredding incoming attacks. Detached blades lose their sharp tearing effect 1 8.
  • Wings of the Crow: Supports aerial movement; he eventually learns upward flight without dragon wings 8 52.
  • Knife Dance: Releases returning throwing knives, useful for ranged attacks and surprise strikes during other actions 5.
  • Ground Shatter: Produces forceful downward impacts; he uses raised rocks to intercept Ruin Guard missiles 12.
  • Wave of Denial: Repels opponents, including the Wolf King 47.
  • Velocity, War Javelin, and Cocoon: Provide rapid repositioning, javelin-linked movement, and defense against barrages 151 152.

Evil Dragon Transformation

Absorbing material derived from Durin grants Jiang Xiaofeng partial dragon transformation and poison 16 17.

  • Initially manifests wings, then extends transformation to additional body regions as he absorbs more blood-related material 16 17 18.
  • Combines dragon wings with Wings of the Crow for movement 40.
  • A complete dragon transformation is initially only his speculation, not an established result 16.

Elemental and Hypostasis Powers

Jiang Xiaofeng gains elemental control by absorbing boss materials and uses Hypostasis shells as weapons and protection 17 51 52.

  • Fights with Anemo and Electro Hypostasis powers while his host body deteriorates 51.
  • Shapes Geo power into protective shells, a giant hammer, Stone Steles, and rotating shock-wave formations 52 57.
  • Uses spells including Frost Blast, Lightning Bolt, and Flamethrower 30 39.
  • Can devour Cryo used against him 27.

Void Heart and Void Power

The Void Heart becomes the foundation of his later growth, allowing him to evolve through absorbed energy and manifest imagined abilities 73 95.

  • Absorbing different energy types can evolve his ability to use them 95.
  • He is unable to die within the Abyss, even by his own efforts 95.
  • Imagined effects must be actively cast; making an entire space behave as though his words are law requires first eroding it with Void Power 95.
  • Creates copied monsters and transforms other beings into Void creatures 103 160.
  • Can plant a mental seal through direct invasion of a target’s brain 102.
  • Grants Void Power to followers through Void Eyes. For the Knights of Favonius, accepting that power binds their souls to him after death 112.
  • Uses Void Power to cut away part of Ganyu’s auspicious fate and resolve Shenhe’s missing fate 113.

Time, Space, and World Creation

His later abilities extend to time manipulation, interworld travel, and constructed worlds 120 173 205.

  • Opens Starry Sky Gates for travel and uses Waypoints to move between locations and worlds 51 94 224.
  • Stops time around selected targets, including Yae Miko and the Doctor 120 199.
  • Travels between timelines using the Time Keeper’s ability 173.
  • Rewinds Lumine’s time after accidentally killing her and fast-forwards Teyvat to dawn 270.
  • Builds a world containing a Void Sea, Mechanical City, island kingdom, and a black tree named the Void’s Irminsul, then compresses it into a bubble 205.
  • His universe-consuming black hole initially exceeds the reach of his perception; his original human soul’s mental strength is the bottleneck 208.

Stand: The World

The World’s stated ability is negation of all things, extending even to parameters. Jiang Xiaofeng initially knows only that it can negate certain facts 218.

  • Stand parameters: Destructive power, range, speed, stamina, precision, and development potential are all rated A 218.
  • Exchanges high-speed barrages with Star Platinum before accelerating and overpowering it 220.
  • Negates the Living Tribunal’s existence with one punch 264.
  • Also acts independently on practical orders, such as transporting the Doctor to Japan 270.

Alternate Versions

Earth’s Jiang Xiaofeng

The person living in Jiang Xiaofeng’s original human body is the former King, not the main transmigrated protagonist. In the Earth side story, he becomes a mercenary and arranges an identity for Aether after Aether struggles to find work without documentation 245 294.

Parallel-World Jiang Xiaofeng

A separate side story follows a version who begins as a moss-like creature in the Chasm and takes over the Beheaded’s body. Unlike the main version’s early experience, he cannot speak and repeatedly loses control to the body’s killing instincts 296.

He seeks Morax’s help, but the body kills Keqing and nearby people before he can intervene. The episode ends with Ganyu and the Millelith attacking while his body automatically equips Acceptance and the Assault Shield 296.
