Background / History

Shisui became a celebrated Uchiha genius whose battlefield achievements earned him the name “Body Flicker Shisui.” He served in both Anbu and Root and became a mentor as well as a close friend to Itachi 9 19 22.

After Danzo ambushed him and stole his right eye, Shisui escaped with the Body Flicker Technique. Rather than reveal the attack and risk provoking war between the Uchiha and Konoha, he wrote a suicide note, arranged matters to suggest that he had destroyed his eyes, and gave his remaining eye to Itachi beside the Naka River. He then jumped from the cliff in despair 5.

Haruma pulled him from the river and secretly cared for him in the clan’s recuperation area for a year. Believing Haruma’s claim that he could see the future, Shisui regarded him as a new hope for the clan. During their year together, he taught Haruma every ninjutsu he knew and shared his secrets 5.

Personality

Shisui is strongly motivated by peace and the protection of others. His initial response to Danzo’s betrayal was to conceal it rather than risk a clan–village war. Even after losing confidence in Konoha’s leadership, he continued to oppose war and the unnecessary deaths of innocent shinobi 5 15 83.

His trust in Haruma makes him susceptible to manipulation. Haruma persuaded him to sign a five-billion-ryo IOU by calling it a classified mission document, then reframed robberies as a humanitarian duty. Shisui initially found those assignments humiliating, but eventually defended them as “saving the Shinobi World” 5 22 24 50.

He remains curious and frequently asks Haruma or Fugaku to explain their strategies. His confusion is a recurring source of comedy, but he also recognizes his shortcomings and actively seeks improvement. Feeling overshadowed by Haruma, he decided to pursue intensive training with Fugaku rather than remain satisfied with his existing strength 19 161 166 224.

Return to Uchiha Affairs

Haruma revealed Shisui’s survival to Fugaku, allowing the clan leader to meet him secretly. After learning Haruma’s account of Danzo’s experiments and the Third Hokage’s likely involvement, Shisui abandoned his hope that simply reporting Danzo would resolve the crisis and agreed to follow Haruma’s arrangements 9 10 15 18.

Shisui reunited with a stunned Itachi and helped persuade him to accept Haruma’s three-month plan to ease the clan’s conflict with Konoha. During subsequent operations, he impersonated Fugaku to mislead the Anbu watching the compound 24 29 33.

“Saving the Shinobi World”

Haruma sent Shisui to extract money from wealthy merchants under Madara’s name, then pushed him to expand beyond the Land of Fire. The assignment embarrassed Shisui, who initially preferred the prospect of open combat to facing merchants who thought him a lunatic 22 24 32.

His impersonation eventually drew Obito and Zetsu’s attention. After escaping them, Shisui reported the encounter and urged Haruma to warn Itachi. By the next group meeting, he was openly defending the robberies as a mission to save the shinobi world 49 50.

Danzo’s Defeat and the Move to Kirigakure

Shisui joined the confrontation with Danzo, repeatedly countering his attacks before a binding seal left him vulnerable. Itachi prevented the killing blow. Shisui subsequently regained both original eyes and became the masked bodyguard of Haruma, who was operating under Danzo’s identity 56 57 62 64.

Accompanying Haruma into Kirigakure as “Madara,” Shisui fought local defenders and witnessed Haruma’s seizure of control. When Konoha became unsafe, he helped Fugaku prepare the Uchiha evacuation and presented forged Land of Water documents to reassure the clan that they would not be hunted as missing-nin 71 72 75 83 84.

Eternal Mangekyō and Akatsuki Operations

Shisui later appeared beside Fugaku as one of Mei Terumi’s guards at the joint Chunin Exams. Haruma’s subsequent gift of matching Mangekyō enabled both men to evolve their eyes 120 133 145.

With his increased strength, Shisui accompanied Sasuke’s group to Tanzaku Town and fought Sasori. He then rewrote Kisame’s allegiance with Kotoamatsukami and impersonated Itachi during Haruma’s staged Akatsuki attack on Kumogakure forces 145 150 156 157.

Later Konoha and Alliance Operations

Shisui assisted in the battles involving Obito and Madara, repeatedly returning to combat at Haruma’s direction. When Tsunade’s surveillance threatened to keep them in Konoha, he summoned Susanoo against the guards blocking their exit; Tsunade ultimately allowed them to leave 199 201 202 206.

He continued accompanying Haruma during the Land of Iron proceedings. His signal recalled Haruma to their quarters, where Itachi and Mei explained how the coming alliance preparations would benefit Haruma’s supply business 224 229.
